PART 1-THE ADDICTION

Slurred speech, drooling, loss of muscle control--those are the effects of drug abuse. We have a reality check from a man who fell deep into the drug trap and barely made it back to tell about it.

He goes by the name Ricky, he's thirty years old, married and has three children. Through a local public official, Ricky came to us. He said if people really knew the devastating effects of drugs, they wouldn't touch them. He didn't want to show his face, only share his story about why it's not worth dying for drugs. Here’s his story in an interview with Newschannel Three’s Carrie Cline:

How did you get started with drugs?
“You kind of feel disaccepted by the other kids. I didn't really feel like I was part of them. You're out partying and there's cocaine there and you try it, then you're buying coke. You try a little bit of it... But kids don't realize it's a 16-year cycle and once you get started, you fall deeper into it,” said Ricky.

And for you the deeper was cocaine and heroin?
“Oh yeah, there's more heroin pushed around these kids than is unbelievable. I know what real heroin is. When you get high, you just want to get higher and before you know it, you could be on your high for a long ride. Physically, how have they affected me? You can look at me and tell there's problems. You ain't going to hurt my feelings. I know I have problems. I've lost my motor skills. I lost my speech. Alot of times, I can't help it where I'll just drool on myself where I guess my muscles or nerves won't do right. Like me shaking now. I can't enjoy life,” said Ricky.

You said your memory is shot. I asked you how old your baby son is and what did you tell me?
“I couldn't remember,” said Ricky.
And he was born only two months ago. How does that make you feel?
“How does that make you feel? Do you really want to know the truth? That you're not much of a father,” said Ricky.

How old are your other children?
“I've got a 5-year-old and an 8-year-old and I do know their ages.
I would do anything in the world... It's a very hard thing to look at them and know that I can't go outside and pass a football with my son who asks me from time to time... Or ride a bicycle. I ain't even got the motor skills to ride a damn bicycle. That ain't no good.
I've ruined myself over trying to prove what? That I've done it? Then, I went back,” said Ricky.

So, you're doing drugs now? I'm doing drugs now. What are you doing?
“Smoke pot mostly now. I take my Xanax. I still do pain pills here and there,” said Ricky.

What do you want kids to know who are dabbling in this stuff now?
“If you ain't got mind, you ain't got nothing... And if you don't want a mind, the best thing to do is keep doing drugs. It will definitely take you mind away. That hollering, "I'll just do a little here and I'll control it." No, before you know it, it controls you,” says Ricky.

PART 2-THE BUSINESS

Ricky says:
“I was kind of a fan of Scarface movies and John Gotti. I thought if these guys can make money from it.... You make money and tell yourself for a long time, just keep making money, you won't do it yourself.

Money makes a difference. You go to school with kids who dress nice everyday and that's an influential thing. I wanted the gold necklaces, I wanted to look good, Ralph Lauren, I wanted to dress nice.

When you see 50 Cent drive a Phantom Jaguar and he says he's been shot 9 or10 times. That turns kids on, it's an influence, but an influence in a wrong way. I mean, you're turning kids on to street life. Anybody can live the street life. I've lived it. I've made the money off it.

How much money did you make?
How much money was I making? You wouldn't believe me if I told you... There's been well over a couple million go through my hands at the age of 30. My wife has seen more coke through here than what they see at one of those big drug busts. That ain't counting those big pill bottles plum full of those 80s.

So you were making hundreds of thousands of dollars?
Oh yeah! This house ain't paid off and I could have paid it off more times than I can count on both my hands.

What did you do with the money"
What did I do with the money? About 80% of its been run up my veins.

do you still sell dope?
Yep.

So, knowing what drugs do to people, you still don't have any problems selling them.
Would I sell heroin or cocaine, something I know can kill people? No, not any more.

But, you feel it's okay to sell dope.
No, it ain't okay to sell dope. No.

Why do you do it?
Why do I do it? It's a large income...

So, you still can't get away from the money.
The money's hard. American folk will buy drugs like crazy! It's too easy to make money off it. I've got a few miners, thieves, car salesmen, lawyers. You name em, they do it.

How big of a problem is drugs in Huntington?
Like I said, if you write down what you want and you've got the money. I can get you anything you want, no problem. I make probably make about $2000 a month on selling weed. That's enough to survive on. Plus, I get about $2000/month on my social security. So, I don' t live bad.

But, do you realize, you may be opening the gateway to someone else who fallen in that pit yet and now you're providing that gateway of pot?
Boy, you're hard. You're good at your job, I'll tell you that. ;-)

Would I ever go back to that life?
If I had it to do all over again. I guarantee ya I wouldn't go back to that life! That's a promise!

So, the money's not worth it.
No! You can have your fancy rides. You can take all that fancy shit because I have no use for it. What good is it if you can't use it? That vehicle out there don't mean nothing to me. My building full of tools and 4-wheelers. That means nothing. I'm more concerned about am I going to live today or am I going to die tomorrow. My body is screwed up. I don't know what's going on with my own self. I can't even tell what's going on with my mind, much less worrying about things out in the world.
You can live good for a long time, but eventually it's going to catch up to you. The options are out there and there are pushers out there that will give you those options. But, the better person is going to walk away from it and go on instead of suffering because that's all it's going to lead to is a suffering agonizing pain.”

PART 3-THE WIFE

Tell me about Ricky when you first met him. What was he like?
Gosh, he was totally different. He was a lot more open, a lot more fun, a lot more full of life. He enjoyed life. He enjoyed himself, he enjoyed the people he was around. Now, he won't hardly talk about anything much less enjoy anything.

We heard Ricky's story. Tell me your story. Those times he was going through those dark moments out of his mind. What were you doing?
Taking care of the kids. Trying to keep him out of trouble, trying to bring him back to reality, trying to talk him out of what he was doing--period. More often than not, he said, " I know what I'm doing. I can quit when I want to". He would get angry about it.

Were you ever involved with the activity?
Very seldom. Very seldom. But, I did, so I'm not innocent. But, nothing like what he went through.

How do you feel about it now that he's still in it?
I don't approve of it. I don't like it. Most of the time when people call, I tell them, "he's not here, he's out of town, I don't know where he is, I don't know IF he's coming back"!

So, you lie to try and keep him away?
Yeah, (laughing) I do. He's knows that too.

Why do you stay with him?
Because I love him and because through sickness and in health. To me, that is a sickness. Addiction is a sickness. It's an illness, a disease just like anything else. He's a person with an addictive personality.

For me, it's really weird that your 8-year-old son is sitting here listening to this, but this is his life...
No matter how hard you try to keep it from it, before you know it, he's right there listening to everything.

What do you tell him. How do you explain this?
You don't. There's nothing you can say or do to make it okay or make him understand. You tell him, "you don't want to be like this". That's the only thing you can tell him. His dad will tell him, "you don't want to be like me".

So, you're honest...
You have to be. You can't hide it.

Do you worry that someday he's going to go out and make a deal and not come back?
Oh yeah, constantly. Every time he leaves, I'm worried. I always tell him to be careful. The longer he's gone, the more worried I get.

You're living off drug money.
Well, he gives me his check, he lives off his. I take his social security check, I pay the bills, but from that he lives off his.

But, he's buying the family things with drug money?
Yeah, I don't particularly care for it....

But, this is your life...
Yeah, this is my life.

Did you ever think you'd be living a life like this?
Absolutely not (laughing). Not at all.

If he quit tomorrow and you had to live off just the social security check, would you be alright with that?
Oh yeah. That wouldn't bother me.

What would you say to kids watching this who are dabbling in drugs or are thinking about getting involved?
You might think it's glamorous, but it's not. There's nothing glamorous about it. You see the nice rides, sure. You see the nice things they wear. But, behind the scenes, what are they? Most of the time, they're miserable. Like he said, it's like hell on earth sometimes. He's miserable inside of himself. He has to sit back and watch his kids, he can't interact... So, I mean... I wouldn't even try it.

And again I ask you why you stay...
(chuckle) Because I do love him, I really do.

PART 4-STUDENTS REACT TO RICKY'S MESSAGE

Drugs don't pay. That's been the message from a man named Ricky, who wanted to share his story of pain, suffering and loss.
Tonight, we take Ricky's message to some of the youngest battling drugs.

Ricky's intentions in approaching us to do this interview were never to glorify his life of abuse and dealing. He wants to save lives even though his own is pretty much ruined. So, we took his story to the heart of teenagers already battling similar demons hoping they don't have to worry about dying for drugs.

“My body, I guess where I had taken so much dope, it caused me to go into a seizure. I lost my speech. A lot of times, I can't help it where I'll just drool on myself. Hell, I stayed up one time for six days at a time smoking it and cooking it. I've lived the life and it ain't no life. There is no life to it,” said Ricky.

It's a harsh reality check from one drug addict to teenagers fighting the addiction themselves.

“I started using drugs, trying them when I was like 10,” said Amber, an 18-year-old recovering drug addict.

“I once done drugs and turned away from them after I lost my brother to drugs,” said Katrina, a 16-year-old recovering drug addict.

“I used to try different drugs and I don't anymore,” said Josh, a 17-year-old recovering drug addict.

An 18 year old, 16-year-old, 17-year-old--recovering addicts. Then twin brothers age 15 who aren't abusing, but are considered at-risk because of their neighborhood. They're all part of a support group that focuses on positive alternatives.

“We hang out and talk and go out and do fun, positive activities,” said Josh.

For Ricky, it's too late to enjoy life--drugs have done their damage. But, he wanted to share his story with the hopes of changing lives like these for the better.

“If you ain't got a mind, you ain't got nothing. And if you don't want a mind, the best thing to do is keep doing drugs. It will definitely take your mind away,” said Ricky.

“It opened my eyes. There are a lot of situations I've seen personally with my friends who are drug dealers. It's right here in Huntington, said Amber.

“It shows the consequences and makes you not want to do it, so yes, it's inspirational,” said Josh.

“I think it's sad to live that life, said Amber.

But, is all of this enough keep these kids on the right track?

“I'm not trying to be people on the riverfront... I want to drive by in my own car and drive to my house,” said Amber

“You gotta show the ugliness in the situation to show how bad it is,” said Josh.

Those teens are part of a substance abuse support group for young people with high risk factors for drug use through Prestera.

Kim, you say that you do have kids and there is no worry about their future because they are raised in a good home with good morals. What about your mom, she was raised in a good home with good morals huh? But she still ended up addicted to pain pills for 12 years. You're right you should EDUCATE yourself, because drug use does not discriminate. I pray that you realize no matter where you grow up at there is always a chance for your children to get hooked on drugs. And whos to say it won't be Ricky's kids selling it to your kids.

Posted by: kim on Feb 20, 2008 at 06:58 PM
NO,I do NOT keep people like this going! Actually, I have put a few of them AWAY! I do NOT go along with people screwing the system,I have turned a few of those people in too! I do have children and I do NOT have to worry about their future because my kids are being raised in a good home with good morals! I DO have a heart though, unlike many of you and the man admits his problem, and if you ALL care enough to come on here and trash him, then care enough to say a prayer! God hears ALL,EVEN YOURS!! Drug dealers do not get them hooked, they do that themselves or doctors do, but they do keep them supplied, that is one reason why I helped to put a few away! After the doctors got my mother hooked by prescribing her pain meds for 12 years, then dropping her like nothing, no slowing down or anything, it was people like them that kept her supplied! So, before you go off running your mouth when you REALLY don't know what you are talking about, let me give you one word that may help you... EDUCATE!!

