LAWRENCE COUNTY, Oh. (WSAZ) -- The Lawrence County Sheriff's Office arrested a Rock Hill High School Band Teacher Friday on Sexual Battery Charges.

Scott Jones was put on administrative leave once allegations were brought forth.

After the Lawrence County Sheriff's Officer were contacted by the Department of Children's Services, they did a two day investigation that led to the arrest.

At the time, there are two female teenage victims. The Lawrence County Sheriff's Office is still investigating.

Jones is being held in the Lawrence County Jail and will appear in at the Lawrence County Municipal Court May 19th.

No one likes to think that teir favorite teacher..etc. is capable of manipulating and taking advantage of a minor. It is very real. It sounds like you may be too naive to realize that anyone is capable of anything. Look around you. These people are everywhere.

Just because someone is indicted doesn't mean guilty that just means they will get the trial they deserve.

Posted by: tfws on Jul 18, 2008 at 10:26 PM
or they could report that he has been indicted for sexual abuse. Get real amanda.

Posted by: amanda on Jul 18, 2008 at 10:18 AM
I had Scott as a band director many years ago. He brought us from the bottom to the top winning everything we were at. He is kind and never done anything out of the way. I totally trust that he is innocent and hope it is over soon for everyone. I think that the news should do a report on how wonderful he is and how many students he made have a positive outlook on things.

I think that you guys that are asking for help in Coal Grove need to get your own story going and stop using this comment board to hide behind. If people would stand up for themselves and speak up, things would get done. I also think that Scott Jones is not guilty of this crazy lie, and when it is over these girls should have to pay for all the trouble they have caused. I also think that there is alot of people telling things about this case that is not evidence, and they need to learn to get attention elsewhere.I know if they had enough about them to realize what they are saying could come around and bite them, they would stop.

Guys get over yourselfs, he is an innocient man. One of the girls that claimed that he raped her backed out. Why? because if it came back he didnt she would lose everything and woildn't graduate. For the other one she is so obessed with the man she wouldn't give him room the breathe. You would think that we would raise our children better. What is this world going to be like because guess what people we are the next generation that will run this country. Teach your children to be better than these two girls. That just have a high school crush on their teacher that took it to the extremes.

What about the Teacher that was found INCONENT in Kentucky, it was 2 young girls, wanted to get back at the Teacher. They should have a Law, that makes the girls, go to the Dention Center, for about 90 days, maybe then this will stop... It is breaking the Law, to lie to a Police Officer, or even the Courts. Why can they just walk away, put a stop to it....

I do know this man and I believe whole-heartedly that he did not do this. And for you people that think you know those girls, they followed him around like lost puppies, one even claimed that her and Mr. Jones were soul mates. P.S. What evidence do they have?

Me and my family support Mr. Jones, my son had Mr. Jones in grade school and we all thought he did wonderful things with the music class. As far as being ashamed about being a student at Rock Hill, I would be far more ashamed about the use of improper grammar and spelling.

I do know this man. I know him well and I have children in band. He would not have done this. These girls do need our prayers because they have started something that is not likely to end soon. I don't think that they meant for it to go this far...maybe just cause an inside stir, but here we are. Scott Jones is a wonderful, trustworthy, CHRISTIAN (yes, that DOES mean something) man. Leave judgement to the court and pray that they are right. Don't just assume the girls innocent until you hear all the evidence (or lack there of).

I DONT KNOW THIS MAN BUT I KNOW PEOPLE WHO DO AND THEY THINK HE DIDNT DO IT WHY DO THEY FIND IT SO HARD TO BELIVE AND NOW THEY ARE STARTING TO SAY IT WAS THOSE GIRLS FAULT COME ON THEY ARE JUST KIDS WHO DIDNT DESERVE THIS JUST THINK WHAT IF IT WERE YOUR DAUGHTERS WHOULD YOU BELIVE IT THEN?JUST BECAUSE YOUR CHILD WASNT ONE OF THEM THANK GOD TONIGHT BECAUSE YOU DONT KNOW WHAT PEOPLE ARE CAPPABLE OF DOING JUST PRAY FOR THE TRUTH AND BOTH FAMILES CAUSE THEY NEED YOUR PRAYERS TONIGHT

Just because he never had sexual contact with you doesn't mean he didn't with them. These girls and their families are amazing people with whom I and many others regard highly. You should not talk about things you know nothing about. People live double lives and no one knows until something like this happens and in this case, there is evidence to support claims or he WOULD NOT have been arrested. My thoughts and prayers are with all involved. PS- PSYCHO is spelled like this.

Posted by: Caleb Ray on May 22, 2008 at 08:01 PM
Okay, so here is what i think. Yeah yeah Mr.Jones was a "Christian" man, that doesn't mean anything. People can appear to be something there not on the outside, but totally different on the onside. So all these people saying "Ohh he's innocent." Let everything unfold and then you can truely say he is or is'nt innocent.

Posted by: Band sudent for 5 years on May 22, 2008 at 06:14 PM
Ok..I think all of you people that dont even have anything to do with Rock Hill or even Know Mr.Jones need to get a life and quit saying he needs to spend time in jail..You dont even Know the kind of person he is..And you deffinatly dont know these girls that your telling to "keep their heads up"..All they want is attention so..There is no way he done this..I have had him for 5 years and he has never in this World said one wrong thing to me..So unless you know him personally keep your mouth shut about him..And as for those girls..You would have to know them..They are both Physcho and were more than likely jealous of each other and had some kind of weird obsession with Mr.Jones..All they want is attention and I hope they both know they better never step foot back in Rock Hill again because I dont know one person out there that likes them the least little bit

I really do beleive there has to be some truth to this story. I would hate to be the parents of the CHILDREN that this adult has messed with. I know one thing if it was my daughter they would not find out if he was guilty or not. I would take it into my own hands. The students and the people at Rock Hill High school does not need this so called role model for todays youth in their district. I say get rid of the sorry excuse for a man. Rock Hill has to much to worry about, let alone a piece of work like that idiot working there. I say fire his sorry behind. I know one thing he sure will be loved in prison. Prisoners has a thing for adults that take advantage of youth.

Posted by: Concerned Citizen on May 21, 2008 at 03:41 PM
After reading all of the comments, I am thoroughly disgusted. Are we as a society telling teachers that it is alright to molest children and children that they are liars for standing up for themselves. All parties involved may be good christian people, but we have learned from previous cases all over the united states that this has no bearing on what one person is capable of. My hearts and prayers go out to all involved. Mr. Jones would not have been arrested if there were not evidence to support the claims. Mere words do not cause arrest. I apologize to the people that have written his praise before me but are we so blind that we would send a molester back into our schools system just because he gets dressed and attends sunday service like the rest of us, like the girls that put their trust into a grown man and teacher, like the children he may have molested in the past and could in the future. I'm certain that if there are two unrelated allegations, there have been more victims!!!!!

