The West Virginia State Auditor's office has released the 2007 salaries for state employees, and the website offers new search features.
The listing is now searchable by name -- and allows you to sort salaries by department. Last year, visitor's to the site had to download an Adobe Acrobat PDF file and search within that document.
Communications director for State Auditor Glen Gainer's Office says they wanted to make the database easier for end users and reduce the download time.
There are records listed for 66,075 state employees, totaling $1,509,774,134.79.
You'll want to keep in mind that the salaries are pre-tax -- so it's not actually what the employees take home.

How smart are some of the clowns posting on here. They laugh at what state workers make & then complain about the service. Shows that they aren't the brightest bulbs in the box either. You get what you pay for. Perhaps if the state paid better wages, they'd attract more quality people. And of course we know that the ones on here bragging at the mouth are the ones that are really asking you if you want fries with that. We can all be who we want when we hide behind a computer screen can't we.
Many years ago, for a brief time, I was a state employee making a pitiful 17k a year. Since that time, when I began working in the private sector, I now make 70k a year and have excellent benefits because I made the choice to seek better opportunities for myself. In my experience, State workers are some of the least educated and laziest people out there. Complaining about the pay or about it being posted online is pointless because you made the choice to become public servants so shut up and do your jobs. I enjoy a good laugh when I look at the pitiful pay of my former co-workers who still work for the State and think about how the salaries being posted has set off a firestorm of jealousy and anger among state workers. So pathetic.
Why should state workers get all holidays off? They are no better yhan any other worker.
