HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ)-One church in Huntington had some unexpected guests this Mother's Day. Senator Hillary Clinton and her daughter Chelsea spent the morning worshipping and celebrating at First United Methodist Church.

Cindy Legg, a member of First United, tells wsaz.com that seeing the presidential candidate in her church was a surprise. " We had no idea that she was gonna be here and we started seeing a little buzz with the secret service...and it was like wow Hillary's gonna be here, and it was really special to have her daughter here with us too."

After the service church members and visitors got the opportunity to speak face to face with the presidential candidate.
Shirley Kincaid tells wsaz.com what she told the candidate. "I wanted to thank her for choosing our church, and I wanted to give her a blessing to continue her vision that she had for our country.
'and did you have the chance to do that' Yes, yes and I was thrilled."

It was a day celebrated by mothers everywhere...even one running for president of the United States.

I was in church with my family on Mother's Day. Sen. Clinton and her daughter did not address the congregation. They attended the worship service and greeted us after the service. My girls were thrilled to have their picture taken with the first viable female presidential candidate. My husband is a Republican, my oldest daughter loves Obama and I voted for Hillary. However, we all agreed that Hillary's visit was an historic event that we were proud to be part of. I don't understand the comments of many viewers and feel sorry that some of them would wish to close the doors of their church to anyone who would want to enter. I believe the members of our church would have welcomed Obama or McCain as they welcomed Hillary. As for the remark that cameras were there, press travels with all of the candidates wherever they go. I don't think church lady is a member of FUMC. I attend church weekly and do not recall a "holy spirit" filled revival last fall.

Great comment Mary! Church Lady, I am a happy person as well. And for those of you who think it would be smart to vote for McCain if Obama is the nominee, well he is tied to several not-so-nice dictators and his "spiritual adviser" Rod Parsley has said that America was founded on the basis to DESTROY Islam. Hmmm... that sounds a little hateful and untrue. This country was not founded on religion. Maybe you should read something other than your bible and christian websites.

Posted by: Concerned on May 15, 2008 at 02:51 AM
Apparently most of West Virginians agree with Church Lady. In the exit polls 51% of Democrats said they would vote for McCain in the fall if Obama gets the nomination. 49% also said that race was an issue to them when deciding on who to vote for. So Jenifer and Mary, you can act holier than thou if you want but the numbers don't lie. The majority of West Virginians are uneducated, hateful, bigots.

HaHaHaHaHaHaHa. Yes..EVERYTHING on the internet is always true. Hang on....still busy laughing.....

Posted by: Mary on May 14, 2008 at 06:16 PM
To the Church Lady: To answer your first post, I am a very happy person. I also happen to be a happily married heterosexual mother of three. While I enjoy a little frisky sex with my hubby from time to time, I hardly consider myself a Sodomite. Comparing Jennifer (whom I do not know) and me to the Sodomites is just as asinine as your other posts. To address your 2nd uneducated post, it is NOT called the “internet pc” and the “world wide web” is NOT always telling you the truth! I do not get your comment about “soy beans and granola” at all, unless that was your “clever” way of calling me a liberal. Below you will find excerpts from a dictionary that defines the word liberal. Please read them. *favorable to progress or reform *favorable to concepts of maximum individual freedom *favoring or permitting freedom of action *free from prejudice or bigotry; tolerant, open minded *characterized by generosity and willingness to give in large amounts; given freely or abundantly.

Posted by: Church Lady on May 14, 2008 at 10:51 AM
And for your information I got the Obama information on the internet pc. Ever heard of it? Some call it the world wide web because it doesn't lie. I even saw a picture of Obama not saluting the flag. Maybe you should get with technology and quit spending your money on soy cheese and granola. In WV we eat deer meat and beans. Bill and Hillary worked hard to get where they are and they weren't funded by Hamas like some other candidates. I won't mention any names though.

Posted by: Church Lady on May 14, 2008 at 10:46 AM
Jennifer and Mary sound bitter. I know another group of people in history who were bitter--the Sodomites. Praise the lord!

Posted by: M on May 14, 2008 at 09:07 AM
I absolutely agree with you, Mary. The comments below are disgusting. I am so embarrassed by the level of ignorance our state has so publicly exhibited during this election.