I really can't believe the number of comments that this has brought about. Alot of people who don't even know anything about the whole situation are ready to condemn our whole school and teaching staff. I have a daughter in the band and also other family members and these kids are torn apart by all of this. I have told my daughter that you keep your opinions to yourself because words can do alot of damage and the truth will be revealed. No I do not believe Scott Jones would do this, but I will also not persecute the girls either because everyone in this needs our prayers not our angry words and hatred. We have alot of school children that this is having a negative effect on. I still strongly support our school, our teachers and THE PRIDE OF LAWRENCE COUNTY so band students hold your heads up with the pride and dignity that you deserve and the truth one way or the other will come out.

Are you his wife, or maybe you're his mom, because that is a face only a mother could love. And the reason of my comment was to illustrate the point that everyone was saying that the teenage girls had a thing for him, and after seeing his picture, that blows that out of the water. And you tell me "Grow up stupid," but isn't it childish to call others stupid?

Im not sure that this is an appropriate forum to discuss innocence or guilt. It seems to me that this just stirs the emotions of those who have opposing view points. This can only be detrimental to both parties involved. I think its much too soon to point fingers or publicly accolade or condemn anyone involved. This case follows the pattern of similar cases. The victim receives blame and is just exacting revenge or "attention seeking". The perp is lauded as a model citizen and pillar of the church and community. Sometimes accusations are false. Unfortunately, the majority are legitimate. One thing everyone should rember when leaving your children in the care of teachers, neighbors, caregivers, and family: ANY BEHAVIOR IS POSSIBLE FROM ANYONE. As a concerned party I ask that all involved to use logic and reason before speaking out against those who are potential victims in this and other cases.

When I was in high school almost 20 years ago this thing was happening my high school. Everyone knew about it but nothing was said and everything was hush hush. I do not know any of these people but if the girls are throwing themselves at him then you can't RAPE the willing. As for Mr. Jones I pray that this is all a terrible mistake but as a teacher he should not have put himself in a situation where he could be questioned as to his actions. My parents always taught me to not be alone with a man then that does not put me in danger. I am also teaching my daughter these lessons and I think we need to be teaching our children these lessons and then this wouldn't be happening. WHAT IS THIS WORLD COMING TO!

Posted by: Michelle on May 20, 2008 at 04:19 PM
I personally cannot believe that Mr. Jones would do this. I have known Scott since I was a kid. I went to church with him and his family for years. He also was my teacher in High School. He has never been anything but a good and professional man. I hope that all will remember you are INNOCENT untill proven guilty. We Hold Mr.Jones and his family as well as the girls and their family in our prayers.

Scott Jones did graduate from Marshall I believe in 1993. He did his student teaching at RH that year. Then filled in for the assistant band director in 1993-94, when she was on leave. He moved on to Portsmouth East for 94-95 school year. I am not sure about his career afterward.

I am surprised how many people have already decided one way or the other with this case. I am especially surprised at the number of people stating they know for a fact he didn't break any laws.As I stated before, he deserves a fair trail. His family needs our prayers. Yet, we can not decide his innocence based on our own opinions of his character. If that is the case, every criminal will start attending church and claiming innocence because they are a Christian. I was the victim of the manipulation of a teacher when I was in high school. He was a loved and trusted member of society. Unfortunately he still teaches because the members of the community would not allow this man to be prosecuted. My life was shattered. That was over ten years ago, and I am still gathering up the pieces. Everyone is so quick to judge. We need to sit back and let the truth unfold. As for Diamond in the Rough, I applaud your comments. People need to understand the victims' side and molesters do put on a show.

Posted by: Azel on May 20, 2008 at 09:22 AM
The saddest part of all is that this man is marred from here on out if proven innocent.People will always have opinions and comments. And even sadder than that are teachers working there now that have married former students "right out of high school"teachers who have moved to another facility within the district because of allegations and investigations that produced evidence but not enough to convict!

Posted by: Anonymous on May 20, 2008 at 07:29 AM
It must really be frustrating to be smart and live in Rock Hill, and have to deal with all of the idiots that are backing the Mr. Jones. My prayers are with you!

Posted by: Status-QUO on May 20, 2008 at 04:13 AM
I guess if he is like anybody else in this area...he will surely be comdemned guilty before a trial or a jury of his peers...or even before any evidence has been disclosed. Not once did it state any details, investigation findings...what the heck happened and why the secrecy? We don't need to know the victims identities.

Posted by: Rebecca on May 20, 2008 at 02:04 AM
I say let the courts decide its not our jobs to judge thats why thier is evidence and testamoney, sometimes these crimes are commited by people we would never suspect and sometimes for what ever reason people just lie on others.. its not for us to say, this is very tragic and sad I hate to hear things like this and I hope for everyones sake what ever the truth is it comes out.

I AM SURPRISED AT THE CHARGES FILED AGAINST SCOTT I DO NOT BELIEVE HE WOULD ANYTHING TO HARM ANY OF HIS STUDENTS SO WITH THAT IN MIND I CERTAINLY HOPE THAT THERE IS EVIDENCE TO VALIDATE THE CHARGES OTHERWISE I THINK THE GIRLS IN QUESTION SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR WHAT THEY HAVE DONE TO SCOTT AND HIS FAMILY. HANG IN THERE SCOTT THE TRUTH WILL SURELY COME OUT SOON.

As a former student of Rock Hill High School, I am ashamed to tell people I went there. This was going on when I attended school there, even with this teacher. It is sick that these teachers think this is acceptable and what is even worse is the principal and teachers turn a blind eye and have for years. The WHOLE staff should be ashamed of themselves. As an educator now, I can't even imagine looking at my students in this kind of light. Rock Hill High school has a big, black eye now and should be investigated by the state of Ohio. I am so embarrased to be an alumni of this school. This school needs to get some help. Maybe the staff should look up professional in the dictionary. There have been soooooo many teachers doing this for years there. You have a problem if you look for your future girlfriend or wife from the students you teach. I am so upset for these girls. Way to go girls! You did the right thing and hopefully this will end the Rock Hill date my students staff!

i knew a man for 14 years that was a devoted family man. he went to church every sunday and worked two jobs to support his family. there wasnt to many days that went by that i wasnt with him doing something or another. i knew him better than my own brothers, so i thought. he is now serving 10 years for child molestation to his own daughter. never in a million years would i have thought this possible, but it does happen. now im not saying mr jones is guilty, i dont know the facts. im not saying the girls are lying either. i do know that most everyone here is quick to judge one way or the other. everyone needs to let the justice system do there job and at the end of the trial drawl your conclusions. which ever is lying deserves to be punished to the fullest extent of the law. i hope and pray for both parties involved that this gets done the right way and as soon as possible.