I tried to post a comment the other day, I guess I was to blunt, so I'll try to be nicer. I am upset that this man get 2000 dollars a month plus he said he sells 2000 dollars more in drugs a month just to make it. My husband work 40 hours a week minimum wage which is around 900 dollars a month, we have a child and still we make it fine, WITHOUT selling drugs or doing other illegel things. His wife needs to get a back bone, take the kids, and leave this lowlife. SORRY if that's to blunt for you people!!!

Posted by: unknown on Feb 20, 2008 at 12:56 PM
you know kim its people like you that make ricky keep going.maybe one day when one of your kids(if you have any)will get hooked on drugs and you will open your eyes to the truth.he is a crowerd he rips the system off and he gets by with it.yea go ahead ricky sell your drugs to all the young kids and get them hooked.also teach them how to work the system so they can get everything you get.so kim is that what you want everyone to say?i stand behind you selling and doing drugs in front of your kids.teach them well so they can carry on your job.there you go we do care.

Posted by: kim on Feb 20, 2008 at 10:01 AM
People, give it a break! It was not said for what reason this man receives SS. Only God himself can judge us, so every single one of you who want to critisize and downgrade this very brave man, will be judge and punished for your actions and words! This man told his story in hopes of saving some from screwing up like he had! Regardless of his decisions and current actions we should applaud him for being brave enough to come out and tell his story, especially when he probably did not expect to be ATTACKED by the public like you all are doing!! Instead of attacking him and his family, let us all PRAY for them, for his recovery, wife, kids' future and pray that these kids get their father back, the father they deserve and the father I'm sure he wants to be.Maybe he feels it is too late or after hearing all the critisizim,he has decided to just give up and feels no matter what he does he will always be like this and looked down on! If this was you,how would you feel after hearing this? STOP!

Posted by: kim on Feb 20, 2008 at 09:19 AM
I thank you Ricky for shaing your story, let's pray it changes some lives. I will be praying for you and your family. Your children really don't deserve this life. I am NOT coming down on you, but seeing you this way may keep them from doing drugs, but then again seeing the money you make may make them want to do it! Then where will they be, possibly in prison! Do you want this for them, I can tell you really don't! Why not quit the dealing! I am a recovering addict too! I never got bad on the coke or ever use a needle, my big thing was OC's. I am happy and proud to say that I have been clean for 2 years, 2 months, and 11 days now! My kids were getting older and could understand things, so I stopped because I did not want them to know ANYTHING about it or take a chance on maybe losing them! The past 2 years has not been no picnic though, I have had a couple breakdowns, especially when my mother past away. I wanted to die myself! It is not easy, but with your wife's support, you'll be ok

hm so addiction is a disease? so you choose when you get a disease? i dont think so...nobody tells these people to go do drugs!!!my goodness, stop saying its a disease. cancer is a disease. ever hear anyone say they wanna try cancer?? think about it!!!

Posted by: Nicotine on Feb 19, 2008 at 07:28 PM
Donna, only after your lungs turn black and start shriveling will you get your check. It's called cancer.

Posted by: Donna on Feb 19, 2008 at 01:59 PM
if people want to get off of drugs then they have to want to do it for themselves. and as far as the government not caring and wanting you to die is a horrible thing to say. if that were the case they wouldn't be handing out the social security to addicts. i get tired of footing the bill for people that don't want want to clean up. some might say that pot is the gateway drug but i disagree, i think that alcohol is the gateway drug because its the easiest to get your hands on. i'm just curious if all of these addictions are a disease does that mean that smoking cigerettes is a disease. can i get a disability check for smoking cigerettes? and for all of you that know this guy, do you like paying his way? i don't and if i knew the guy, i would be on the phone right now reporting this because he is creating the next generation of drug dealers and/or addicts. his kids.god bless these kids and keep them safe from themselves.

DRUGS IS EVERY PLACE AND IT GETS WORSE AND WORSE , WHAT GETS ME IS THE PEOPLE ON DRUGS GRIPE ABOUT ALL SORT OF THINGS BUT THEY ACTUALLY DONT SEE WHAT THEY ARE DOING. HEY THEY ARE PEOPLE BEING KILLED OVER DRUGS SO THINK ABOUT IT . IF YOU STOP DOING DRUGS JUST MAYBE YOU WILL SAVE YOUR LIFE OR SOMEONE ELSES. WHEN SOMEONE GETS KILLED OVER A DRUG DONT SAME THAT IS A SHAME OR THAT SHOULDN'T HAPPEN IF YOU DO DRUGS YOURSELF BECAUSE YOU ACTUALLY DONT HAVE THE RIGHT TO TALK. DRUGS KILL . YOU EVEN PUT YOUR FAMILY IN DANGER AND WORRY THEM BECAUSE THEY ARE AFRAID THAT DRUGS IS WHATS GOING TO TAKE YOUR LIFE.

Posted by: anon on Feb 17, 2008 at 02:17 PM
Stacy, I'm glad you're recovering and have stayed sober and probation has worked for you, but what was said is that PROHIBITION doesn't work. Prohibition, or the "war on drugs", does not work and actually helps the drug market.

Posted by: katy on Feb 17, 2008 at 12:12 PM
it takes more than christ to help someone to over come their addiction..I do not know why people have to be soo harsh..these people need help..no they shouldnt get all that ssi..but some would help..because drugs/alchol can over come your thought process, driving ability and over all life..help these people..jail does nothing for some then again it may care the crap out of another..instead of wasting our tax dollars on stupid things help the homeless and addicts...take the huntington user fee and put it to good use...

Posted by: Stacy on Feb 16, 2008 at 09:41 AM
Yes addiction is a disease!!! And MOST addicts don't start doing drugs hoping they will end up like Ricky. Once you start and are addicted you can't control it. It's a downward spiral that spins completely out of control before you even realize it. I am a recovering addict. I used cocaine and pills for 3 years. March 30th will mark my 3 years clean and sober. It can be done and I am not a lost cause to this society. I finished college, work a full time job, and take care of my 2 yr old daughter. AND for the one who says probation doesn't work...think again. I was granted three years probation and haven't slipped up once...not even a speeding ticket. It does work, for the people that do want to change and make a better life. I commend Ricky for sharing his story, he opened his life up to be critizied by all of you. I hope for his sake and the sake of his wife and children his life style continues to change though!

paula, please keep your aids to youself. You've mentioned it in several posts. We do not want to hear it. Go watch tv with butch or something and complain about stuff.

Posted by: Garth on Feb 12, 2008 at 10:24 PM
butch, go back to watching the news with Paula. Don't know the guy, don't care if he gets arrested. If he keeps up what he's doing he eventually will. I don't think it the responsibility of wsaz to give up the guy's name. The U.S. media has a history of not giving up their sources for the news. It is part of freedom. When some members of the media have been threatened with jail to give up a source they have chosen jail. The freedom of the media to report unbiased (not interviewing someone then calling the cops)is in jeopardy by those crying for the news to give up news sources. Many of the most important news events would never have came to light if people were afraid of talking with the media so that they could report the stories. Giving this sleazeball's name up would set a bad precedent for the media in general. If you want the guy arrested, circulate flyers with his picture on it. I'm sure someone will talk for the right price.

Posted by: time to stop on Feb 12, 2008 at 10:41 AM
you know it time to stop giving this guy the thrill of everyone making the talk of the day.so just stop and god will punish him and his time.

i just think it is pathetic that my child who has a chromosome deletion and has delays cannot get her SSI cause her daddy actually works and makes what they consider *too much* to get it, which would help alot with all the trips we make for medical reasons with her... but yet they give this man a check because of stupid choices he made.. i think that is pathetic!!!

Posted by: I think... on Feb 12, 2008 at 01:20 AM
$2000/month in aid is probably less than the cost of imprisionment. Prohibition is expensive and doesn't work. Look it up.

Posted by: ANONYMOUS or UNKNOWN on Feb 12, 2008 at 12:35 AM
I don't think REPORTERS should get in trouble for running stories like this and people remaining anonymous,IF the PARTIES being INTERVIEWED wants it that way! Sometimes it's the only way to get a story out!We TRUST the NEWS STATIONS to keep it that way!IT'S how we get INFORMATION and KNOW whats going on!Just like the COMMENT SECTION. I really don't believe they are for what this RICKY GUY is doing! If some one else other than WSAZ turns him in GREAT! I'm sure the POLICE know who this CREEP is anyway! If you know something bad is going on that involves a CRIME OF (ANY KIND) SUCH AS A VOILENT CRIME,DRUG CRIME,or Organized CRIME and you want to give NAMES to let the PUBLIC know,REMAIN ANONYMOUS,it is a GOOD way for YOU & FREINDS to get it out.You Can Remain Anonymous when you call 911 or POLICE. KEEP CALLING UNTIL SOMETHING IS DONE.NO RESULTS!CALL A NEWS REPORTER and tell them,at least some one knows it was reported! It could Solve a CRIME or SAVE a LIFE! EVEN YOURS,A FAMILY or FRIENDS!

Posted by: butch on Feb 11, 2008 at 11:33 PM
well garth sounds like you dont want him arrested?why not you know him.the only thing i do is watch the news.if he goes to jail you cant get your goods?

I think the reporters should get in trouble with the laws too since they are aiding and abetting. When life gives you HIV make lemonaids.

to garth wsaz dont have to give it up there are people in wayne who know rick maybe they will spil the beans and we can get rid of it....and all the rest

Posted by: someone close on Feb 11, 2008 at 03:17 PM
Ricky didn't try to hard to hide who he is and I promise you the law definately knows him. He's had multiple runins with them. He doesn't have friends in high places he's like most dealers- smarter then the cops. WSAZ didn't even try to hide his wifes idenity they even allowed a post that names her.

Posted by: Garth on Feb 11, 2008 at 12:01 PM
paula, if wsaz gives up information on a person that has contacted the station in order to inform the public of a subject such as drug dealing then anonymous news contributors will not trust the news station. The story is obviously news worthy since you seem to be obsessing over it. The point of wsaz running the story is for people to get an inside perspective on the drug problem. Giving up your sources for news is against all that the media stands for. Like katy said, the point of the story is to learn and if one person reads this story or watches the segments and turns away from drugs I think wsaz will feel they have provided a good public service. The potential for good from the story is more important than putting one bad person away.

Posted by: Terri on Feb 11, 2008 at 11:13 AM
2000 dollars a month in social security! Is this because the drugs have enabled him to work? Whose fault is this? I think this 2000 dollars could be used more wisely in West Virginia. Afterall, he is still making the same amount in drug sales. I find it hard to believe that he is trying to help people, yet still selling drugs. This is very hipocritical, but maybe some young people will be driven away from this lifestyle.

Posted by: paula on Feb 10, 2008 at 10:37 PM

paula, the guy doesn't show his face, they don't list his address, or give his name. Sounds more like he is anonymous rather than having "friends in high places." His friends may know this is him, but aren't telling. His friends may be high, but they don't seem to be in "high places."