Posted by: Kathy S on May 14, 2008 at 07:11 AM
Praise the Lord FOR Jennifer and Mary! THANK YOU guys for putting into words EXACTLY how I feel too. People like her & all the other "Bible thumpers" who tell you to your face that if you don't attend "THEIR" church, you're bound straight for hell are what drove me from any church or organized religion too. People like her are so bigoted against anyone who doesn't fit THEIR idea of "right"...they're racists, their bigots and hate gay people, women who have abortions, the people who perform abortions, people who dare to even breathe differently from them. Well God is about LOVE & FORGIVENESS to me, not HATE! People like her are too stupid to see that these politicians use church & veterans etc as photo ops. Bill Clinton & Dubya are always photographed coming OUT or going INTO a church with their Bibles in hand, funny how the media is always "there" cameras in hand isn't it? There was good old Christian Hills & Chelsea singing & clapping & by gosh there was MEDIA

Posted by: Mary on May 14, 2008 at 12:05 AM
Amen, Jennifer! Amen! The "Church Lady" and "christians" like her are the very reason I quit going to church a long time ago. Faith, love, and understanding are in one's heart, not in a building filled with hate.

Posted by: Jennifer on May 13, 2008 at 07:34 PM
Church Lady You are going to want to pray for me after you read this because you are the epitome of idiocy! I'm fine with you going to church and being excited to see Hillary but to make false and biased statements about Obama is being very hypocritical of your so called Christian faith! If Obama did show up at your church you probably would have tripped over your own jaw that had hit the floor because he dared to step one foot in a place so holy! Pool is not the devil's game but being a hypocrite sure as hell doesn't get you a front row ticket into seeing God in heaven. You turn your back on the flag by slandering not only your fellow Christian but also your fellow American. His middle name "Hussein" was passed onto him by his father before the "Butcher of Baghdad" was even in the public eye! What does Hawaii being closer to Japan have to do with anything? You are voluntarily hateful, ignorant, and disrespectful to not only this state, but this country and the Christian religion!

Posted by: a reader on May 13, 2008 at 06:52 PM
How do you know Hillary personally supports abortion and gay rights? I have not heard her say those words. I have heard her say she supports the rights of gay people and supports a woman's right to choose. That is a huge difference. Read the Constitution. Hillary supports the Constitution and our Constitution guarantees women's rights and equal rights for all.

Posted by: Church Lady on May 13, 2008 at 05:21 PM
Hillary sat on the side of the church I did. I was three seats back. She's what this country needs. A strong mother and wife. She takes her child to church with her too. They looked lovely. You could feel the excitement when she showed up. It was almost like the holy ghost filled revival we had last fall. I know she's been on the road a lot, but I didn't notice her dosing off at all during the slightly long-winded sermon. Obama didn't even come to church, he was busy playing pool (the devil's game) in Charleston with his Muslim friend, Rahall. He turns his back on the flag, has been endorsed by Iran and Hezbollah and has the middle name Hussein. I would never vote for anyone named after the Butcher of Baghdad. Some argue that he was born in Hawaii. Well, you know that Hawaii is closer to Japan than the U.S. Ever heard of Pearl Harbor? Praise the Lord and vote for Hillary!

Posted by: John on May 13, 2008 at 05:12 PM
I have not seen where her soul was in judgement. Judge not lest you be judged was written about judging ones soul as to saved vs. unsaved. Her Actions, not her soul, are what is being judged. You will know them by their fruits. If she believed that all blue eyed people should be killed would you say it was wrong to say that belief is wrong? If so, you are so open minded that your brain is falling out. Abortion is a business. It is a for profit venture. It is a big moneymaker. The number of abortions that are performed each year in the US due to rape is miniscule.

A church who follows Jesus welcomes anyone. Good for you FUMC. God is who you answer to, don't worry about jealous remarks. Paul perscuted Christians before his Demascus Road experience. God can change anyone. We should pray for the canidates

Posted by: anon on May 13, 2008 at 01:38 PM
i am not a supporter of abortion, but i do beleive it is a womans right to choose, especially if that woman is a 12 year old girl who has been raped.