Rock Hill leaders - principals, school board does need to start in on a discipline plan not just for teachers, but for teachers, and students!!!! Students get by with whatever because everyone is so worried about a lawsuit. QUIT worrying about what everyone's last name is a nd who tehy are related to and lets start getting a hand on the situations and clean it up for the next school year! I do not know Mr. Jones at all, I have only seen him at football games, but I pray for him and his family as I do the young girls, and I am very proud of these girls for coming forward it was hard I am sure, and only Time will tell on the verdict! I was a neighbor of Scott Jones when he was growing up and this is something I personally don't think he did. He was never causing problems nor fighting with the other kids and I had 3 that he knew. He was always polite to hi peers and his mom and dad.

I knew Scott in college and he was always a gentleman. A really caring and insightful person whom was always there with a smile on his face. Even in the worst of times he could make you smile and remember that there is always tomorrow to look forward to. It's incidents like this that made me change my mind about teaching. Todays students have no morals and could care less whose life they destroy, lying is one of the quickest ways in which to accomplish it. I would let Scott teach or tutor my children any day and yes I have 2 daughters. I feel that this will all come to light and everyone will see that Scott is just a good person with a caring heart.

What is going on in the education system? Teachers having sex with students!!!! I think these teachers who are found guilty should be sent to prison. There are so many good teachers. This behavior gives all teachers a bad reputation. There are a lot of graduates coming out of college. Give them a chance to teach. Get rid of these perverts.

Posted by: RHMomRhonda on May 19, 2008 at 09:37 PM
I have known Scott since we were kids. Did anyone know he had a successful career with a gospel band before he quit to teach? I can't imagine him EVER doing something this evil and vile. EVER! But, do I live in his home? no. Do I follow him everywhere 24/7? no. Do I think he is guilty? NO. But, I do have something to say, DO NOT use this awful tragedy to bring out your own hatred and bad experiences. No one can take away the pain of the things someone has suffered, but this is NOT a place to reveal things in Your own past that haunt you. Go to therapy to rid yourself of your problems. DiamondNRough this is not a personal vendetta for you is it? If not, then let this be decided by a court of law. Because law goes on facts usually, instead of emotional bias. Like I said, I can't imagine it, but if he's guilty it will come out as well. Innocent until proven guilty doesn't cover the pain of the families, loss of a career or a ruined reputation. Don't worry Scott, the truth will be known.

I don't think that Mr Jones is guilty for the simple reason he loves his students he does anything and everything for his stundents at Roch hill Middle or High school he would never do anything to hurt them in any shape or form!!! If he's not there for the 2008-2009 school year then my daughter will not be in Band at all!!! He treats the students with respect as they would him. So I say let Mr Jones go and leave him come back to Rock Hill to teach if not then there probably won't be a band for Rock Hill!!!! We believe in you Mr Jones don't give up!!!!!

I do not know all the facts of this case, but I can say that I have known Scott Jones for many years, and when I was made aware fo the situation I was shocked. I find it very hard to believe, however we do not know all the details, I will do what is right for now and pray for both sides, the truth will prevail and we will know for sure. Let's just pray and not be judgemental, both sides need prayer.

To Rock Hill Alumni...Mr. Jones is an attractive man and what does that have to do with anything about this case? Tell me what teachers do not have students in their class when the teacher is on his/her break. I remember when I was in school the students when go to teachers classes and grade test papers and were giving A's for doing it for them. Anyway my daughter has been alone with Mr. Jones and she loves him and swears that he wouln't do this. Even if proven innocent the embarrassment will be there. My family prayers for him and his family and the people that are quick to judge him.

Leave the poor man alone. Maybe he did it but he has kids and a wife.....let the court system do their job. It doesn't matter what we think. Justice will be served. The truth will come out whether he is lying or the girls are. Let the evidence prove who is guilty there is no use slandering Mr. Jones and the girls.

WAKE UP!I have said this before and I am saying it again. Sex Offenders do not wear an Ugly Mask, or a Sign that Says I Am a Molester Beware! They Wear a Shield of Trust! This Shield of trust they build over time through manipulation of their victims. Just because you go to church and you say your a Christian does not mean your not a Sex Offender(My GOD LOOK AT WHAT THE CATHOLIC CHURCH HAS DONE TO IT'S OWN!) Victims live through HELL every day of their life after breaking their silence...That is why so many are not as brave as these two girls are to speak up when these things happen. I know this for a fact. It took me to age 36 to speak up about the abuse I encountered as a child. I had to because I had to protect my own children that I knew would be the next in line of the sick pervert that molested me. What exactly do you think these girls are going to gain from making up a story like this? Trust me There would be NO arrest made if there was not GOOD Evidence! Kudos Girls! Kudos!

Posted by: Not Fooled on May 19, 2008 at 08:05 PM
Many people on here have stated that a student wouldn't lie and ruin a teacher's reputation. I suppose 13 year olds don't have sex, use drugs, drink or smoke either. Eavesdrop on teenagers' conversations sometime, and see how nasty and perverted they are. And you don't think they are manipulative and vindictive? How many teenaged girls are pregnant at your high school? Sex is just recreation to these kids, and they think no one is off limits. Their is hell to pay if you hurt one's self esteem. They know they get to play by a different set of rules than adults. The world is very different now.

I am appalled at why the elected officials of our state are standing for someone the people of WV have not voted for. I hope Joe won't be as distanced from the voters of his state. Although I wish the decisions the leaders of our state had been known -before- we went to the polls!!!!

But I must say on his behalf this man is un doubt'edly a wonderful man and I believe in his innocence and I will be praying for him, and his wife, children, and all involved. And I suggest all do!!!!

People, please give me a beak. Do child molestors go around telling people they like little girls? They are maniulative and work to gain the trust of victims and their families...Hello? Sound familiar? These girls are being victimized over and over again for coming forward and telling the truth! I am so PROUD OF THEM because their honesty may keep it from happening to others. Stay strong girls! My prayers are with everyone including Mr. Jones' family.

former coworker- what do you mean 'made to leave'? if you know something that we don't know then share with us. Don't tease and beat around the bush! Where's the proof? As a mother of a 13 year old girl at RH, I am completely disgusted. I seriously doubt these girls are lying and with that.. I hope if he is guilty he gets more than what the last one got.

Posted by: Bev on May 19, 2008 at 06:11 PM
If this man is innocent God help him. I had a family member accused of this because the church people wanted him out. He was absolutely innocent but people still blame him. This will follow him the rest of his life whether he is guilty or not. If he is guilty he should do a lot of time in prison.