Addiction IS a disease. Maybe the first time a choice, maybe not. Haven't we all made some kinds of bad choices. Maybe surgery or an accident. Some are genetically prone to addiction. But the bottom line is what we are doing is NOT working. If we continue to only punish we will have to build MANY more jails. We have no drug treatment programs in our jails. Abstinence is not recovery. Released and back out to the same surroundings with the same mind set. Who do you think pays for this? They have to want help--but help in WV is not always available. We have few out patient options, a total of 210 beds for long term residential treatment. Do we to continue to waste our hard earned tax dollars or spend them in a way that might be more productive? A win for the individual, a win for the family, and a win for the community. Prevention/treatment options must be increased or we will only see things get worse. Continue to waste money or use is where it will make a difference?

face it people this guy has friends in high places.thats why he gets to be free after telling everyone he is one of the biggest drug dealers.so i guess he is paying the law off to keep out of jail.stop the story its getting nowhere

It makes me very sad that PARENTS did not instill internal coping skills in their children...now, we, the taxpayers are having to deal w/ the problems that these drug addicts cause....like thieving....I for one am sick to death of all the pity drug addicts get...legalize it all and let God sort em out

I hope the children get removed from this home. They should not be in the middle of drud deals. Drug deals go wrong all the time. These children could witness their parents being killed or be killed themselves. Get these children out of harms way.

to Debbie, I work at for a rehab fac. Obvously you have not looked into things. Prestera does have a impatient fac. Bacman on 20th street, river park. Ask around there is hope. And the methadone clinic would work if they would wing these people off like they are suppose to. My aunt went thru the methadone clinic and was winged off and is now drug free, plus the fire at her apartment building caused her to straighten up because god sent her a sign. Debbie your son has to want to quite , it can not just occur it takes time, once an addict always addict, it takes time to heal even after they stop. I do feel sry for the children, they have a higher chance of addiction than anyone. Because they lived thru it. The whole family needs counseling because of him. Jail does not work for these dealer and addicts, there is a dealer who hangs out by the mission all the time right by the HPD STATION AND NOTHING IS DONE. Go figure. Help these people out.

Ricky had nothing personal to gain from granting this revealing and painful interview. One would hope it has served as a preventive measure to our youth and a very candid eye opener for those who wake everyday and allow drugs to have control of their lives without even putting up a fight. Please interview doctors, rehabs, churches, counselors, anyone who may help lift and give direction to those wanting help. Communitites are willing to volunteer. We need resources. I think a personal story about someone who has overcome their addiction would be so inspirational and give so much needed hope.

Welfare checks can't buy a lot of drugs. You have to steal stuff and pawn stuff for reals.

Posted by: In the Know on Feb 9, 2008 at 01:26 PM
The $2,000 figure is quite realistic, but quite low as well. You can easily make $8,000 in two days if you are doing it right.

Posted by: Debbie on Feb 9, 2008 at 10:43 AM
My son is a drug addict and been trying to quit through different avenues in this city and has constantly ran into a brick wall. There are no "real" programs that will help those who seek the help. The methadone clinic...a joke...trade one addiction for another. Prestera only has out patient services. Oasis Behavioral Therapy, agian trade one drug for another. There are no lock up facilities to really take control of the situation. How about a follow up story about treatment for drug addicts? Several churches have programs and been a great support for my son. I can only pray that the power greater than any of us will heal my son and others like him. May God Bless Ricky and his family.

I'm SORRY FOR THE KIDS in this home and what they might go through at school etc.,since the airing of this story! I bet this DRUG DEALER who ADMITS to STILL SELLING DRUGS EVEN(NOW)gets a MEDICAL CARD that PAYS FOR HIS MEDICAL BILLS & PAYES FOR HIS PRESCRIBED PILLS/DRUGS TO SELL 100%,along with his FOODSTAMPS and $2000.00 a month CHECK EVERY MONTH! PLUS all the CRACK he can SELL or take! People this MAN is a DRUG DEALER AS HE STATES and LAUGHING or MOCKING the SYSTEM! I bet HUD is PAYING their RENT,he is making enough off of the SYSTEM/TAXPAYERS to BUY ONE! He also will get TAX money back for each child and himself for being labled as Disabled! Their are PEOPLE out there that ARE REALLY DISABLED with Real Diseases like CANCER,CRIPPELED from POLIO or STROKES or MS,BLIND,loss of LIMBS,including KIDs, VETERANS,& SENIORS.WHO are NOT DOPE DEALERS that DON'T get ENOUGH,families NEEDS HELP and can't get it! UNFAIR! HONEST HARD WORKING FAMILIES,VETERANS,REAL DISABLED,& NEEDY, PLEASE COMMENT!!!

Posted by: Oh Please on Feb 9, 2008 at 06:01 AM
I can't believe the people who think we should have pity on this guy. He brought this on his self. My grandmother was dying of cancer and was told that she was not disabled. She had to fight to get her disability and was lucky enought to get one check the month she died. These junkies are getting checks every month to assure that they get their fix. They are getting money each month to support their habit and to sit around. In the meantime, they are exposing their children to it and passing on the problem. Most of us out here have enough sense to avoid this junk in the first place so we are rewarded with struggling each day and working hard to make sure that people like this can get high. Well, I don't feel sorry for him. I only feel sorry for the children who are stuck in this situation and have no future at all. The only thing this story does is make me sick.

Posted by: Beth on Feb 8, 2008 at 10:59 PM
You know it is one thing abusing drugs and educating people about the dangers and side effects it has on you and the people around you, but airing it on national tv, that he is selling drugs and is getting social security. I hope they find out who he is and bust him and put those kids in better homes where there are no drugs.

Posted by: misltt on Feb 8, 2008 at 03:36 PM
If he isn't willing to get re-hab, serious rehabilitation, cut the check, put the kids somewhere safe, and let the wife love him from afar. Otherwise, this is pointless!!!!!!!!

To No Name.. I was in Ricky's shoes and it's really easy to slip them off if you are willing to. A little rehab and willpower goes a long way. Now I have an honest living and I couldn't be happier so if I can do it I know he definetly can. I didn't have any kids to stop destroying myself for.

ONE LAST TIME! Chronic drug & alcohol abuse is a disease. It is now classified as a disease by the entire medical community. Just ask a doctor. "quote" Like it or not. Well like it or not it is. But dealing drugs is not a disease it is a crime. Now that is a choice . To be making money off of these SICK people is something entirely different. There is no excuse for dealing drugs. If addicts cant get it then they would have no choice but to quit.

Posted by: Crystal on Feb 8, 2008 at 01:18 AM
Well I can say I have been there and I completly understand, I think people that has never donw drugs and never had a family member that has been this way, you have no idea and for a dealer it is the money not just the drugs and I dont think you should knock him for what he is tring to say and do now. yes he is stil doing it but he is tring to informaion out there so people well understand what they need to teach their kids and maybe how to provent it. I'm a mother and if I wouldnt have been there I wouldnt know what to look for or how to really talk to my kids about it. Its a different view from or side of the fence come and see and then maybe you will relize how bad it really is. you wouldnt belive the people that do it. You would have no idea. If you dont know what to look for you will never see it in your childern

"Posted by: Marcus Here's an idea....man up and take responsibility. I have absolutely no empathy for these people. Nobody is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to do drugs. It's a choice...and a bad one. I say mandatory capital punishment after the first offense. That would send a strong message to be a man!" Wow, are you kidding me? Capitol punishment for the first offense? That is a relly bad solution, how about we start getting more places for addicts to get help and start getting clean and being a productive member of society. "Nobody is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to do drugs." Seriously? It's called an addiction, once you start getting into hard stuff, you get hooked. Once you start doing these drugs you'll go into a really bad withdrawal making the need to get more of the drug into your system. I'm sure you know how addiction works already though. Addiction is a disease, that's why we need more places for addicts to go to get help.

i do feel that these people who do drugs do not deserve the money they get from ssi..my grandmother who is 65 now had to take early retirement and only get 600 a month and now she has to find a part time job. this is suppose to be her time of rest. But on the other end these people are sick and unless you have been there you do not know how hard it is. I see it everyday, these people are scared, worried and tired. Yes they have to want it but also if they are admitted involunary , they will be reviewed for 72 hours. (just like brittany spears is)....its up to us to reach out and help these people. People if you have a heart and know someone who is addicted , be there for them. do not yell at them, your just making it worse. And to those who say rehab doesnt work, look at your studies, it does, prestera has a good rate for improvement and it is improving everyday.

This is putting Families,Teens,& Children in Danger by Supporting Drug Dealers In This Manner! For you People who have TEENS and CHILDREN that think this is a Nice Man,THINK AGAIN,this man said he is DEALING DRUGS for MONEY! As STATED in the " Story Behind The Story " blog.BOTH of THESE PARENTS let their CHILDREN in on the CRIME TALK!What they are saying to the Children is Daddy can't help it that he is a DRUG DEALER! What will you say when this( as you say" NICE DRUG DEALER") sells or gives your KIDS DRUGS or SELLS other PEOPLE DRUGS to GIVE your KIDS! This DRUG DEAlER is saying he can't be TRUSTED! PROOF!

My 84 yr.old MOTHER couldn't get FOOD Stamps on her LOW INCOME,not even while she was DYING,and it was every dime the family had to keep her! I know people on SSI checks of 637.00 that pay their rent & utitlies, and have NOTHING left, that are NOT DRUG DEALERS, they had their food stamps cut because they got a 7 or$10.00 raise! A 63 yr.old person gets only $290.00.a month 150.00 in FS, FS was cut because of a $7.00 raise! Why are so many people turned down that TRULEY need help! WV will not give you the FED./ STATE Guild Lines to get help, but they dish out BENIFITS to DRUG DEALERS! CALL GOVERNOR Joe Manchin this system needs FIXED!

I hope the powers at Child Protective Services are listening to this and they remove those poor children. No eight year child should be hearing this much less living with this. His mother makes a decision to stay there but the children are being abused by their parents due to the drugs with the dad and the mom staying with him. Those children need a life and that starts with the children being placed in an appropriate home. this is what is wrong with our society, this is made okay because she "loves" him. She needs to love her children and get out.

To Ricky who is Dying For Drugs. If you truly wanted to get off drugs there are resources and places that you can get the help you need. As a recovering heroin addict of 25 yrs clean> I can tell you that some of the things you do have to be changed and unless you change them you will die a very harsh death. In my case I was addicted for years the reality of losing what I had was tremendous, giving up what was my best friend yet my worst enemy, was devastating. Yet after 9 mo. in a rehab center I came to the decision in my life that it was merely a path to destruction, despair and finally death. To see you on TV and exploiting the fact of what you do ,you make it seem as you a bragging about what you do. I firmly believe that you wont give up until it is to late. What will it take for you to stop what you are doing not just to yourself but to your family and friends that care about you. You want help prove it before you die, death is for good and for real.

Posted by: Anonymous on Feb 7, 2008 at 01:04 PM
JoJo you have no idea what you're talking about. YES we do need more rehab and detox programs because the withdrawals people go through in trying to get off this stuff can kill them. I know someone one right now who wants to stop using drugs but the withdrawal is just really bad...she needs medical supervision while going through this. You do not know what you would do or how you would feel about this unless you or a loved one experiences it. I used to be one of those who thought "they're drug users, who cares?!" Well now that it has affected my family...I CARE!

Even though I agree with what you are trying to do by educating the public of the dangers of addiction. I would like to see WSAZ provide a WARNING for those in recovery concerning the vivid pictures. I work daily with recovering addicts, your last episode triggered one of the addicts in early recovery where they could smell the medal from the spoon and hear the liquid sizzeling. Luckily, they were in a supportive, sober environment to process this trigger.

