911 dispatchers tell us a car has slammed into a tattoo shop along MacCorkle Avenue in Chesapeake.

The accident happened around 8:00 Monday morning.

Kanawha County Sheriff's Deputies tell us an elderly woman was trying to turn around in the parking lot, when she lost control and went straight through the building.

The business is called Lynn's Unique Ink.

No one was inside at the time of the accident, but the driver was taken to the hospital.

-snorts- You people (meaning the ones criticizing the woman who crashed) are hilarious. That woman has as much right as everyone else does to drive on the roads. If you read carefully, she lost control of her car. Not her fault. I'm just hoping the poor lady will be all right, as, you people who are offering no sympathy, don't seem to be hoping. There ARE old people that perfectly capable of taking care of, and driving themselves around. Idiots.

When the car crashed my friend was getting a tattoo. He now walks funny since the tattoo was "down there." I think this is sad.

I think every year after you get your lisence there should be some sort of a physical test. No matter what age or gender. Like physical as in like a eye test or a physical from a doctor or such. I mean how do you lose control in a parking lot turning around. She obviously had some problems unles there was ice or such around. Now this business has to suffer.

Posted by: Cheryl on Feb 5, 2008 at 08:10 AM
I personally know this woman and she is a very good driver. There are other elderly people in the neighborhood that depends on her to take them do the doctor and other places they need to go and she does it without hesitation because she has a good heart. So you people that are ditching older drivers need to get the facts straight before opening your mouth. Just for your information the gas pedal got stuck and she did a very good job of keeping control of the car because there were several children waiting on the bus that could have been severally hurt or even killed. As for the children that were laughing at her at the bus stop I just wonder what your parents are teaching you at home that you would laugh at another persons misfortune. I am very proud to say that she is my mother. I LOVE YOU MOM

So is the rumor true? I hear she was hunting for a drive thru tattoo parlor? Good thing she dont live in Nitro, they have a drive thru convenience store, haha.

I agree with Margie (the one that actually has a brain). Don't jump to conclusions because someone is elderly. Their age doesn't always mean they are bad drivers. There are other things to consider. And, I have had way more trouble with these young drivers (and middle aged ones as well) then I have ever had from any elderly driver.

IF U CANT DRIVE, PLEASE.....STAY OFF THE ROAD!!!

Posted by: brandon on Feb 4, 2008 at 11:01 PM
man old people cant drive that good. last summer my mustang got hit by this old weezer. i was like oh no man, i wanted to knock him out, but i was like, dude, hes a old man. why they even get to drive?

Posted by: minnie on Feb 4, 2008 at 10:35 PM
drema your very mean. i am 80 yearsold and i drive every day to take my husband to the hospital. ive never had a ticket, or accident, can you say the same miss priss? and please sto tailgating me or one day im gonna pull you over and smack your face. stick that in your tailpipe drema.

Posted by: Anonymous on Feb 4, 2008 at 10:27 PM
Dreama my thoughts exactly. Old people are causing just as many accidents as young. I have been cut off by them so many times and they got 20 miles slower. Thats one law I would vote on if I could.

Posted by: DREMA on Feb 4, 2008 at 10:17 PM
THERE SHOULD BE A AGE LIMIT ON DRIVERS JUST LIKE PEOPLE ARE TOO YOUNG, SOME PEOPLE ARE TOO OLD. IM SO SICK OF GETTING BEHIND THESE ELDERLY PEOPLE AND THEY GO LIKE 20 IN A 55. I MEAN COME ON!!WHY ISNT SOMETHING BEING DONE! ? ITS REALLY MAKING ME MAD...

Posted by: margie on Feb 4, 2008 at 10:12 PM
my goodness, we need to get these old folks off the roads and in a nursing home!! the partys over people, deal with it. i mean i dont wanna sound mean, but oldsters have no place out driving!!!

Posted by: ton on Feb 4, 2008 at 10:09 PM
OMG folks, Go to Google Earth! Chesapeake is right beside Marmet, on MacCorkle Avenue. Yes, you leave Charleston, eastbound on MacCorkle, you hit Marmet, then Chesapeake, then Cheylan.

Posted by: Anonymous on Feb 4, 2008 at 10:06 PM
MacCorkle Avenue runs through Chesapeake, WV, also...

Posted by: Bridget on Feb 4, 2008 at 09:52 PM
There is a Chesapeake,WV located in Kanawha County along MacCorkle Avenue. MapQuest it. MacCorkle Avenue runs several miles through Charleston, Marmet, Chesapeake, and Cheylan at least. Also, the woman in the accident is a very capable woman, and if you knew her you'd hardly consider her "elderly." So...don't hate!Stop thinking that all "old" people should have their license revoked.

Is there a CHESAPEAKE WV?

Posted by: Chad on Feb 4, 2008 at 08:00 PM
Hope the driver wasn't hurt. WSAZ has lately had a problem of not reporting the whole story. I remember the commercial with Tim Irr when he said he'd tell us the 'Who, What, Where, How, and Why' of every news story. Looks like they forgot to do that with this story.

Posted by: To Margaret: on Feb 4, 2008 at 08:00 PM
I think that you listed 4 reasons, not 3! But that's alright, we will keep count for ya!

Posted by: Hey Anonymous on Feb 4, 2008 at 07:57 PM
MacCorkle Avenue is in CHARLESTON not CHESAPEAKE! I says "Kanawha County .... well that is Charleston, Chesapeake is Lawrence County! Just thought you might want to get it right.

When an elderly person wrecks, people always want to blame it on their age. There are times when the weather and other circumstances play a role in causing the accident. So unless you were at the scene don't assume someone needs to loose their license. It would be safe for you to assume someone needs to loose their license when they have caused an accident because of DUI or drugs. Grow up young man. By your comment I assume your still immature.

This lady is a better driver than most on the road. Here are three of many reasons reasons..she is very cautious, she doesn't get road rage like most of us, she doesn't multi task while driving, she doesn't talk on a cell phone while driving. That puts her in a much safer category than most of us. She needs to be watching out for us on the road. By the way, she is my mom. We would not let her drive if we thought she would hurt her or anyone else, we love her too much for that. So, give her a break, and know the facts before jumping to conclusions.

Posted by: Margie on Feb 4, 2008 at 03:59 PM
Maybe you should gets facts before you jump to conclusions. There was a mechanical problem with car. Also, are you telling me only elderly people cause crashes. Should everyone that crashes be retested or have their license pulled.

Posted by: Anonymous on Feb 4, 2008 at 02:30 PM
It shouldn't say Charleston its CHESAPEAKE and it was a accident everyone has them give the woman a break ive known her for years she is a sweet woman.

Posted by: OMG on Feb 4, 2008 at 01:59 PM
Just how old was she? Everyone should be retested when they start receiving SS benefits. I know I will get grief over saying that, so I will also say cell phones, and text messaging shouldn't be allowed while operating a motor vehicle either.

Posted by: dave on Feb 4, 2008 at 12:30 PM
Yet another example of why elderly people shouldn't drive...........

Posted by: Anonymous on Feb 4, 2008 at 12:27 PM
Shouldn't that say Charleston?

Posted by: Young Man on Feb 4, 2008 at 09:04 AM
Time to pull Maw Maw's license, isnt it? An 84 year old man rear ended me this past summer. I think there should be testing to ensure that the elderly are capable of driving at that age.