Facts: Charges are Sexual Battery - unsolicited, inappropriate sexual touching. NOT sexual relations which would have brought charges of Statutory Rape. Fact: The girls made the allegations, then denied them. Fact: The girls bragged about what they were going to do BEFORE they did it - overheard by several classmates. Fact: Too many people are too quick to say "Guilty" without any evidence or facts. Fact: Another life ruined BEFORE he's even had a fair trial. And what about his wife and their 4 children? This is serious, and if those girls are found to be lying, I hope they are the ones who have to spend time in jail or Juvenile Hall. We have to stop this madness, or you could be the next victim! Scott, my thoughts and prayers are with you. Hang in there.

I have known Mr. Jones for about five years. I was very shocked to hear of these allegations. He has done so much for the Band program at Rock Hill. At this point Im not sure what to believe. If these girls are falsly accusing Scott they should be punished to the fullest extent. Even if he is proven innocent he will still have people in the community that has doubts. If he is found guilty he should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. My thoughts and prayers are with all parties involved.

People on here should say the girls are lieing just because you have known him for a long time. Most times in cases like this it is people least likely for this to happen...

I find it very interesting Scott Jones has taken an online manipulation class. It fits right into my perspective of this situation. Without that information, I thought he was capable of manipulating people. He is a very nice man, but that does not mean he is innocent. He attended church, but so did Jimmy Swagart(sp?) and Jim Baker. Of course, I believe he deserves a fair trial to decide his guilt or innocence. However, this man is capable of committing a crime and he didn't have to "mean" or physical abusive to commit the crime he is accused. He is an intelligent man. I am sure he could say exactly the right thing at the right time to manipulate people to get what he wants.

Posted by: Rock Hill Band Alumni on May 19, 2008 at 05:17 PM
Did anyone ever think that the reason I never said anything was because no one would believe a STUDENT anyway.... I mean look... no one would have believed these girls if it wasn't for the evidence. Plus no one really knows what all happened, because he was left alone with these girls all the time. I mean really what forty year old man wants to be alone with LITTLE GIRLS. That is no NORMAL. Besides some of you all say that the girls were mad because he would not mess around with them, but really be honest to yourself...Mr. Jones is NOT that attractive anyway.

Posted by: A Teacher on May 19, 2008 at 05:14 PM
I have known Mr. Jones for about 10 years. He is a good man, I agree. I also know one of the girls. Do I think he did it? I hope not. Do I think she's lying? No, I do not. Only God knows the answer. I am sickened by what I've heard and by the comments that I've read. If you are a Christian, PRAY for all involved. Do not make assumptions about the ones you do not know. You may end up regretting you ever commented.

I am a former student of Scott Jones, and have worked closely with him,he is a very close friend of mine. He has been an excellent mentor and inspired me to go into teaching in college and he is my real life hero. He helped me through a lot during many tough times. I know his heart and his intentions are pure and his only desire is to help people. If by some slim chance that a man as kind and trustworthy as him is guilty than there is no hope for this world, and we should stop trying to make the world a better place because there would really be no point. I have faith in him and God that the truth will come out and he will be free to live his life and continue to make a huge positive impact in the lives of others and ultimately changing the world single handedly in his everyday life. Mr. Jones, I trust you and have never trusted anyone more and I have faith in your innocence. God help and God bless you, Scott Jones!

I feel so sorry for all involved. Even if Scott is found innocent or the charges are dropped many lives have been ruined. I do not have both sides of the story nor does anyone commenting on the situation. My only contact has been with Scott and his wife through his work at the school. I find it difficult to believe he is guily of such a crime. I have worked for years in law enforcement and until a person is proven guilty or confesses he is believed to be innocent. I have dealt with sex offenders and there are signs and identifying personality characteristics that often give them away to trained professional working in the field. I have never seen or heard anything out of Scott that would indicate he would do such a thing. I do not know the girls and will leave to speculation the motivation behind their statements.

Hey Paul, do you have proof that he didn't? I don't think that he would have been arrested without some corroborating evidence. This isn't an isolated incident, obviously. I can tell you that it's never been ok for these clandestine relationships to exist, and if these trusted teachers walk away with just a slap on the wrist, it will never end. I don't know if he did it or not. Just seems that it ought to be left to a jury to decide. Anyone else read what "former co-worker" wrote?

I know that people can be very cruel with their comments, and I don't want to fall into that catagory, but the truth is the truth. I feel that alot of this could be taken care of if there was a affective disapline policy in effect at Rock Hill schools. It seems that our kids can say and do what they want, and there is no protection for the teachers, because if we make the parents made they might put a lawsuit against the school. Please stop letting this go on, try to protect our teachers. There will come a time when they will be hard to find, and then what will we do? The board members can't stop fighting long enough to take care of the problems. They need to put aside, who's on who's side, and stop caring more about votes, and get this school system in order.

Scott use to be the band director and baseball coach at Portsmouth East in the 90's before leaving for a school in WV - then later returning to Rock Hill. You people who "know he's innocent and could never do these things" need to look into why he was MADE to leave. Also, the fact he is a good Christian man has absolutely nothing to do with this. I admit that Scott is very strong in his faith, but that doesn't mean he doesn't sin... he is human.

To:to Stand Strong on May 18, 2008 at 10:26 PM What exactly are you trying to say? "It doesn't help to be totally ignorant went it comes to a person's innocence or guilt." What does that mean? Once again, I am voicing my support of the two teenage girls that are being ripped to shreds on this message board. You can give all the examples you want about someone being falsely accused, and I can match it, or even double it with people found guilty. What do they have to gain from this? If this message board is any indicator, then I would say support isn't it. Don't YOU be so quick to judge. Why are you so sure that they are lying and he's not?

Hey Ida, they had enough evidence to arrest him didn't they? I really can't understand what you are trying to say, but I think that you are saying that because he has kids that means that he is incapable of molesting others? Are you serious? And you don't ever have to feel sorry for me, Ida. I feel sorry for you and all of the others that have had the wool pulled over their eyes, by a wolf in sheeps clothing. You people act like he couldn't do it because he is so nice and kind. Being nice has nothing to do with it. From what I hear Ted Bundy was nice too. Was he supposed to walk around growling and wearing a t-shirt that says "I like underage girls!"

I cannot comment on guilt or innocence, however being in the Christian ministry my husband and I are very aware of making sure we do not put ourselves in a position where accusations can be made. My husband will not have a woman in his office without me being present or outside the room with the door open. Having a position over children is also very important that teachers act in the same way. Do not put yourself in a position to be accused or allow yourself to be pulled into something that you didn't intent to happen. It is a lesson for everyone.