Why are we having this sympathetic debate on drug abusers? They make the decision to take an illegal substance and then I am expected to feel sorry for them and even provide tax dollars for their care policing etc. I dont care if an abuser dies. They deserve it. I am not interested in excuses, programs, sympathetic news storys or any other excuse. Its not a disease, its self inflicted and if you kill yourself so be it. One less user for the dealer to make money from.

I am really upset by this news story. Please tell me that WSAZ isn't sitting by and letting this guy get away with handing out more drugs and putting his kids in harms way. You know who he is and that he is not only using, but selling, too. You need to turn him in and get him off of the streets and away from those innocent kids. This has really disturbed me. I am a teacher, and I see what kids go through that have parents who are drug users. These kids deserve a life without drugs!

Most of you have no idea what its like to be an addict. I am a professional and make over $200k a year and Ive struggled with addiction. It doesnt discriminate. This guy is telling his story and showing others that may feel hopeless that there are other people out there in the same situation. There are programs that can help with addicts but they have to hit that "bottom" before they take action. Im not saying that his wife should keep her family in that situation because it can be very dangerous. No one can make him get help he needs to make that decision on his on but he is obviously not ready. There are underlying resons that people use these substances, the drugs are merely and side effect of their disease. I honestly dont think people should criticize this man for his addiction. Dont enable him either.

To all the people who say you can't get hooked on pot.....YES YOU CAN! If you have been smoking pot for 30 years I have news for you. YOU ARE HOOKED! I denied it too until I took a good look at my life. As long as I had my bag life was great, but when I couldn't find any or had no money life SUCKED. Also, it does too have a bad effect on your body. I have asthma now and it was directly attributed to pot smoke. Face your own addiction and get help if you need it. Just stop trying to justify it.

Ricky's wife needs to take the kids and leave before she loses them to Child Protective Services. Help can be found if only she would ask for it. It does not sound as if he thinks or wants to stop! The children will soon be embarassed,(if not already,)by this situation that they did not ask to be in! This interview obviously did not keep the family's identity from being known. It is time to stop this insanity or at least protect these innocent children. By keeping the drug dealing around the children they will grow up to resent that they were not saved from this life style. Mom or someone please, get these children out! No one wants to see your children go into a foster home. It is so hard to hear that this is a disease; as you never see a cure! The resentment of having to growup this way never goes away! Sure, it will be a daily battle for Ricky but, gaining back the respect of his children would sure be worth it!

There is NOT enough love in the world to subject your kids that depend on you for their saftey and morals to make u stay with a DOPE HEAD!!! What are you gonna do when your house is raided and your kids end up with the welfare dept?? How much love will you give the worthless man your with then??

The children need to be taken out of this home. He admits to dealing drugs. If we the taxpayers are already paying his way then why not put him in jail? He admits to dealing and doing drugs, he has put his childrens life in danger.I dont really care what he has done to himself, or the wife she has had the chance to leave and take the kids and she hasnt so she is also at fault! I also noticed how Ricky said "you write it on paper and he can get you any drug you want" It figures he would promote for himself..even more money that he isnt claiming as income..he and his family probably live on welfare...I wish they would test people before handing them a check! The state should also randomly test welfare cases!! If they are found to be on drugs then they should NEVER be able to recieve assistance from this state or any other EVER!!! Im sure this story wasnt meant to upset people, but Im a taxpayer and my husband and I both work really hard to give our kids what they need.

to everyone who thinks we need more rehab centers. think again. it doesn't matter how many we have or how many times they go, they don't quit unless they truly want to. 9 out of 10 choose rehab to get out of a jail sentence or to get their families off their back for a while. For all you that don't know this-illegal drugs are in the rehabs. alot of times the patient can come and go outside the facility and bring the drugs back with them. So the main thing is they have to quit drugs for themselves not anyone else and until they are truly ready they will not quit. The working people have to take drug test to keep their jobs so maybe the state should make people on welfare or any other check that they don't work for, take random drug test to keep these checks.People that truly derserve these checks that comment wasn't ment for u.

as a Behavioral specialist at a near by rehab facilty , I do know that alchol and drugs are a disease. It kills you slowly. If you do not know anything about the affects or the illness its self , do not write things. These drugs take over your life and self esteem. Families are destroyed and yes I think he should get help and shouldn't be driving with them in the car. I do not think the kids going into foster care will help him nor anyone else any at all. I have been in those shoes seeing what those kids go thru being tossed from one foster home to another. Its not worth the pain it causes. The wife can admitt him herself. All she has to do is take him to River park, parc west or the hospital is the first step , have him involuntary commited, they will evauate him for 72 hours and determine if he needs help. thank you wsaz for airing this and letting everyone know how horrible these drugs are. Finally someone tells people this.one airing can help someone child in this area. god bless

I think people like Ricky have something to live for BUT he needs to take the next step and get some kind of help not only for his self but also for his family that should make him go get help so he will be there for them because the road that he is going down they might not have them as long as they would like because drugs do take over your life and then the drugs will take your life to. And I just couldn't believe what I was seeing and the worse part about it is that he has brought his whole family into it. For all you who think that this is a good thing, think again, like I said I know him. And he may sound like he is sorry but think again. He has never done anything to help himself, ever!!! He says he can't ride a bicycle but by god he can ride a 4- wheeler and a dirtbike. And Heidi well....if I was her, I wouldn't still be there...he has been nothing be horrible to her. And their kids well, lets see, he drives around with them in the car all missed up.....And I know more than this, this is not even 1/2 of what I know....So for all you that feel Sorry for him...Think Again

Leave them alone and go away! You're nothing but worthless. Get help or leave! Quit robbing those who truly need welfare and SS and most of all quit robbing your own family of the happiness, safety, and normalcy they deserve!!!!!!

Ricky needs to quit making excuses and the IRS needs to look into that extra $2000 he's "earning." I have to pay taxes to support his "disability" just because he wasn't accepted by his friends. I DON'T LIKE IT. I think the painkillers being prescribed by doctors need to be monitored more closely and the doctors prescribing these drugs need to be monitored more closely. We have a pain management clinic in our neighborhood and the first of the month people are parking in the street to get the pain meds. Anyone can get any thing they want by having "back trouble" or "bad nerves." These are the drugs, paid for by SSI that end up in schools, a few pills at a time. My kids graduated high school a few years ago and looking through the yearbooks now you see kids in rehab or needing to be in rehab. The girl are pregnant with a medical card, and/or their boyfriends aren't working, but they still have money to run the roads with no thought about the child. Some accountability is needed.

I can't believe this person even has custody of his children! Go Linda. Call the police and child services and see if they can ID this loser and get him in jail. Hopefully those poor children will be placed in a good foster home.

you know, drugs are a horrible thing and i personally do not do them, but, it is not our place to say that drug or alcohol abuse is not a disease. yes, people choose to do these but sometimes people get so down in life and depressed or whatever that they may make the mistake of trying drugs to get through the day because they are so down. i don't know why they choose to start doing drugs but i do know that we should not be so quick to judge others because i would almost guarantee that those of you that constantly want to put these people down are setting in your nice comfy house, surrounded by a loving family and don't have too many worries in life. we can all say we don't understand but u ntil you have been down and out or have no family...then whos to say what you would do. they say drugs temporarily take away the pain or the depression and then after a while your hooked. Now i do agree that you should not get ssi for alcohol or drug addiction. there should just be treatment options

Posted by: Anonymous on Feb 6, 2008 at 01:32 PM
I have a family member addicted to Xanax and pain pills too. It's about to kill her! Once you get hooked it's really hard to get off of these things. The desire for the drug completely takes over any common sense or rational thinking. I do NOT agree with these people getting a dime from SSI..that's ridiculous! But I do wish it was easier to get into a decent detox/rehab program.

MY THOUGHTS ON THE DRUG DEALER AND USER IS HOW IN THE WORLD CAN HE DRAW DISABILITY HE ISN'T DISABLED HE IS A DOPE HEAD. THEY ARE PEOPLE IN THIS WORLD WHO REALLY NEED THE DISABILITY I THINK THAT THE LAW NEEDS TO GET ON TOP OF THIS BECAUSE HE HAS AMITTED TO DEALING DRUGS. I HAVE WATCHED PEOPLE SUFFER WITH PAIN CAUSE THEY HAVE NO MEDICAL INSURANCE NOR THE MONEY TO GO HAVE THE TEST DONE ON THEM TO FIND OUT WHAT IS WRONG, DISABLED MY FOOT THE TAX PAYERS ARE SUPPORTING THIS MANS HABBITS AND IT IS NOT FAIR I THINK THAT HE SHOULD BE ARRESTED AND PUT UNDER THE JAIL I HAVE 2 CHILDREN OF MY OWN EVERY MOM SHOULD WORRY ABOUT THIS MAN HE MAY BE SELLING DRUGS TO ONE OF YOUR KIDS SHERRY FROM LOUISA

Posted by: Rick on Feb 6, 2008 at 10:29 AM
Maria, you have no sympathy for the addicts because they caused the problem. What about those who caused their cancer by smoking 2 packs a day? Should we not feel sorry for them? The medical community considers both addiction and cancer as diseases. When you show some medical certification we might listen to your opposing viewpoint. Until then we'll listen to the professionals.

What is the point of this story? He is still using and dealing drugs. It looks like Ricky just wanted some free air time to promote is pot and pill biz!I have lived in Huntington my whole life and it's people like this that are running all of our young people out of this once proud city :(

Posted by: Debbie on Feb 6, 2008 at 09:50 AM
Anonymous, you say you aren't hooked? then quit! Pot may not be physically addictive but it's habit forming and illegal and can get you in trouble. Granted the jury is out on how dangerous it is, but it is known to cause memory problems. So if don't have a monkey, why not quit? I think so many of you posting are in denial about addiction. You think it's the thief you read about. Fact is, I'd wager half of all families are affected in some way, pain pills, xanax, ativan, alcohol etc. Many addicts are totally functional and work regularly.

Posted by: Leann on Feb 6, 2008 at 08:15 AM
I think it is so easy for everyone to judge, unless you have been in this situation you really wouldnt know.I know alot of people that took pain pills due to"Medical reasons and befor you knew it they had such a high tolerance that what they had just wasnt enough and then they would have to go and look for more, before you know they are addicted some of those people are really good people and never wanted to get addicted but it happens. I dont agree with the using or selling but this is going on everywhere you look. Some of it is I blame the doctors for just righting any prescriptions that a person ask for! I am glad I do not do drugs because I have seen alot of wonderful people go down the drain fast and it is really sad but people need to realize that a addiction is a disease and these people do need help but it is easier said than done!!!! So for the ones that one to judge everyone obvisouly this is all you have to do!! Pray for these people and families.

Ricky needs help! Most of all his children need help! The county wants to come after those of us who take care of our children when they miss too many days of school because the are ill and they let someone like Ricky off the hook. The big problem with someone on drugs is they need help and they need to have the resources to help them. My son used to be an addict it took months for us to find help for him. We need to make it easier for these kids to find help when they have no where else to turn. Other kids now ask my son how did you do it I am sick of this life style I need help. Lets find was to help the ones who really want help. Who would ever want to live like this? Why has the county not looking at Ricky and his wife for the care and well being of their children?

