CHARLESTON, W.Va. --Coal mine operator Massey Energy is planning to put more than $1 million into college and postgraduate scholarships over the next five years.

Richmond, Va.-based Massey says the money will go to Central Appalachian students pursuing degrees in engineering and health care.

Chief Executive Don Blankenship calls Friday's announcement the best investment his company can make in the region because it will help bright students who need financial help achieve a higher education. Blankenship says it also fits the region's needs for medical professionals and mining engineers.

Separately, Massey says it is giving the Logan County Commission $100,000 for projects such as a new sports fields and a swimming pool and pledging another $200,000 over the next two years.

To JuJu It's apparent that you don't have millions because you are jealous.. I'm sure you're a tree hugger too.. Go to a rally somewhere and quit trashing the good things that are being for the youth of Southern WV.

Well, once again, Don Blankenship pulls the wool over the eyes of the people of Appalachia. All you have to do is watch how things go and you can see what is being done. This is damage control. Everytime Massey or Don gets in trouble, the ads and money begin to fly. Just watch and you will be able to see clearly.

I got some propaganda from a Blankenship organization about lawsuit abuse. It called Menis Ketchup a "menace." The true menace is a coal baron who vacations with a state Supreme Court Justice. Justice will be served come Tuesday.