Did any of you all who are claiming that he is innocent know that he took a manipulation class online, well I do and he has just proved to us all how good he really is at those kind of skills. They would not have arrested him if they did not have evidence, so hello everyone wake up he is guilty, I always suspected it when I was in highschool anyway, and I only graduated highschool two years ago, so every one sort of knew they were all just afraid to say anything, because "omg what would we all do with out Mr. Jones!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

While we should take each accusation seriously, to convict someone just on the word of a person is also irresponsible. I can think of three boys at Duke who were accused, tried and convicted before it was discovered the accuser lied about the incident to get money. It doesn't help to be totally ignorant went it comes to a person's innocence or guilt.

I am so sick of these comments that are in favor of an alleged child molester. If he is such a wonderful person, as you are making him out to be, then why would someone want to do something so destructive to him? This is why so many rapes and molestations go unreported, because everyone is so fast to blame the victim and create a shrine for the perpetrator. Having to go through all of this in a public forum with his cheering section leaving comments left and right that are suggesting that the girls are lying is like being raped again. GIRLS, STAND STRONG! I WILL BE PRAYING FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILIES!

Well, I know of Scott from back in college. He is a very nice and quite talented person. I have to say that over the years, I have seen people change and do crazy things. I am not talking about anyone in the school system but in life in general. As a teacher, I see students get mad at teachers and lie on them all the time. Parents call and question and most of the time find that their child has lied or "stretched the truth". I would never say that these girls are lying without checking out such allegations. We do want to protect all children. But, students do lie and parents can be quite naive and vindictive where their children are concerned. If these students are lying, I think teachers need to start suing for defamation of character. We all know that even if he is cleared, a cloud of doubt will hang over him and his career. Students and parents alike need to be held accountable for their rumors and gossip about teachers.

If these girls are lying God will have his vengeance on them.

Dave, I'll have you know I've never watched CSI. Looks like someone needs to learn how regular people think before they start spouting off on something that isn't even relevant to the topic in the first place. I'll also have you know I have friends in law enforcement. And to call someone a joke just because you don't agree with them is just plain childish. Where do you get off slamming the person rather than the opinion? That just isn't right on any level. - Back on topic: I somewhat agree with Joanne. It would probably be best the people remain somewhat neutral, without expressing GROSS bias to one side or the other. My first comment was mostly out of shock, because that was my hunch from the beginning, but there really is no way to tell without a thorough investigation. For the sake of Mr. Jones, I hope the girls are just lying. This reminds me of a conversation I had with my choir director once. He makes it a point to not give students any room to argue such a case as this.

I am reading about the stories of what is happening in Lawerence County with two teachers. I do know either men or the students involved. However, this is popping up way too often and I think someone needs to sit all the teachers down and have a talk, as well as the students. It is a shame that this goes on. I remember some stories about a female teacher at RHHS being criticized for the way she dressed, even had to be sent home a couple of times.....maybe RRHS needs to see what their male teachers are up instead. Really, this is sad that people, of all ages, do not seem to know any better. I am a teacher, a female one, and why I admit that kids now do not look their age, they still are. I went to college too long to jeopardize my career. Maybe some of these teachers need to think about that, and these students who think going after teachers are a hot thing to do.

This is so common. When I was in school over 20 years ago, the predators were there then...it was just swept under the rug. What happens is that they get used to a "new flavor" each year. I wish I had said something 20 years ago, and one of the predator's at my school had been taken off the roster. People need to watch their children carefully and stay "in-tune." Cell phones are well intentioned, but they can lead to this crap, too. God help us when we can't trust our teachres.

After viewing Mr. Jones' picture, I find it very hard to believe that teenage girls were obsessed, and throwing themselves at him. Not so much a McDreamy, more like a McYucky.

For those who state they know these perpetrators and claim "they could not have done such a thing". Let me as a survivor of childhood sexual abuse remind you that Sex Offenders do not wear an ugly mask...They wear a shield of Trust! Sexual Abuse is not prejudice to sex, race, religion or profession. Don't be naive and think these are the only sex offenders living among you. Kudos To the Young Ladies that Came Forward to Break Their Silence. I admire you for having the courage to SPEAK UP! Now some advice: Ignore the threats, hold your chin up, remember your not alone, and most importantly, it was NEVER YOUR FAULT! Be Proud Of Yourself you took the first step to making a difference! Remember during the tough times, that it is even harder on the abuser then it is on you! Prayers go out for all involved. Your Lavender Power Sister! DiamondNRough

nothing anyone can say will make me believe this man is innocent. i believe jones has been doing this since his very first year as asst band director at rhhs i7 or 18n 1993-1994. he freely admitted to me that he was seeing a senior band member at that time. of course, he would have only been 23 or 24 and she 18 but who knew that 14 years later, he'd still be at it. i should have said something.

With all due respect to everyone who has posted here, either knowing Mr. Jones or not, there is truly NO WAY of KNOWING what a person is capable of. You may have your personal gut feeling, but unless you are with someone 24/7 you cannot definitively say! I definitely think that the girl(s) in question should be left alone at this time by Mr. Jones supporters. If they are not telling the truth, it WILL come out. But what if they ARE telling the truth? Then all of you that have persecuted the girl(s) will be complicit in this matter. I believe that something wasn't quite copacetic for an arrest to have been made. I think it best to wait and let the jury determine guilt or innocence. I do believe that people should error on the side of caution. Say what you want, but I can't see anyone throwing themselves at Mr. Jones as some have alluded to. No offense intended. Not any bearing on innocence or guilt, just an observation that I made. I just hope that the truth prevails.

I have known Mr. Jones since I was in Kindergarden, and I know he wouldn't do something like this.I know both of these girls and they definately want attention even though Idon't think one of them would lie about it.

Posted by: former rh student on May 18, 2008 at 10:31 AM
I was a rock hill student, and mr.jones was my teacher, he was a very nice man and never seemed to acknowledge any of the flirts from the high school girls. He was always talking about his wife and his own kids. I know how girls did when I was in school and they have probably gotten worse. Out of all the male teachers I had he would be the least likely to do something like this. I know of a couple that probably would, but not Scott Jones. I will not believe he is guilty untill I see proof. I believe you are innocent Mr. Jones and I will pray for you and your family.

Posted by: Anonymous on May 18, 2008 at 09:29 AM
This is in response to "know him". You may think you "know him" but you obviously don't know the girls involved very well. To say that they have been known to lie before is a ridiculous lie on your part. You may "know him" but I know these girls and have since they were small. They are sweet, smart, talented young girls and didn't deserve to be taken advantage of by someone that was a trusted friend of both of their families. They are not girls out for revenge. Scott Jones was held in high esteem by both families. They trusted him with their young impressionable daughters and he abused that trust. He is a sick indiviual who used his position as a family friend and confidant to prey upon these sweet girls. They are the ones who need your prayers and support.