Posted by: Rita on Feb 6, 2008 at 07:44 AM
I agree with the comments about getting kids to watch these videos. If it could just prevent ONE child from turning towards drugs it would be worth it. I have spoken at a school in our area because of drugs. Not because I did them but because I buried my nephew because of them. For once, these kids in this area seen the other side of the effects of drug usage. They seen someone, which was me, that had helped fight his addiction, we stood beside him every step of the way and we still lost. For some reason, kids these days think they are immortal. I have raised mine to know and thats what I told these kids when I spoke to them, that for every action there is a reaction. Good or bad, doesn't matter! Even though we wanted to hate the dealers and hold them solely responsible, you can't! Its 50-50! The addict is just as responsible as the dealer! There does need to be tougher laws regarding dealers! My nephews gone and the dealers are still dealing!

Posted by: a loving mother on Feb 6, 2008 at 07:27 AM
Once people start doing drugs, they become addicted mentally and physically. I have had friends die because they couldn't stop taking pain pills. It started with marijuana and escalated to pills and then stronger pills, then whatever they could get their hands on. Some older people are selling their pain medication to their own kids. More laws need to be made regarding the prescribing of pain pills. They always end up in the wrong hands. Addiction can happen to anyone and happens to good people as well as bad ones.

There is help out there to quit drugs . I have no pitty for drugies . Maybe if we cut off this monthly suppord payment for these druggies and alcholics maybe they could fix some roads and bridges .

Am I missing the point of the "Dying for Drugs" series. This "Ricky" guy is telling us drugs have destroyed his life and everyone should stay away from them, but it's okay for him to continue to use and sell them. One of my coworkers said her and her husband has been watching these stories on WSAZ and that her husband is a case worker with the WVDHHR and he deals with many cases each month of people who are drug/alcohol addicts who get $1500 a month in disability and some single applicants get $200 in foodstamps each month plus a medical card. I might quit my job today and become a crackhead.

Well, I am glad that Ricky has told his story, but now it is time for him to do something to change his life. Ricky has 4 kids not 3 like he stated on the news, I guess his memory failed him there too. What happened to your other child Ricky? Do we really want to know? Probably not. I am glad that you are not trying to sugar coat or glorify this lifestyle but its time for a change, if not for you, for your children. Its a sad situation. Rickys wife isn't completely innocent either, she has done her fair share of dope, believe that! She may have changed since I have "dealt" with them, but it's apparent that he has not. Ricky, if you are not going to stop doing dope, atleast stop selling it, don't drag anyone else down the gutter with you anymore. I know if people don't get dope from you they will get it from someone else, but who cares, atleast make the job a little harder for them. Don't turn anyone else into you!

WHAT!!!!!!??????? I can't beleive that this so called "man" and his wife are getting 2000.00 a month in social security plus 2000.00 in drug sales and no law enforcement or social security person is doing anything about it. I draw social security for medical problems NOT DRUGS OR ALCOHOL. This is wrong, very wrong. Are the police looking the other way??? Maybe if I do this I can collect 4000.00 a month too, what an easy life. No thanks Ill live my life legally and I sure will be contacting the social security office on this matter, Im SURE they can get the info they need even tho he HIDES his face on TV. Is that for protection or just SHAME. Someone like that has no shame or morals. I feel sorry for his kids. Why dont childrens services step in?? Im going to contact them too.

I hope this scares someone bad enough to stay far,far away from drugs. I don't do drugs at all. i really didn't know it was this bad on the streets with drugs. i knew they existed but not to the extent he told about on the interview. It scared me enough to let anyone know to stay away from any type of drug may it be pot, cocaine anything just leave it alone!! This is a very real story that should be shown in every school in the region and in the United States. It gave me chill bumps just to sit and listen to Ricky tell his story.

Posted by: Beverly on Feb 5, 2008 at 11:44 PM
This is just unbelieveable to have someone on tv saying the things he does and not in jail. I get ssi and i don't get nutting compared to what he gets and mine is not because of drugs. Mine is medical. I worked for 27years and then had to quit cause of medical and that wsn't by my choice. Why in the world do people get in this shape to let there body almost shut down don't understand. And still he is saying he is selling drugs. What does the police think of this nuttin i guess.I don't feel sorry for him at all.

Ihave been watching the interview about the drugs, it breaks my heart to see so many people ruining their lives and their families lives. I have never done drugs , i don't know what posesses them to do them , I have known of so many people that has died from drugs. You would think their friends would try to stop when they see this happening. People are going to have to watch their children because it don't take much to get this kids hooked and the money is easy to them. They just don't know the consequenses.

Why do addicts have such a pathetic sense of entitlement? The "state" or anyone else should NOT have to pay for you to go to rehab. You made a selfish decision to do drugs, you need to find your own way out of it. No-one OWES any of you anything. It's ridiculous for you people to get on here and place the blame everywhere except on yourself. Take responsibilty.

Posted by: Maria on Feb 5, 2008 at 10:48 PM
lol...I cant help to laugh at people saying doing drugs is a disease. No, cancer is a disease! People that have cancer have no control over it, it just grows on its own. You have a choice when it comes to drugs. So stop trying to get pitty by calling it a disease!

Posted by: Joseph on Feb 5, 2008 at 09:50 PM
This is for everyone with a serious problem with drugs, alcohol or anything that is ruining their life. I know a way for them to overcome and defeat their problem, "permantly". Give your problem to Christ. He can change your want tos instantly without any side affects. Through God all things are possible. His name is above every other name. If you honestly want to kick these problems out of your life be honest and ask him to help you with them. Remember Wednesday night is a church night and you can be there to have someone pray over you and help you with this. I have seen this problem totally defeated in people's lives My pastor used to be one of them and God brought him out of drugs, alcohol and sin. Call on God, He will answer. He will not let you down at all.

Does he get a disability check like an alcoholic does? If you are a druggie or an alcoholic, yu can get ssi or disability, and usually get more than someone that has worked most of their life. My friends son was an alcoholic, and he got $1200.00 a month, I am disabled (and used to work from the age of 16) and I only get $600 a month. Maybe I should have become an alcoholic or a druggie, would have gotten more money to live on!

how much money for ssi heck iwill get on dope for 1500 amonth cause most people only get 625 and cant pay rent!!!

China has a very effective drug treatment program. You get rehab once after that they execute the addict. This would save millions. It would reduce crime. Dead people do not commit crimes.

Posted by: Anonymous on Feb 5, 2008 at 06:04 PM
Tyler is 100% correct, like MANY who are arrested or drug addicts get a "check", if they are able to do drugs and steal then they can get a job and save the tax payers. Give the checks to people who truly need it.

Posted by: Jay on Feb 5, 2008 at 05:50 PM
I think your whole story on "Dying for Drugs" is a joke. Saying that drugs messed up your life is the same as food made you fat. The people on your broadcast are probley doing this as some type of plea deal with the law. I think there is a differnce between weed and meth. If you think weed has messed up your life you must have not had much of a life to begin with. If drugs are drugs, food is food. Here is a idea call them what they are, meth, herion, coke, but come on Drugs?

Marcus should go live in the Middle East since he apparently likes their ideas on capital punishment. It might originally be a choice. It later becomes an addiction. Just like Marcus's internet addiction.

he is still taking pain pills and xanx, thats probably the reason he drools on himself!!! its like this guy is saying: dont do cocaine or heroin, because they are bad, but its ok to do xanx and pain pills. I'm sorry but drugs are drugs, it doesnt matter what kind, yes some are stronger than others but they are all bad for you!!! It's just crazy how some people justify doing things.

My brother is 47, he has been a druggie since 12. It tore our family apart. He has been in and out of clinics, rehabs, psych, nothing has worked. the reason? He never really wanted to get off them. He has spent a few stints in jail that actually got him sober for a few months, and I didnt know him when he called. He lives in PA, so I don't deal with him on a daily basis. Growing up with it everyday was plenty thanks. I dont do drugs, Drugs scare me. I think if punishment contained no Freebies like checks and foodstamps it may deter them. I am just sick of seeing the dealers go up and down the street with the hookers. Every where you look. Drugs and users. Will it ever end?

How many people will use the video and printed material from these reports to teach their children about drugs and what can happen?? My husband have alreaddy discussed this and rest assure our son will be getting a reinforcement lesson!!! Thank you Carrie for this report and thank you Ricky for being so candid.

Posted by: Cindy on Feb 5, 2008 at 01:34 PM
I agree with the guy who said "man" up but this is also to the mothers who pick drugs over their own children, you need to "woman up". You make choices every day, more treatment facilities will only give the ones who want to manipulate the system a little longer a place to go and get an "excuse" for their behaviors not addiction. I agree with mandatory drug screening for welfare receipants. If you work and take care of your responsibilities YOU WILL NOT HAVE TIME FOR THE DRUGS AND TIME TO FEEL SORRY FOR YOURSELF AND ASK FOR EVERYONE TO GIVE YOU A FREE TICKET FROM RESPONSIBILITY. Those of you who are trying to truly get off drugs go to your doctor and ask for help.

To Carrie and WSAZ..thank you so much for bringing this to the forefront! Please keep this in the media because there is not enough help for these people. If you know of a place where someone can get help...someplace without a waiting list and that will accept people who don't have a lot of money..please let us know!!

Posted by: Anonymous on Feb 5, 2008 at 11:56 AM
Those who aren't sympathetic have never had a loved one go through this. I have a close family member who is addicted to drugs...she wants off them desperately so I thought ok...I'll just look up a rehab center and get her in. WRONG! It's very very hard to get help! Most places either want a bunch of money up front, or else they have a huge waiting list. There isn't enough help for these people! My loved one is addicted to prescription pain pills that were originally prescribed to her. She began buying from a drug dealer and is now a full fledged addict and fighting for her life. There needs to be more help for people to get off this stuff. Sadly, it's just easier to get the drugs than it is to get into a good treatment center.

I can say that this man took a big step by telling the people how drugs affect you and your life. I hope this man can get help and change his life. I'll be praying for you Ricky and you family. But he's also right Huntington is going down hill. We the people who want to get out of Huntington can't we can't even sell our houses because people know that this is a bad area and it leaves us stuck. I'm scared to even walk out my front door. It is'nt like it use to be. I'm 32yrs old and have 2 disabled children and i'm from Wayne County but i bought a house in the Westend of Huntington in 2000 and that was the worse mistake i had ever made. I know there is drugs everywhere but you just did'nt see all of this in Wayne County. I was use to my kids being able to walk outside and play while my grandmother and i would be sitting on the front porch drinking a cup of cofee and laughing and talking about the good old days. But now you try to sit on your front porch in Huntington it's crazy. Think!!!!

OK too me that wrote you have NO sympathy. You do not know how different people deal with addictions. I was once addicted thanks to my boyfriend at the time and I was close to death and I got out of it and the people and left and haven't went back since But Ricky is right alot of things change about you. And everyone is different, you cannot judge until you have been there. I feel sorry for people who want to quit because they have kids and they cannot be a good parent because of these drugs. When they teach you about drugs in school they bring the drugs in and they say its bad they never give you TRUE life stories and you getting to see what drugs do or half of society would never start. Drugs are really hard to quit unless you do almost die. For some people they have no family or no help and drugs are all they Know. Drugs even pay better than the jobs here. And our government knows this and doesn't care they want you to die so they don't have to pay you. GOD gives u strength!

