CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Some very strong storms moved through eastern Kentucky, southeast Ohio, and West Virginia Sunday morning, causing serious damage.

Tens of thousands of homes and businesses are without power, including more than 10,000 in Kanawha County alone, according to Appalachian Power's website.

Several viewers in Carter County, Kentucky, have contacted WSAZ to report a possible tornado touchdown. We have not been able to confirm it yet, but dispatchers tell us that's a possbility -- and that the entire area around Pleasant Valley and Route 182 is shut down.

There have also been many reports of trees and power lines down.

this goes out to all you ignorant people who don't know what it's like for a family to struggle in this heat watching your kids stare out the windows hoping their electricity is restored soon,after 24 hours losing food that does not come cheap.Before you judge us with your liitle absurd comments, take a look in the mirror and think what if I were old enough to have children and walk a mile in our shoes instead of relying on your rich mommy and daddy all the time I agree with the ones who post or have posted the saying "grow up!!!!" because the fact is you don't care and the reasons for your lunacy is because your parents turn you into brats suck on that a while turds!!!

we have been without power since 11am sunday morning. Trees were falling down everywhere here at Lick Branch,and surrounding places. you would cut one out of the road and the next thing you knew there were 2 more in its place. It was scary.

its been 21 hours since we have had power, i have learned that i wouldnt make a very good pioneer woman,lol. i pray they get the power back on soon.

This comment is for Anonymous. I think that it is so sad that you can make the comments but you don't have the guts to list your name. I guess you don't want anyone to know how immature you are. I bet you make your mother proud! NOT!! I went to Grahn Elementary, grew up on Goose Creek and proud of it. My heart goes out to all the families that lost their homes and their properties.

My brother lives in Glynn Co. Georgia and he had called me yesterday morning to wish me a Happy Mother's Day & he said strong storms was all around & then all of a sudden he said had to go to the storm shelter then he was gone. He called me back later and said they were OK. Thank God for watching over my brother and his family. They have lived there for years and yesterday was the first time they had to seek refuge in the storm shelter. A tornado did infact touch down in Glynn Co.

WHy are you as a reputable news organization printing all the snide remarks about the Grahn area and it's people? As an emergency responder on the scene, I can tell you it was a traumatic experience for these people and should not be taken lightly. I hope the people that have nothing good to say about the area come to visit us and learn how to treat others. God Bless them for they certainly need a lesson in life.

We live on Route 986 or Bens Run in Olive Hill. It tore the roof off my dad's tack room on his barn, downed lots of trees and drove a 2x6 into the ground two grown men could'nt pull it out of the ground. Will probably need a truck or tractor to pull it out.

I live at the end of goose creek that wasnt effected by the tornado expect we didnt have power until now.there were 7 house damaged and one destoryed and no one was hurt..

I think it is very sad all of the damage that happen at grahn, ky. this morning. i hope they get the pipe operational again, because they will need light to fix all the damage!

i live in point pleasant and we didn't have power for 2- 3 hours today.. we think a tornadoe swept through here...don't know for sure

To anonymous who made the comment about Grahn needing a pipe to get sunshine in, You need to worry about the families that were affected in that area and whether or not anyone was hurt. No one wants to hear snide little comments about a community that is always there for its neighbors. I grew up in Grahn and even though I no longer live there it is still a great place to raise a family.

There was a tornado that swept through Grahn, KY. It left many of the roads blocked for a while. I have not heard how much damage it has done, however I did hear that a tree went through a house. I haven't heard on their condition either. I figured I would find something on here about it though:(!

I live right beside Goose Creek where this tornado had touched down. All my family lives on that road. It's a shame to see this. But My Father and I did roof a house down there, and it's the only roof that wasn't damaged. Quality Storage Buildings - Give us a call 606-286-9132 and ask for Kevin. It's a sad thing.

We drove thru the Grahn area in Carter County, Ky the damage was bad. Power lines were blown down, numerous trees down. Looked like a lot of property damage. One doublewide the roof had been tore off and the sides was falling down. There were a lot of outbuildings affected. I pray that no one was hurt.

we've had quite a rain storm today about 3 storms since this morning & it looks like more coming in again [& I thought I was going to get to do some fishing well I guess not.]

This mornings storm tore up the pipe used to get sunshine into the Grahn area of Carter County. Looks like a dark time ahead. They just got it a few years ago.

Abarn where my brother~n~law used to live was blown down and the trailor was moved 12ft back from the porch. It busted out some of the windows in the trailor. It also turned the trailor a bit. Trees were down all over the place on Dry fork Rd.

While in morning church services we had extremely hard winds and rains, along with nickel to quarter size hail. On our way to lunch w/our mother, we noticed a trailer at Borderland which had been blown off of its foundation and was sitting right beside the block foundation on which it formerly stood. Oh the wild weather of Spring!

This morning's storm cause 2 trees to fall into a transformer and onto my fathers Ford Explorer which was parked by the electric pole. The top limbs of the trees landed on the explorer busting out the back glass, cracking the windshield and cause several dents. The electric crew has not responded yet.

we just had a strom moving throu Logan today & knock out power for a good 2 yr's or more today & looks like more rain coming in.