It doesn't matter what others think or say of you or what you go through in life; it will never compare to what our savior JESUS CHRIST went through while he was here. We will all be judged by GOD one day for what we do in this life. He knows it all. Are you saved? That is what truly matters.

This has been going on for years at Rock Hill, some teachers have even married their students.

Posted by: Dave on May 18, 2008 at 02:27 AM
Matt your a joke, you have no idea how law enforcement works. Just because the cops did a two day investigation doesn't mean they know what is going on. It's a sexual battery charge, so they will arrest even if they don't have any evidence, just to keep the family of the girls happy. And let's face fact too, Ohio cops are not known for being that smart in the first place. So stop watching CSI and giving your unprofessinal opinion as if you have any clue what police do or think.

Knew him several years ago, and I honestly cannot believe this to be true. I am sure that the actual truth will come to light, yet this man will forever be affected due to this! Completely unfair! Now, think of this...who will be left to be teachers? If an accusation can send one to jail, who would want to put him/herself in that situation? Some are quick to judge. This just highlights more injustice that takes place in the world.

These allegations do not come as a surprise to me, at all. I've always thought there was something underneath the surface, but I just always hoped I was wrong. Looks like I"m not. I don't believe these girls would lie to ruin someone's reputation, starting a rumor on a fellow student is one thing, starting one on a teacher is something completely different.

Posted by: RHgirl on May 17, 2008 at 11:06 PM
Jones is innocent. If anyone needs to be behind bars its these "girls" who went around bragging at school about how they were gonna pull this off. These immature girls dont realize the consequences in the real world....so grow up. Everyone knows these girls and their reputations. My prayers go out to their families when this all comes to the end. what goes around comes around....and they will see what its like to have your life ruined.

Just because he's a christian means he can't possibly be guilty of this? That's insane. Most pedophiles stay under the radar and are trusted beloved memebers of the community. Just because a person is in the church anytime the doors are open doesn't mean they aren't capable of such disgusing things. Don't let the "christian" label blind you into thinking he's automatically innocent. Be real here.

Hello Jessi (don't try to hide your identity or anything). As I recall, everyone was told to keep their mouths shut and not discuss this with anyone, so would you mind explaining why you're discussing a matter you really know nothing about on the internet?

Posted by: Matt on May 17, 2008 at 07:49 PM
Jessi, with all due respect, I might point out that it was a two day investigation. If there wasn't any somewhat sufficient evidence, the man wouldn't have been arrested . As it is right now, there must be enough evidence to put him behind bars, because he IS behind bars. I'd be thanking Children's Services and the Sheriff's office for actually looking into the matter rather than shrugging it off as teenage girls lying because of a sick obsession. Unless you're willing to come forward as testimony, I'd be careful what you say about the girls in question.

You people are ridiculous! It isn't like this guy is going to out and out tell you about his tendencies. These type of people put themselves in opportune situations and "groom" people into just adoring them. Then they do what it is they want and people like you fall for it and defend them. "Oh no, not him. He's wonderful. He's a christian. He's so nice." Nuts! That's what THEY do.

I have known Scott most of his life. THESE kind of allegations are totally out of character with the Scott I know. And, realizing that people can change, I still find it impossible that he would do something like this. So I choose to believe in his innocence - until proven guilty. Scott, people are standing behind you and support you, so please don't forget that. Good luck in overcoming this.

Please, if these girls are lying, come forth before you ruin a very decent family! Amy, I am praying everything works out and this whole mess will be cleared up! Keep praying!!!!

Innocent until proven guilty. However, if teenage girls lie, isn't it possible that adults do too? I certainly hope this isn't true, but in this world this is a possibilty. I hope that the girls who came forward will be protected and not persecuted and I also hope that if he is guilty that he will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law and not get off as easy as the other teacher from Rock Hill.

I feel like these girls have an obsession with Mr. Jones, so they got scared and turned him in for something he probably didn't do. I have heard these girls were the ones approaching him, and he would turn them away. They were so obsessed that they wouldn't stop at nothing, and maybe comments he has made to them were taken the wrong way. Mr. Jones is a good man, and I do not think he would ever do something like this to children, or even to hurt his family. He is a great teacher, and has made many positive changes for the Rock Hill School District. He has made the community very proud of the Pride of Lawrence County. I'm sorry that something like this has been blown out of proportion, and I feel for the girls, and Mr. Jones and his family.

Posted by: Know him on May 17, 2008 at 03:58 PM
There is not anyway this man is guilty. This two "little girls" have been known to lie before and without a doubt law enforcement will get to the bottom of this and Mr. Jones will be a free man. He is innocent, and the girls should be locked up for their lies.

Posted by: Anonymous on May 17, 2008 at 03:33 PM
I have known this man for years and know him well. While every human being is capable of inconceivable behavior, I would be shocked if there is proof he actually did what he is accused of doing. People need to consider that all it takes is for one person to accuse you of something and your life and reputation are essentially over, whether you did something or not. It takes very little to be considered sufficient evidence for arrest, which is not the same as convinction. If there is actual proof, he should be fully punished. If not, people need to search their hearts and consider the potential motivations of the accusers. We need to pray for all involved, which also includes the legal parties and those who are quick to judge without knowing all the facts.

Posted by: rhh1970 on May 17, 2008 at 03:33 PM

Guilty until proven innocent. If a man is accused of something sexual with a girl, his career is ruined whether he did anything or not. I will pray for all involved.

Posted by: Leigh on May 17, 2008 at 03:23 PM
Let's face it people, do you ever really knows someone? Granted, Mr. Jones is innocent until proven guilty, but if he is guilty he needs to suffer the consequences. If the female teacher recently charged did time then he should too if he's done what he's being charged with.

Posted by: Jeff on May 17, 2008 at 03:19 PM
Having this person as an instructor many years ago and seeing what teenage girls would do to "throw" themselves at him along with other male staff in the high school, I can see how these allegations were brought upon from rejection. I will not judge until the court has thoroughly examined all evidence. If he is guilty, then he deserves to go to prison, if he's innocent (like the law presumes him to be until proven otherwise) then let him try to get back to a normal life. It sickens me to see community feedback from people who already have him guilty posting on this page about being "fooled" and "mistrust".

I know the Jones family well and do not beleive the allegations for one second. He is a kind and wonderful man and I do not believe anything that anyone is saying about him. It is appaling that people take a few statements from the media and make their decisions based upon that. I work in the legal/law enforcment area and the system is very inperfect. Let's all remember you are innocent until proven guilty. And to the Jones family, you continue to be in my prayers.