I saw your story yesterday & right after, I saw my own son on, arrested for robbery in Carter county, behind his addiction to oxycodone. I'm angry, hurt, and dismayed that everyone in this little town knew what was going on, including law enforcement, but his father and I. I really wish that the FBI-DEA would come in here and clean this place up, since it is coming in from Fla. to Catlettsburg, which is common knowledge, to everyone, from the ticket fixing judges to the son of the dope man that my son reportedly ripped off as well. I hoped that moving from a big city to a small town would be better for my grown children and my grand children. It's not, it's just as bad, only difference is is that you know or are related to the person that is dealing out the poison, as well as the people who are here to serve and uphold the law? Whose law? I'm glad that God stepped in an my son is somewhere were he can't put the poison in his body, and before he got killed. Now I hope he tells all!!

Here's an idea....man up and take responsibility. I have absolutely no empathy for these people. Nobody is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to do drugs. It's a choice...and a bad one. I say mandatory capital punishment after the first offense. That would send a strong message to be a man!

Knowing that these drugs are so addictive and what they can do to you, why would you ever try them? I have seen what they do to people and I would never try it! Parents, find the nasty most vile video of drug users and make you kids watch it! It deterred me from doing drugs, I saw it firsthand! I have an x sister-in-law that is addicted to crack and has become a prostitute. She has lost everything, husband, kids, house, car. Don't hide this from your kids, show them what will happen, show them what it does to you! Deter them and help give them an idea of what these do to you!

So he says that his kids are his life and he would do anything for them, yet he sells drugs and takes them. Im pretty sure the only thing his kids want is for him to stop. I think Huntington would be better off if he was gone, either by bus or by casket!

This drug problem is growing out of control. I was blind about it up until about a year ago. Now it is way to close in my life. Thank God, we are starting the road to recovery but there are so many people out there who are just getting started in the long horrible process of the drug world. We found a GOOD treatment center out there, but there are sooo many that will not accept you if you do not have insurance! THATS SAD!! I have also found, that a lot of people abuse the system... I guess you find that everywhere you go. But A lot of people are going to these clinics and selling what they get there. Im not sure what the right or wrong path is but I pray for Ricky and people like him. Because it is a major problem in our world right now and when it hits close to home, its the worst possible thing ever. When you are a wife, daughter or mother of a drug addict, you fill just as a lone as they do!

I have read some of the comments made here and alot of people have said about the same thing..But the bottom line is he is a DRUG DEALER!!!! And has kids..He has not made any steps to change his life...He still smokes pot and does pain pills and I'm sure his kids are around when he does it...Proud of him because he speaks out now??? How many kids has he killed by selling the stuff to them??? 1 would be enough..Drug dealers are all the same and can not change. He will be rigfht back into the same crap when he gets low on money or needs the quick fix and shoots another load into his arm just too feel the harm feeling that he longs for now!!!!!!!!!

I would like to know if "Ricky" will end up getting social security disability. The answer is YES. I worked for SSD for many years and have seen drug addicts who never worked a day in their lives file for and get SSD, then get a $1500 check each month to keep their habit going. While many hardworking people become disabled by no choice of their own are denied SSD and spend years in the appeal process and some of them end up dying with every receiving SSD.

I hate to sound mean but I am not so sympathetic with "Ricky". Alot of addicts do this to themselves. They know what can happen but ignore that. They know that they are illegal and ignore that. I look at it like this, I have had a million excuses that I could have used to be a uswer (family problems, personal problems, not fitting in, etc) but I had enough about me to relize that drugs were not going help me. They only increase problems. While I hate to see anyone waste their life like this, they choose to be where they are. I really feel for the children. Look at what direction they are being led. He is saying not to do it to other people, yet he does it having his own small children there to see him as an example. There are no happy stories with this "disease". I just find it very sad and I can not understand it at all. I do hope "Ricky" can beat this demon and provide a better example for those babies.

Rick, I am happy with you! It takes "wanting to" which is the key. I don't mean ya I'd like to quit some day or I'm going to sometime it means I'm ready to stop. Then way behind that is 2nd. admit & you have done that here. Then Ricky ask God to help you & I guarantee he will (misery back guarantee). Then seek professional help. It may & probably will be hard to get to the right clinic or doctor but not impossible & it may cost but what are you paying with now plus your life. The right Technology is here. Now! None of these things will stop you if you (want to) bad enough. When Carrie asked you about what you are under the influence of now your defence mechanism kicked in & stated it backwards -Right? This is a common symptom as to not look at the real problem & So this is what you have to do get honest with yourself & meet this head on .It will be a fight but this fight is for your life & your children & one you can win! Your in the big league of life now.

I deal with adictions every day and we need to listen to this man, we need more detox and treatment centers, drugs are ruining our state and our country, Stand up and demand more help for those who want it, this disease is killing people. I see the desperation of family and loved ones trying to get help for thier loved one, but there is no beds right now I say over and over every day as my heart breaks for them and the children will more then likly will grow up and do the same thing they have seen as a child. We need help but only the loudest voices will be heard. God Bless the United States of America as we watch the adicts die because we have not the resorces to help them.

Ricky why did you let your body get this way? i smoked pot for years and never let myself get to the piont that you are in right now.i think that you need to get more control of your life than what you got right now.they always say that if you smoked pot that you would be doing more hard stuff later in life, but that is not true i quit smoking pot after i lost my best friend in 2006 .things are in your control and my motto to you his God only helps those who help themselfs.

i deal with people in his situation all time..some people in the community think its easy to get off these drugs and its not..they are sick and need help. reach out and help someone, instead of judging them. Have a heart...do what u would do if it was you or someone u deeply loved..

I feel your pain Ricky. I was an addict for 30 years. It took my son and God to get me off that roller coaster. I now have asthma because of the smoke damage to my lungs. You can stop too, I have faith. God can do wonders for us if we let Him. Good luck and God bless you and your family.

These parents also seem to be the really high ego type person. funny thing is if the parent was so good then why arent they pro or at least a great college player. what i have noticed is the the kids w/ the parent who did play college or was on the verge of being pro does not press the issue. they allow the kids to play ball. just my opinion

  • Posted By: AnonymousMy comment is about the WV Unemployment office. The people who work there must be the most incompetent baffoons imaginable because it seems that they can never get anything right. It is bad enough that you have to wait in line for hours with all the other people who were unfortunate enough to lose their jobs due to the bad economy but when you finally get to see someone, they always manage to completely mess things up. As if to add insult to injury, they also seem to take great pleasure in denying someone because of their mistake which forces you to appeal their "decision" and go through it all over again. These people are far worse than your typical state employee, they are morons.
  • Posted By: EveHas anyone had people soliciting at their homes for "Cabell County schools"? Had a female come to the house this morning (on the July 4 holiday) from "University of Georgia" on behalf of Cabell County to talk to local parents. She had no list of student names and made the assumption that we had kids by the toys/bikes in our yard. She had a notebook with "local parents" names that she had talked with, but I didn't recognize any of the names. She asked about the neighborhood and if any other kids lived there. I didn't disclose any info except that lots of kids live in the area. Didn't let her in the house. Just suspicious because of the holiday and local home robberies. Called Huntington Police to inform them. Wanted to post to get more info out to other families. Have a safe holiday and if anyone else has similar info, please call the Huntington Police Dept. @ 696-4470.

Now my favorite restaurant in the world Kentucky Fired Chicken has thrown in twith these nuts and is grilling chicken now. Chicken was never meant to be grilled only fried regular or extra crispy. So people I say get busy we have work to do they is two states in front of us we in WV have to reclaim our top spot as best fed in the whole country go down to the foodland or kroger and get a cube of regular mountain dew a sack of Lays chips and some good ball park big red smokeys with a big bowl of chili and have a grill out tomorrow to celebrate the fourth of July in style and may I say God bless the USA and coal miners too.

Cap and trade?(sign of the mark of the beast?)I don't know. I am ready. You that believe in science is fine, I do too. I do not go as far as to believe every report they give out. I pose this question. if you are so worried about global warming that means you don't like heat or burning:correct? Hmmm, think on this of what in Revelation I do understand. The lake of fire is where the worm dieth not and the fire is never quenched. Eternity is forever, on this Earth we are just passing through.

  • Posted By: PattyGood points, Htiek, but the status quo with coal mining, which is a dirty business, no matter how it is marketed, i.e., "clean coal" (coal is dirty, period), will remain till the resources are depleted, the land and environment of the coal fields are destroyed, which is pretty much the case at present.
  • Posted By: bonnOne more thing and I really will stop. Why does the weather cycle? I do not know everything-no one does. But everything has its purpose. Sometimes, more cold is called for. If we don't have hard winters snakes and mosquitoes thrive, for one. Mosquitoes are a large part of fish diet. And snakes keep rodents in check. But too much cold hurts other things that call for warmer temps. Quail is one thing that comes to mind that suffer in the frigid temps. We just don't understand all of the workings of these things. But it is all to keep a balance-many times in things we ourselves have killed off, such as bear and wolves. Even if we don't like some species, they all serve a purpose and nature helps keep that balance. Our world really was wonderfully made. With all the changes in temperature, we still have seasons. You can know it will be cold in winter and hot in summer. The excesses serve a purpose we sometimes can not see. Strive to learn of all of her wonders, not follow blindly.
  • Posted By: bonnI would like to apologize if I have been short and critical. I really am sorry. It is no excuse, but I have a very sick child who may be dying and I get so upset at the state of our world. I do have to quit reading these comments. But I hope I have caused a few people at least to think with their own common sense instead of blindly following whatever. Some theories may be correct. But many ARE for monetary purposes. We each were given a mind to think with. Question everything before taking it as it appears. And be sure and thank a veteran for the freedom we celebrate this weekend. Too many have died to protect it to just give it up willingly. And whether or not you are religious, lets try to love one another. Love can fix so many things! Try to keep our world clean, But that doesn't have to bankrupt us. We can all do our part in whatever ways we can. The old saying "Give a hoot, don't pollute" should not have gone out of style. And use your wikipedia to read "Ice Age" to see cycling.
  • Posted By: Follow up on cap and rapeCNSNews.com) – The 1,400-page cap-and-trade legislation pushed through by House Democrats contains a new federal policy that residential, commercial, and government buildings be retrofitted to increase energy efficiency, leaving it up to the states to figure out exactly how to do that. This means that homeowners, for example, could be required to retrofit their homes to meet federal “green” guidelines in order to sell their homes, if the cap-and-trade bill becomes law. The bill, which now goes to the Senate, directs the administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to develop and implement a national policy for residential and commercial buildings. The purpose of such a strategy – known as the Retrofit for Energy and Environmental Performance (REEP) – would be to “facilitate” the retrofitting of existing buildings nationwide. In other words all your appliances-heating-stove -fridge-windows-would have to meet green standards before we sell SOCAILISM HAS ARRIVED YESWEDID

In a revamped health care system envisioned by senators, people would be required to carry health insurance just like motorists must get auto coverage now. The government would provide subsidies for the poor and many middle-class families, but those who still refuse to sign up would face fines of more than $1,000. The details were unveiled Thursday in a health care overhaul bill supported by key Senate Democrats looking to fulfill President Barack Obama's top domestic priority.SOCAILISM IS HERE The Congressional Budget Office estimated the fines would raise around $36 billion over 10 years. • Posted By: bonnGood grief! The brain washing has gone so far it will never get better. Some of this way of thinking makes me physically ill in my stomach. All of one mind! Mindless devotion to whatever is contrary to common sense and whatever theory is being passed around. Most families have both parents working, some two jobs, just to make it now. Soon you won't even be able to work enough to carry your family, the government and the ones who won't work. Then you will be disposable and they will start killing you off because you can't give them enough money. But you will blindly keep following. It is easy to see how Hitler took control and how it is being set up for the antichrist to take control. I quit. I will never read another comment. • Posted By: HtiekWhat always amazes me about people in WV is their slavish devotion to coal mining even though it is killing the planet, costs more jobs than it creates, poisons the water, destroys the mountains, scars the land, kills the snail darter, and other horrible things. Things are all so backwards in this country why dont we switch over to something that lasts and is free like the sun and wind? Even if the president said that stuff and I doubt he did and even if he did you are misquoting him or taking him out of context he is right if there is one sure way to get people to stop turning their air conditioners down to 76 it is to raise the price, just like gasoline. People we can learn to ride bikes and walk again, just like they did in the old days, that will help give us exercise and decrease the obesity rate in WV. Food is another area, the slop that people eat like MacDonalds, trans fats, regular soft drinks, anybody with half a brain knows the intelligent thing to do is tax regular soda pop.