Posted by: anonymous on May 13, 2008 at 01:36 PM
You people should be ashamed of yourselves. Any christian who does not feel proud that Hilary attended church on sunday is not truely a christian. Regardless of who she is, she is a person. Any one could walk into my church and they would be welcomed with open arms. Being a christian is not about passing judgement on why people come to church. It is not your place to judge anyone. It is not your place to speak out aginst her or her beliefs. God is the only one who should judge her. And the fact that you people take the time to judge her about her beliefs definatly says something about yours. Maybe you should spend more time in church, instead of speaking badly about the ones who do. I will continue to pray for all of you hypocrites.

Posted by: Methodist_Churches_Support_Liberals on May 13, 2008 at 11:35 AM
Methodist churches are not what they used to be. Perhaps she attended the one who's so called pastor had the American flag removed. Yes this happened in Huntington. I wouldn't even call this place a church. They have changed their views so much. They now allow women to be so called preachers, they support abortion and allow gays as members. Do you people not know that to be a member of a church you have to be saved! Gay people are not saved. If they were saved then they wouldn't be gay any more.

Posted by: Jennifer on May 13, 2008 at 10:56 AM
Would this church have welcomed Obama if he had decided to show up unexpectedly? From the sound of some of your comments, probably not.

Posted by: Anon1234566788987654 on May 13, 2008 at 12:03 AM
She was going to church but she supports abortion and gay rights.... I think she was there for votes.

Posted by: Bill on May 12, 2008 at 10:29 PM
I woould rather see a drunk off the street come in church than Hillary. I think John made some good points. Does your church support abortion? Do you support those who do? Perhaps the FUMC members could elaborate.

Posted by: a reader on May 12, 2008 at 09:11 PM
The FUMC member's comment was right on. Spoken like a truly good person.

Rockefeller got sucked right in for his own good,he endorsed a Hamas supporter,a man whose preacher hates America, associated with the Black Panthers,WV please do not vote for Rockefeller or Wise...they act as though their smarter and know what is best for you, like the majority is stupid........you have a vote, show those rich sob's how we do it in WV!!!

To the reader commenting on the car with a mother's day present inside being towed and costing the owner $120.00: The magic word was "you heard". That's what is wrong with this whole election. No one is thinking on their own. Just because "you heard" the car was towed doesn't make it so. Would someone please get the correct facts and post them here.

Posted by: reader on May 12, 2008 at 09:00 PM
Condemning Hillary Clinton for going to church. What a shame. At least she went to a church that preaches about love and God instead of sitting in a church for 20 years and listening to anti white hatred. Oh yes, Obama said he never heard any of those sermons.

Posted by: Jeebus on May 12, 2008 at 08:17 PM
Verily verily I say unto you: Don't vote for Clinton.

Posted by: L. Hedrick on May 12, 2008 at 06:31 PM
I just want to say what a dissapointment our Senator is for not waiting for his state to choose their Demacratic candidate before he decides to back Obama, he has certainly lost my vote, as well as many others...

What a coincidence that cameras were there. What a big surprise! Have you ever noticed that politicians go to the biggest churches around so that they can be seen by all? WWJD? He wouldn't vote for Hillary, that's for sure.

In my opinion, Wv has shown the country why they continue to lag behind. Please, have people forgotten Nafta, and the sell out of our county by the Clintons to China. Why do people think all of their jobs are gone? Also, have they forgotten the embarrasment Bill Clinton caused this country? I suppose racism is higher on their list for chosing a nominee. I cannot begin to explain my outrage of the govern. He had an excellent opportunity to help Wv try to move beyond the racial divide. Instead, he feed into biased media. Oh yes, I am a christian, born in West Virginia.

FUMC member, I think anyone who lets a woman who hugs a known terrorist(Yassir Arafat) and his wife enter their church and grandstand, even if it was not from the pulpit, has serious character flaws. Campaigning does not have to be done from the pulpit for it to be questionable. I do attend church, I do follow the teachings of Christ. I SUPPORT ISRAEL ! I despise anyone who supports and abides terrorists, and those who would turn a blind eye to what the Arab nations are doing. Does your Pastor support the wholesale murder of the unborn? Hillary does. She has stated her support of abortion many times over the years. The Democrats have abortion as one of their party planks. Where do you stand? How will you answer when you stand before God. I made no judgement of your church or pastor. I questioned their actions and associations. I made no judgement of their soul. Judge not lest you be judged refers to ones soul. Not their actions. I have no desire to enter your church if you abide such.