Posted by: Anonymous on May 17, 2008 at 02:53 PM
I have know the Jones' for years now and there is NO way this is possible. Scott is a wonderful Christian man who would NEVER do such a thing. Why these girls would make such claims about such a good, honest man astounds me. The only thing I can come up with is that they wanted attention or had some sort of grudge against Scott (such as receiving a detention or something from him and their families were upset with the girls, so they made up a story about how bad a person he is so they wouldn't get in trouble). I sincerely hope that once the truth is exposed that these girls are also arrested for filing false police reports. Scott, Amy, and family, know that we believe you and that God will help you through this very rough time. Your friends are behind you 100% and are praying for you. God bless you and help you through this difficult time.

This isn't the first time I've had a hunch about someone or something, only to find that my hunch was correct. If we don't have hard winters snakes and mosquitoes thrive, for one. Mosquitoes are a large part of fish diet. And snakes keep rodents in check. But too much cold hurts other things that call for warmer temps. Quail is one thing that comes to mind that suffer in the frigid temps. We just don't understand all of the workings of these things. But it is all to keep a balance-many times in things we ourselves have killed off, such as bear and wolves. Even if we don't like some species, they all serve a purpose and nature helps keep that balance. Our world really was wonderfully made. With all the changes in temperature, we still have seasons. The purpose of such a strategy – known as the Retrofit for Energy and Environmental Performance (REEP) – would be to “facilitate” the retrofitting of existing buildings nationwide. In other words all your appliances-heating-stove -fridge-windows-would have to meet green standards before we sell SOCAILISM HAS ARRIVED YESWEDID

In a revamped health care system envisioned by senators, people would be required to carry health insurance just like motorists must get auto coverage now. The government would provide subsidies for the poor and many middle-class families, but those who still refuse to sign up would face fines of more than $1,000. The details were unveiled Thursday in a health care overhaul bill supported by key Senate Democrats looking to fulfill President Barack Obama's top domestic priority.SOCAILISM IS HERE The Congressional Budget Office estimated the fines would raise around $36 billion over 10 years. Senate aides said the penalties would be modeled on the approach taken by Massachusetts, which now imposes a fine of about $1,000 a year on individuals who refuse to get coverage. Under the federal legislation, families would pay higher penalties than individuals

Mindless devotion to whatever is contrary to common sense and whatever theory is being passed around. Most families have both parents working, some two jobs, just to make it now. Soon you won't even be able to work enough to carry your family, the government and the ones who won't work. Then you will be disposable and they will start killing you off because you can't give them enough money. But you will blindly keep following. It is easy to see how Hitler took control and how it is being set up for the antichrist to take control. I quit. I will never read another comment. Just the other day I wrote how my child was injured at Camden Park! Of course RoaneCo. had to write something and attack me about my decision to get angry about the situation. Yes, I agree that I should just turn the other cheek but I was raised to stand up for myself!! • Posted By: HtiekWhat always amazes me about people in WV is their slavish devotion to coal mining even though it is killing the planet, costs more jobs than it creates, poisons the water, destroys the mountains, scars the land, kills the snail darter, and other horrible things. Things are all so backwards in this country why dont we switch over to something that lasts and is free like the sun and wind? Even if the president said that stuff and I doubt he did and even if he did you are misquoting him or taking him out of context he is right if there is one sure way to get people to stop turning their air conditioners down to 76 it is to raise the price, just like gasoline. People we can learn to ride bikes and walk again, just like they did in the old days, that will help give us exercise and decrease the obesity rate in WV. Food is another area, the slop that people eat like MacDonalds, trans fats, regular soft drinks, anybody with half a brain knows the intelligent thing to do is tax regular soda pop.

  • Posted By: KrisHi Bonn, it is true that these cycles do occur over time. Scientists have taken core samples from the earth and the ice to show these cycles. However, none of the samples show such a dramatic change in such a short period of time. I am a smoker and I will admit that my second hand smoke can and probably will effect the lungs of a non-smoker. The tons of carbon monoxide and other pollutants that we release into our atmosphere HAS TO have an effect on our atmosphere. True story: there was a scientist that day after day after day couldn't figure out why the sky was so blue and clear. Then it struck him, there hadn't been ANY planes in the air for three days. That was 911. What you put out, is what you get back. If you put love out, you will get love back. If you put out negativity, you will get negativity back. For every action, there is a reaction whether it's good or bad. It's in our hands to do our best not to cause an adverse impact to our planet. Peace to ALL!

This so called cap and trade bill that these busy body do gooders are pushing on us will destroy our jobs and run up the electric bills so that everybody will have to live like the Waltons with 27 people under one roof just to keep warm. Now the average hippie longhair don’t care noway because they would have us all living in mud huts riding mules wearing sandals and weaving baskets to load down with califlowers and arougalas tofu and alfalfa to take up on some worthless mountaintop as an offering to there windmill god instead of having nice homes, cars, a job and cool air in the summer and heat in the winter ALL THANKS TO THE COAL MINER. Anything to bother people attracts these hippies like flies to a cowpie.

WHY AREN'T THESE NEWSPAPERS BRINGING THIS INFORMATION TO THE PEOPLE? Because the nations 96% are owned and controled by the WEALTHIEST.
  • Posted By: bonnI was trying to make a point. Perhaps not in the best way. I get so discouraged seeing what is happening around us. One group of scientists call for us to spread soot on all the snow up north to absorb heat to counter the coming ice age. Another (more popular) group calls for painting our roofs white to reflect the heat that is melting our ice caps. Which group is right? Neither. Our earth is doing exactly as it has been doing all along. Cycling naturally. Did it plan it all on its own? Hardly. But no one wants to hear that. It reminds me of "chicken little" yelling "the sky is falling". Only this is not so funny-this is control. And what is even sadder is-people seem to WANT to be controlled. This earth will continue as always until one preplanned day it all comes to a screeching halt. Then a new earth will be created. I will not be caught off guard. I read The Book. I know where I will be. Do you? And do you really enjoy giving those schemers your money that much? I hope one day...
  • Posted By: KeithA few questions for the Yell audience: Does anyone remember when Obama gave that interview in SanFran Cisco and said that he would not prevent the construction of a coal fired plant, but his policies would bankrupt anybody that tried to build one? That policy was cap and trade. I heard O say that energy prices, under his administration, would "necessairly skyrocket." Is this the hope and change you guys voted for? How will you afford your electric and gas service under this man who cares so much for the poor? Obama said once that he was not bothered that the price of gas had risen so high, just that it happened so fast. How does everyone feel about the gas price? Obama raked John Pablo McCain over the coals for suggesting health care benefits be taxed as income, now he is going to do the same thing to pay for "free" care to illegal aliens, deadbeats, etc...but union workers will be exempt from this tax. How does that make you feel if you work for a living and are not in a union? H&C

The people of Honduras have a Constitution very similar to ours and we should support the people not an extremist who is trying to take over their country. The 22nd Amendment does a great service for our nation. IF it would be reversed that would be O.K too. At the rate Obama is going W. could beat him in 2012. At least I would sleep better at night.