  • Posted By: KrisHi Bonn, it is true that these cycles do occur over time. Scientists have taken core samples from the earth and the ice to show these cycles. However, none of the samples show such a dramatic change in such a short period of time. I am a smoker and I will admit that my second hand smoke can and probably will effect the lungs of a non-smoker. The tons of carbon monoxide and other pollutants that we release into our atmosphere HAS TO have an effect on our atmosphere. True story: there was a scientist that day after day after day couldn't figure out why the sky was so blue and clear. Then it struck him, there hadn't been ANY planes in the air for three days. That was 911. What you put out, is what you get back. If you put love out, you will get love back. If you put out negativity, you will get negativity back. For every action, there is a reaction whether it's good or bad. It's in our hands to do our best not to cause an adverse impact to our planet. Peace to ALL!

This so called cap and trade bill that these busy body do gooders are pushing on us will destroy our jobs and run up the electric bills so that everybody will have to live like the Waltons with 27 people under one roof just to keep warm. Now the average hippie longhair don’t care noway because they would have us all living in mud huts riding mules wearing sandals and weaving baskets to load down with califlowers and arougalas tofu and alfalfa to take up on some worthless mountaintop as an offering to there windmill god instead of having nice homes, cars, a job and cool air in the summer and heat in the winter ALL THANKS TO THE COAL MINER. • Posted By: bonnI was trying to make a point. Perhaps not in the best way. I get so discouraged seeing what is happening around us. One group of scientists call for us to spread soot on all the snow up north to absorb heat to counter the coming ice age. Another (more popular) group calls for painting our roofs white to reflect the heat that is melting our ice caps. Which group is right? Neither. Our earth is doing exactly as it has been doing all along. Cycling naturally. Did it plan it all on its own? Hardly. But no one wants to hear that. It reminds me of "chicken little" yelling "the sky is falling". Only this is not so funny-this is control. And what is even sadder is-people seem to WANT to be controlled. This earth will continue as always until one preplanned day it all comes to a screeching halt. Then a new earth will be created. I will not be caught off guard. I read The Book. I know where I will be. Do you? And do you really enjoy giving those schemers your money that much? I hope one day...
  • Posted By: KeithA few questions for the Yell audience: Does anyone remember when Obama gave that interview in SanFran Cisco and said that he would not prevent the construction of a coal fired plant, but his policies would bankrupt anybody that tried to build one? That policy was cap and trade. I heard O say that energy prices, under his administration, would "necessairly skyrocket." Is this the hope and change you guys voted for? How will you afford your electric and gas service under this man who cares so much for the poor? Obama said once that he was not bothered that the price of gas had risen so high, just that it happened so fast. How does everyone feel about the gas price? Obama raked John Pablo McCain over the coals for suggesting health care benefits be taxed as income, now he is going to do the same thing to pay for "free" care to illegal aliens, deadbeats, etc...but union workers will be exempt from this tax. How does that make you feel if you work for a living and are not in a union? H&C

The people of Honduras have a Constitution very similar to ours and we should support the people not an extremist who is trying to take over their country. The 22nd Amendment does a great service for our nation. IF it would be reversed that would be O.K too. At the rate Obama is going W. could beat him in 2012. At least I would sleep better at night.

Christians absolutely can and do get angry, it's what they do with that anger that counts. It doesn't matter where, when, or even IF you go to church...what matters is that you have accepted Christ into your heart and asked for forgiveness of your sins. God didn't save us to judge others, he saved us to lead others to him. I've said many times...what if the person you just yelled at, told off, or whatever showed up at your church on Sunday? Would you be proud of your behavior?

He told me tales of his school days, friends, boyish pranks, old cars and the fun they had at the 4-H camp. Spencer was a big place to them. Roane Co. gave us many war veterans and kept distant family & friends together with the annual "Roane County Reunion". I don't even know if they still have it, but we used to go. I remember seeing Sen. Robert Byrd play his fiddle there. The Black Walnut Festival in October(?) is a good time to visit Spencer. They usually have a parade, arts & crafts and a museum. Cause you obviously have none! You have all this free time on your hands! Why don't you spend this free time helping others instead of puttin them down! You know..WSAZ has job postings...Maybe you could find one on there!!!!I'm not a negative person. Maybe I'm just like everyone else that has a job and three kids and a lot of things to do! I get stressed out, I know that goes way over your head,You don't get stressed. But because you go to church doesn't mean you can't get angry about stuff!!LOL My father-in-law is a Deacon at my church and even he has a temper!! Look out craveontruth! Looks like RoaneCo. has found someone else to pick on!Good Luck!! Have a perfect day ( I know you will)!!
  • Posted By: RoaneCo.Yes Craveontruth, there is a place named Looneyville.(no Jane Doe that isn't where I live) It is on Rt.36, nothing there but the Looneyville Post Office, and I am not joking. There is also a Lefthand Post Office on Rt.36, always wondered why there wasn't a Righthand also. Our County seat is located in Spencer, (middle of nowhere) which for years was only known for its State Mental Institution. (no Jane Doe this isn't my Alma mater) It was closed years ago and now a Wal-Mart is on that location. I guess the only other thing to speak of would be the Black Walnut Festival which is held in Spencer every October.
  • Posted By: bonn, the simpletonDon't we have a smart earth? She formed herself from a dust cloud, they say and planted herself just the right distance from the sun to support the life she would create. She also filled her insides with molten heat to maintain the right temps and if that builds too much she decides to blow some out holes (volcanoes) to keep from exploding. She makes her own rain, knowing whether she needs a gentle soaking rain for her plants, or a gully washer to cleanse the filth. It pours down the mountains, into the rivers and out into the ocean which she just happened to fill with salt (her natural sanitizer). And she knows if she doesn't have ice she will over heat, but too much and she will freeze, killing her life she so carefully made. So she melts some, then as it heats up, she freezes more. All just coincidental happenings? She is brilliant! But not so smart as the humans who are making a fortune controlling the other dumb humans by convincing them THEY are causing her to do these things!!!

  • Posted By: HteikWell it is nice to see that the war in Iraq is ending under President Obama. Who would have thought, it seems the world is backwards right now, huh? Obama gets elected, the world understands our good will, and all is well. Just like history, Republicans start wars, Democrats finish them. Hate to say we told you so but we told you so, I just get fuzzy inside thinking about all the people that love us now that hated us because of that old Bush. Another thing too, leave this Iran thing alone, that is none of our business. I dont recall anybody from Iran coming over here to help us in 1776 so why should we stick our nose in their business? When you get a strong leader like in Honduras, a good strong leader with a military background, everybody goes nuts because the guy takes things over well I support him and Obama. In fact, some people are so needed we better start now to get rid of the 22nd Amendment, it was only put in by jealous radical extremist crazy Republicans to hurt FDR.
  • Posted By: CraveontruthI don't think I have ever been to Roan County.Nothing against the good people of that neck of the woods.I did enjoy looking it up on wikipedia. Is there really a Looneyville there? If there is then I must visit!Who's with me?
  • Posted By: food for thought2-10 years for almost killing a child? Where are our priorities? I know they are nestled in the mountains or wait lying deep in the ocean waiting for anoother person to adopt them and claim rights to the next whale that is proclaimed Shammu or Willy. Get real people lets protest these laws that allow some cook to wanna kill his child and only have to pay his debt of 2 - 10 years. Oh and Kris your right our God won't kill a 1 yr old or a 100 yr old just do to it. He would do it for his glory and maybe take them from being around a half heartened sadistic person that would do this to a child. Oh i love the lights and the A/C and my car, but most of all I love my GOD "Jehovah God" whom i think first and foremost for all I have, then i thank a coal miner and an AEP worker and a so on and so on.

  • Posted By: RoaneCo.Bonn, people like you are the very reason I have stated that I respect ones right of freedom of religion. Although I have different views, I have no issues with anyone going to church and trying to live according to their interpretation of the bible. I think that is wonderful. I also thank you Bonn for being open minded and seeing the point I was trying make. And for Anonymous on Jul 1, 2009 at 03:11 PM, no Craveontruth and I are not the same person. We do agree on some issues, and disagree on others. And when we do disagree (speaking for myself of course) we do it without anger. Also, for Bob... sorry, it isn't working. I have a two year old that comes up with better jabs than you. But I respect your right to try.
  • Posted By: SophieJust a few comments on current Yells: Big Earl - I just can't read you anymore because it's the same things over & over. Yeah, we're with you - there are a bunch on weed-o's coming around these days trying to shut us down for the sake of some owl...We get it. We all hate it. Roane Co/Jane -It appears Roane has been very hurt in their lifetime by family conflict involving belief. Many people get hurt because of superstition & misinterpretation and overzealousness. It has been this way since time began. I hope Roane can someday get past the hurt & retoric to work out his/her own salvation. Simple belief in Jesus Christ is where it starts, the rest as I put it, is just "gravy". Jane: I'm sorry your child was hurt. This indeed must be reported. I got hurt @ CP one time too on "The Whip". It beat me so hard against the side I had a major bruise on my hip. I strained my arms trying to keep from slamming into the side. A fun thing was not so fun. No rides for me, anymore. Not there.

  • Posted By: Big EarlHello good people of WV this is Big Earl and I for one am sick and tired of all these out of state know it all nosey people bothering us if it is not these smelly hippies trying to run our jobs off or rename the WVU mascot now they are calling the good citizens of WV fat. Well people I am here to tell you that this bunch at the so called CSPI and no you hippies I don’t mean the TV show calling us fat should look in the mirror they look like something off night of the living dead pasty faced scarecrows and beanpoles and what is so great about that. WV has some of the best staple foods anywhere in the world I have eaten paotatoes beans meat flour and corn meal all my life cooked in lard and I am not one bit worse off for it and can mine coal with anybody. People all the good foods we eat are natural growed in the garden or on the farm so it should even make a tofu eating hippie type happy. I am more bothered that two states beat us out in the race for the top so I tip my hat to the people of the great states of Alabama home of the best country music band ever and Mississippi but people of WV get busy we have to reclaim our title to best fed in the USA I recommend the Kentucky Fried Chicken with gravy and biscuits as a good place to start our comeback.
  • Posted By: RoaneCo.Actually Jane Doe, growing up I did attend church and read the bible. Being subjected to religion for many years I would not consider myself "confused" or uneducated. If one looks at organized religion with an open mind it isn't hard to see who is confused. For example, you have one bible yet there are numerous religious groups ( methodists, baptists etc...) that believe their interpretation is the only correct interpretation. This is understandable because the bible itself is very contradictive. In my opinion the the bible and organized religion is nothing more than a tool created to control the masses. Yet this tool has pitted man against man, brother against brother, state against state and country against country, not to mention the wars, death and destruction it has caused. I have witnessed in my lifetime many family fueds, broken marriages and busted churches at the hands of organized religion. I have heard the words of hate spoken by christians. I am not confused.

