CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- It sounds like something out of a movie, but it turns out it's just more senior pranks at George Washington High School in Charleston.

Friday was the last day of school for seniors.

A spokesperson with Kanawha County Schools tells WSAZ.com some students released white mice and cicadas in the school, but the animals were quickly caught.

Students also cut a hole in the side of a car, placed a tree in the middle of it and spray painted its hood.

We're also told some students spent all year stealing about 30 clocks from inside the school and hung them outside Friday.

School officials are still investigating and no word if the pranksters will be punished.

We're told the school was not damaged.

School Administrators say despite the prank, classes went on as usual Friday.

Where's the news about the senior prank at Winfield? I understand it went beyond a prank into pure vandalism. When did this " senior prank" stuff start? It is not funny, innocent or cute. Even pranks must be cleaned up by someone and I can guarantee it won't be the little darlings that did it.

What hasn't been discussed is that there were officers at the school the night before to monitor the students as they put their pranks in place. Why were they there?? Because the administration knew the pranks were going to take place and what the pranks were and sent to officers there to monitor the students and to make sure they didn't do anything that hadn't been approved by the administration. My son was there that night as students were let into the building by the officers only a few at a time to set up their pranks and then we he got to school the next day most of the stuff had already been cleaned up.

Why are there no pictures of this... I think this is sooo funny!! Leave these kids alone they are just having fun.

I just want to clarify that the car was not vandalized, it was donated. And to everyone who thinks we are a school of rich kids you need to get a reality check. Yeah, there are rich kids at our school with doctor and lawyer parents but the vast majority of students come from middle class homes and just happen to be in the district for the school bus. So next time you call us snobs look at yourselves-you are judging an entire body of students based on a few. This is the kind of misinterpretation that lead people to go insane about the supposed vandalism. Three kids shot paintballs the night before without anyone's knowledge-not planned! And hardly any of the seniors even knew about the animals.

I'm from the old school and still think this is funny. Lighten up, folks

What idiot pays to buy a car just to mess it up on school property? What kind of a prank is that? The real joke is, you actually spent that much money to let a whole lot of people know you're a fool.

like other people below have said, the car was NOT vandalized, it was purchased just for this. and the clock prank was actually helping the school - all new, nicer clocks are being purchased for the school. the animal part went too far, but that was just a few students. i really dont think its fair to say gw was "vandalized"

Old pranks! These kids have watched MTV to much! Try coming up with your own next time! Be original!

Posted by: GW Student on May 17, 2008 at 09:59 AM
We released roosters and pigeons and none were harmed!! Why does it matter if the car was spray painted, it was of no use to anyone anyway, it couldn't run! So for once how about everyone stop picking on GW how about somone go and send drug dogs at Cap, or So. Chas. and see what happens, go report on the senior pranks they did!! This article you all wrote was a complete waste of time!!

Our senior class never went that far to play a senior prank- I graduated in 2002 from GW. I quess SOME seniors are disrespectful and I am sorry for their families....

I don't see anything wrong with this. They didnt damage the school, the car was gave for this purpose. You hear about so many schools being damaged by pranks, but seems these certain students gave it alot of thought and made sure nothing was damaged.

Posted by: anon on May 17, 2008 at 02:18 AM
Thanks for the clarification. The news is misleading. My opinions is now changed. it is now funny. However, the mice release was too far though.

The car is a little much. The other things are pranks but vandalizing the car is a criminal act.

Posted by: Anonymous on May 17, 2008 at 12:19 AM
... the car was a broken down piece of junk donated by a student. the tree was not damaged. wsaz needs to get their facts straightened out. the real issue here was the animals released in the school and the disrespectful behavior of SOME GW students. both the clocks and the car would approved by the administration.

Posted by: Anon on May 17, 2008 at 12:07 AM
They also released chickens...one of 'em died...

Posted by: GWHS Student on May 17, 2008 at 12:00 AM
What this article doesn't tell you is that we used our senior fund to replace the outdated clocks with brand new atomic clocks. Also, the car was donated by a student; it didn't run, and was purchased for this specific purpose.

Posted by: Anonymous on May 16, 2008 at 11:50 PM
The person donated that car for the senior prank. Also these really weren't that big of a deal. There was no propert damage, so why waste a report on this?

Posted by: Sam on May 16, 2008 at 11:40 PM
they didn't vandalize anyone's car. they bought a junked out car just for that purpose. they have disposable spending money AND creativity.

Posted by: Anonymous on May 16, 2008 at 11:02 PM
i think the part about the clocks is cute..but the car was too far...theyve had this planned all year and i can understand the clocks when my class graduated we played pranks but didnt vandalize n e 1's car thats ridiculous

Posted by: anon on May 16, 2008 at 07:36 PM
That is just going too far. Senior pranks are one thing but this is pure vandalism.

Posted by: Anonymous on May 16, 2008 at 06:23 PM
that is awesome about cutting the hole in a car . I wonder what child's Lawyer Parent will be picked to represent the cars owner? They could just waive the fee and trade for services. Im sure it was a doctor's child that the car was done to. G.W. is a joke . I went there and all they cared about then and care about now is the rich kids. My kids will not go to G.W. they will attend S.C.

Posted by: Anonymous on May 16, 2008 at 05:44 PM
those pranks are lame.

Posted by: mother on May 16, 2008 at 05:20 PM
I guess these kids were from the right side of tracks and the richie rich do not get punished.. glad my child is in a different school system. drugs were found a few months ago with no arrests now property damage cool

  • Idea of gas-tax holiday dies quick death

A gas price sign is shown in McKinney, Texas, Friday, July 18, 2008. Prices at the pump backed away from record highs as oil futures edged up Friday, but crude's gains were modest in comparison to the spectacular three-day drop earlier in the week. The political vision of a summer gas tax holiday died a quick death in Congress, losing to a view that federal excise taxes on gasoline and diesel fuel will have to go up if they go anywhere.