It doesn't matter who wins. Read some of these comments and you'll realize we need a lot more to change than the president. When we an overload of idiots in society the President can't do much. The internet has let all the idiots be heard.

Posted by: Rhonda on May 12, 2008 at 10:38 AM
I hope Hillary doesn't read these comments. People already believe West Virginians are ignorant and the comments posted below make perfect ammunition for them.

Posted by: FUMC Member on May 12, 2008 at 10:01 AM
Amen for the other member. I would like to know what church John attends-apparently they only let in people who have never or do not sin!!?? We invite all people who want to come to our church to come and visit. If you remember Jesus associated with many people who alot of others at that time did not approve of, he wanted to show the world that his teachings include everyone-no matter their status-Jesus accepted everyone, but not everyone accepted him-I guess that is still true today.

Do people not see what is going on in this country. Obama has no experience. He comes from a strong Muslim background. We all, as humans, will defend our heritage. We need to quit being political correct and wakeup. Hillary at least has basically 8 years of presidential experience. She is much more prepared for the office than Osama. Also, Michelle Obama seems to have a boulder and not a chip on her shoulder. She clearly does not love being American. She did say this is the first time in her life she is proud to be an American. Anyone that would say something that dumb should move out of our great country.

She left church and went to the Marshall Club later and threw down a shot of whiskey and had a beer chaser but not on TV this time. What a woman, all things to all people!Make me wonder,is it all lies?

Posted by: FUMC Member on May 12, 2008 at 05:04 AM
To John @ 10:32pm - No she didn't do any campaigning during church, she did not get up & speak during the service. She & Chelsea were kind enough to stay after the service, just as many people in the church do every week, and talk about anything the members of the church wanted to talk about. She spoke to my mother about where Bill, my mom's favorite Clinton, was on Sunday. John this is an open invitation to you to come to FUMC & see for yourself that we are a great church. So until you come & see for yourself, DO NOT JUDGE MY CHURCH OR MY PASTOR. Pastor Paul is no Rev. Wright (Nobama's pastor), he is a good man & has nothing to be ashamed of, especially allowing someone into the church. John, do you even attend or belong to a church? Would you be all up in arms if the drunk of the street came into our church? I hope not, because we accept everyone, even you.

You poor people need to realize Obama is the anti-christ. He was raised by terrorists. DUH. Let's vote for Hillary. So what if a car was towed. You don't think that Obama wouldn't have done the same thing. Your highly mistaken. Its okay. Vote him in. Just get in a church.

Mike - once again, I sure hope you NEVER need the assistance of law enforcement - why don't you shut your mouth, go through the police academy and live the life they live - oh that's right you don't want a job where you have to put your life on the line every day. You probably sit at home all day every day writing stupid comments on here. Put up or shut up!

I am a loyal Republican who supports President Bush and supports John McCain to be our next President. However, I have honestly no problem with Hillary. I think the DEMS messed it up by going for the "fad" that is Obama. I hope we will all smart up and vote McCain this November. Remember Obama is Nobama

Did Hillary do any campaigning? If so the IRS should pull the tax exempt status of that church. The pastor should be ashamed to let a woman who stands against most christian beliefs, enter the church. Will the pastor be helping perform abortions, marry gays, shoot at Israel, and lie every chance he or she gets?

yea what clinton did today would sway me from voting for her (as if i would any ways, been a loyal obama supporter from the beginning).....goin to church, goin to grafton, making speeches on a day that all the other politicians apparently honored but her...kind of ticks me off that she did that. she shouldnt be a president---20 mil in debt on her campaign, been in the red the last month, negative tactics from teh beginning when obama has done nothing negatively against her (at least w ads on tv and radio) he has been supportive of her and has said she is a strong candidate but she pulls out stupidity on him...thats the pres i want let me tell ya--one who cant solve her own debt problem takin on the nations debt---

I heard that one of the members of that church had their car towed to make way for Hillary's motorcade. When he walked out of church not only was his car gone, but also his mothers day present which was inside the car.The church member also has to pay $120.00 to get the car out of impoundment.Obama has gained one more vote.