  • Posted By: bonnTo Jane Doe: I am afraid RoaneCo's common sense is more attractive than your comments. Read your last post at 8:58 and see if it shows the Light you are suppose to give. We are suppose to control our anger. Yes, we are forgiven, but it is not a license to keep repeating our faults. It is mercy so we can improve. Viciousness does not become a child of God. RoaneCo., may God forgive us for driving you and others away from Him with our failure to shine the Light of Love. And Jane Doe, I am the one you called ignorant just because I was showing compassion (another expectation of a Christian). It is scary about your child. But that person was not attacking your child, nor joking about it, only disapproving of your outburst. Not very attractive in anyone, especially one called to set an example for others to follow. If you must get angry, use it to accomplish something good. Christians are hated enough WITHOUT cause. Love is the answer.

Republicans were overwhelmingly against the measure, arguing it would destroy jobs in the midst of a recession while burdening consumers with a new tax in the form of higher energy costs. And there was plenty to work on in a House-passed measure that pointed toward higher electricity bills for the middle class.Budget Office and the other from the Environmental Protection Agency — that suggested average increases would be $175.00 a year.

How did that happen? Certainly not carbon emissions. Use some common sense and realize people are using this to line their pockets and gain support for their pet projects. What I don't care for is someone like Jane Doe on here week after week preaching her little sermons all the while calling people ignorant and showing her hostility toward others. It has always amazed me how most christians will belittle someone else but the minute you catch them being unchristian like they always come up with the old "we christians ain't perfect". Well I know they are not, but by golly they are the first to judge everyone else. These hyporcitical self proclaimed christians are one of the reasons I turned away from organized religion years ago. I just don't agree with these people shoving religion on everyone else. I respect Jane Does right to religion and I would even fight for her to keep that right, but she, like so many others need to keep their religion in their church and their home.
  • Posted By: Big EarlWell hello again good working coal mining families in WV this is Big Earl and I for one am very disappointed that this cap and trade bill got passed into law the other day no thanks to our good representatives from WV. People all I can say is get a woodpile and a bunch of cow chips because your electric is going to get real expensive real quick. These hippies has run up to Washington DC and boo hooed to them tree huggers and longhairs in the EPA until they got even worse done to our jobs but then again what do you expect from a bunch that has a leaf from a dope plant on there sign like the EPA does if you don’t believe me look on this very website I seen a picture of it. Birds of a feather flock together that’s why the good working people were kept out and not allowed to talk at that hearing and the hippies let in. People these hippies has slandered our great state and coal miners first they bring in professor moonbeam from NASA to insult us then he tucks his tail and runs back to NASA and wont debate Mr. DB then they attack our state university mascot the WV mountaineer. Well people I Big Earl have a solution to this lets call WV the “Ivory Soap State,” make our mascot a bathtub that’s a sure fire way to get rid of these smelly hippies and longhairs and keep them out forever.
  • Posted By: MEWe christians are most always judged by our actions and that is to be expected since we are not perfect in any way. We all make mistakes every day,we get angry,we say things we shouldn't and act out our frustrations sometimes to those closest to us and our friends. We try to do better and ask forgiveness when we do stumble from our christian path. Actions speak louder than words at times, good or bad. Yes we adults act like children at times and children try to act like adults all too soon. We never know who we are influenceing with our actions and words so we need to always try to act,say and do what is right. As long as we are on this earth we will stumble but we should strive to be the best we can be and treat people with love and respect no matter how we are treated. I have turned the cheek many times and been slapped alot and will keep on doing it as long as I breath. My time will come soon enough to be judged as to the way I have lived and treated people.

You too, are responsible for making him appear as a person to be looked up to. He and others in entertainment and sports are not what the children need, they need moral examples to look up to, please stop the glorification of immoral and indecent individuals.
  • Posted By: food for thoughtTo those of you telling me to watch out for Fox news, please go back and read carefully what I said about the media and the government. I thank each of you for your information. I am not out to attack anyone whether acclaimed or the average joe. I just know what I have read from reports and from different sites. This information is what our scientists, meteorologists and so forth use in reference to report the records of weather and temperatures. Again thank each of you, and at last Fox news was the channel the fine people at our local (American made) dealership had channeled on the tube, personally I just watch WSAZ, at the local level.
  • Posted By: Roane Co., why are you not concerned about the safety of small children at amusement parks?
  • Posted By: HtiekRight on Kris you tell em about Fox News. Everyone that watches knows that the dependable networks are ABF, Anyone But Fox. I am just like everyone else in the know, they lie all the time but please dont press me to cite anything specific as I am having coffee right now. I am new to your side, so pardon me if I get something confused. Those photographs of the ice caps are proof positive as far as I am concerned, these flat earth types that dont believe global warming should compare them to the satellite picutres from the colonial period and over the years since for comparison purposes. I once heard the hottest year on record was in the 1930s but what does that prove. And before one of you know it alls talks about Al Gore riding everywhere in a private plane and having such a huge house and running a company that profits from selling carbon credits, some people in life earn their special privileges simply by showing up and enlightening the rest of us, so there.

  • Posted By: RoaneCo.After you finish showing your true colors, go back and read my post again Jane Doe. Better yet let me cut and paste it for you. "I do hope your little girl is ok. I have children of my own, I know how precious they are." And just for the record, I would never "make fun" of a child, but don't think for one second that I won't point out an adult being hypocritical. Are you not the same Jane Doe that three weeks ago was preaching about God, then in the same breath calling someone "IGNORANT"? So let me say it one more time, I hope your little girl is ok. As for you, thank you for proving once again how kind, loving, patient and understanding some of you fine christians can be.
  • Posted By: KrisThis respectfully goes out to "food for thought" for what they said about fox news and global warming.FOX has great movies and tv shows but their view when it comes to the "news" is so far on the "right" way of thinking that it totally obscures reality in their opions of the subject at hand. They'll twist their views to make sure that it is opposite of "liberals" or people on the "left" and how they feel about the subject.Asf or global warming, we have actual time lapsed pictures of the polar caps melting at an alarming rate. You can actually see it happening. If things are cooling down, then why are the polar caps and icebergs melting at an alarming rate? The evidence is right in front of our faces. I sure do hope you're right because if I am, our planet is doomed. Sincerely, Kris

  • Posted By: Big EarlWell hello again good working coal miners of WV this is Big Earl and people I have come to the conclusion that we need some friends in Washington DC that has got some clout. Some people up there has got big names but nobody apparently listens to, that is if they show up at all in court to help you out, those who are sick are excepted. Then there are some people in Charleston who should be in Washington who shall remain unnamed because nobody in Gov. Joes office asked me to say that. But remember who had that bunch from FEMA down here handing out checks before two weeks after the flood water hit and figure out who has clout. You people that went up for the hearing last week should be thanked but the good people never got to say a word but these hippies did, they are apparently now running around the creek with microscopes looking for fish that cant be seen with the eye, something called a microbe, now they are blaming the coal miner for killing off this worthless animal and I sincerely hope Captain D or old Long John will never put some slop like that on my plate when I want good seafood. If you dont see it it cant be of no good use anyway, sort of like a certain US senator with a big rich name who was nowhere to be seen last week.

Have any of you people in Huntington ever lost a chicken to a wild dog. Even these back to nature types and hippies up here in Boone County tie up there dog to guard there dope patches but they don’t have no sense anyway if they aint going to Washington DC to try and rook us out of our jobs by carrying signs and yelling about some invisible fish that is no good to anybody they are screaming about the coal miner killing polar bears and other animals that don’t even live here. Apparently this bunch had the bright idea to go down to the park on Sunday down in Huntington when people was out with there families trying to walk around and enjoy things and they chained themselves to trees with real dog chains trying to get people to sign a protest petition to of all people a mayor named Wolf now I don’t know about you but that mayor better forget the beware of dog sign he needs to put a beware of the PETA nut sign up in that park.
  • Posted By: The Seeker@food for thought: It is indeed important to check facts, and it heartens me to see that you're of the type that actively seeks them (even thought I fall on the side of the debate that believes in climate change, as it has solid science behind it). However, I caution you on taking anything from FOX news at face value. This is an organization that in 2000 won a case in Florida appeals court in which the court ruled that FOX has no obligation to tell the truth to it's viewers, and can misinform the public under the first amendment. This is also an organization that has been proven to have an agenda, and frames every bit of it's coverage to favor one political party over the other. My advice is to seek out less obviously biased news sources, especially in cases such as global warming, which is an issue that transcends political parties and affects every being on the planet.

I could go on. We definately are not tourist friendly in the great ohio valley area.
  • Posted By: foor for thoughtLooks like my comment on June 24th may be right. I have done some reading about this Global warming fad the government is putting on. I was sitting in a local car dealership and FOX news was reporting on the government sitting or "burying" studies by two of the highest ranking EPA officials contradicting this myth. Some of the comments from their studies proves the Global temperature if anything has decreased. Although, you should be skeptical about anything the media reports especially when it involves the government these are facts that have been recorded over time. I ask how come when these bozos as Dr. Hansen whom is from NASA(which has done innumerable amounts of damage to our air with their testing) never mention facts as these when trying to prove things they are claiming is a fact. People we in America have became lazy in seeking the truth, I am not disputing anything these scientists and the government tells us, but as we learned in elementary school check facts of both sides.

  • Posted By: ValorieAbout four weeks ago, I sent a letter to Camden Park with a friendly suggestion to open the park to the casual visitor again. As of today, I still haven't had a response from them. There used to be a small fee for admission to anyone who just wanted to visit. Once inside the park, a visitor could buy a corn dog or pay to play a few games or ride a few rides. Now people have to pay a full admission price for all day rides, even when they don't plan to stay all day. A lot of people are grandparents who just want to watch their grandchildren ride for an hour or two. Some are young parents with small children who tire easily. As empty nesters, my husband and I would like to drop by to get a bite to eat, play some games or just walk around. Everyone I have spoken to said they would visit Camden Park a whole lot more if they didn't have to pay the full admission price. I challenge everyone to contact Camden Park and ask them to give the people a choice!

But next time you read of someone else being "furious" or commenting on their personal issues, maybe you should keep your bible quotes to yourself.
  • Posted By: Jane DoeI recently went with my church and my family to Camden Park this past weekend. Me and my 6 year old daughter rode the Spider, We thought it was going to be lots of fun, we were wrong! It was a nightmare! It went on for 10 minutes and was going way too fast! My daughter was terrified and was screaming! I was furious when the man that helped us off asked if she was okay and I said what do you think and he laughed!! I have rode this ride for many years and loved it, But this time I could tell it was different! But then it gets worse, A friend of mine that stayed at the park longer than us informed me that after we left, The spider closed down and said they had crossed wires and the ride was malfunctioning!!! My daughter can't hardly walk today and has a four inch bruise down her back! I'm taking her to the doctor in the morning. If there is something seriously wrong, I will be speaking to the owner and this situation will be takin care of!!!!!