Christians absolutely can and do get angry, it's what they do with that anger that counts. It doesn't matter where, when, or even IF you go to church...what matters is that you have accepted Christ into your heart and asked for forgiveness of your sins. God didn't save us to judge others, he saved us to lead others to him. I've said many times...what if the person you just yelled at, told off, or whatever showed up at your church on Sunday? Would you be proud of your behavior?
  • Posted By: SophieRoane County is a beautiful place. The country roads snake along past fields, farms and old homes we wish could talk. Looneyville is indeed named after the Looney family, so is Gandeeville. My father was from Roane Co. & graduated from Walton High School in the 40's. He told me tales of his school days, friends, boyish pranks, old cars and the fun they had at the 4-H camp. Spencer was a big place to them. Roane Co. gave us many war veterans and kept distant family & friends together with the annual "Roane County Reunion". I don't even know if they still have it, but we used to go. I remember seeing Sen. Robert Byrd play his fiddle there. The Black Walnut Festival in October(?) is a good time to visit Spencer. They usually have a parade, arts & crafts and a museum. You can enjoy a slice of Americana, along with a slice of homemade pie.

  • Posted By: RoaneCo.Yes Craveontruth, there is a place named Looneyville.(no Jane Doe that isn't where I live) It is on Rt.36, nothing there but the Looneyville Post Office, and I am not joking. There is also a Lefthand Post Office on Rt.36, always wondered why there wasn't a Righthand also. Our County seat is located in Spencer, (middle of nowhere) which for years was only known for its State Mental Institution. (no Jane Doe this isn't my Alma mater) It was closed years ago and now a Wal-Mart is on that location. I guess the only other thing to speak of would be the Black Walnut Festival which is held in Spencer every October.
  • Posted By: bonn, the simpletonDon't we have a smart earth? She formed herself from a dust cloud, they say and planted herself just the right distance from the sun to support the life she would create. She also filled her insides with molten heat to maintain the right temps and if that builds too much she decides to blow some out holes (volcanoes) to keep from exploding. She makes her own rain, knowing whether she needs a gentle soaking rain for her plants, or a gully washer to cleanse the filth. It pours down the mountains, into the rivers and out into the ocean which she just happened to fill with salt (her natural sanitizer). And she knows if she doesn't have ice she will over heat, but too much and she will freeze, killing her life she so carefully made. So she melts some, then as it heats up, she freezes more. All just coincidental happenings? She is brilliant! But not so smart as the humans who are making a fortune controlling the other dumb humans by convincing them THEY are causing her to do these things!!!

Obama gets elected, the world understands our good will, and all is well. Just like history, Republicans start wars, Democrats finish them. Hate to say we told you so but we told you so, I just get fuzzy inside thinking about all the people that love us now that hated us because of that old Bush. Another thing too, leave this Iran thing alone, that is none of our business. I dont recall anybody from Iran coming over here to help us in 1776 so why should we stick our nose in their business? When you get a strong leader like in Honduras, a good strong leader with a military background, everybody goes nuts because the guy takes things over well I support him and Obama. In fact, some people are so needed we better start now to get rid of the 22nd Amendment, it was only put in by jealous radical extremist crazy Republicans to hurt FDR.

It has been this way since time began. I hope Roane can someday get past the hurt & retoric to work out his/her own salvation. Simple belief in Jesus Christ is where it starts, the rest as I put it, is just "gravy". Jane: I'm sorry your child was hurt. This indeed must be reported. I got hurt @ CP one time too on "The Whip". Well people I am here to tell you that this bunch at the so called CSPI and no you hippies I don’t mean the TV show calling us fat should look in the mirror they look like something off night of the living dead pasty faced scarecrows and beanpoles and what is so great about that. WV has some of the best staple foods anywhere in the world I have eaten paotatoes beans meat flour and corn meal all my life cooked in lard and I am not one bit worse off for it and can mine coal with anybody. People all the good foods we eat are natural growed in the garden or on the farm so it should even make a tofu eating hippie type happy. I am more bothered that two states beat us out in the race for the top so I tip my hat to the people of the great states of Alabama home of the best country music band ever and Mississippi but people of WV get busy we have to reclaim our title to best fed in the USA I recommend the Kentucky Fried Chicken with gravy and biscuits as a good place to start our comeback.
  • Posted By: RoaneCo.Actually Jane Doe, growing up I did attend church and read the bible. Being subjected to religion for many years I would not consider myself "confused" or uneducated. If one looks at organized religion with an open mind it isn't hard to see who is confused. For example, you have one bible yet there are numerous religious groups ( methodists, baptists etc...) that believe their interpretation is the only correct interpretation. This is understandable because the bible itself is very contradictive. In my opinion the the bible and organized religion is nothing more than a tool created to control the masses. Yet this tool has pitted man against man, brother against brother, state against state and country against country, not to mention the wars, death and destruction it has caused. I have witnessed in my lifetime many family fueds, broken marriages and busted churches at the hands of organized religion. I have heard the words of hate spoken by christians. I am not confused.

  • Posted By: bonnTo Jane Doe: I am afraid RoaneCo's common sense is more attractive than your comments. Read your last post at 8:58 and see if it shows the Light you are suppose to give. We are suppose to control our anger. Yes, we are forgiven, but it is not a license to keep repeating our faults. It is mercy so we can improve. Viciousness does not become a child of God. RoaneCo., may God forgive us for driving you and others away from Him with our failure to shine the Light of Love. And Jane Doe, I am the one you called ignorant just because I was showing compassion (another expectation of a Christian). It is scary about your child. But that person was not attacking your child, nor joking about it, only disapproving of your outburst. Not very attractive in anyone, especially one called to set an example for others to follow. If you must get angry, use it to accomplish something good. Christians are hated enough WITHOUT cause. Love is the answer.

People all I can say is get a woodpile and a bunch of cow chips because your electric is going to get real expensive real quick. These hippies has run up to Washington DC and boo hooed to them tree huggers and longhairs in the EPA until they got even worse done to our jobs but then again what do you expect from a bunch that has a leaf from a dope plant on there sign like the EPA does if you don’t believe me look on this very website I seen a picture of it. Birds of a feather flock together that’s why the good working people were kept out and not allowed to talk at that hearing and the hippies let in. People these hippies has slandered our great state and coal miners first they bring in professor moonbeam from NASA to insult us then he tucks his tail and runs back to NASA and wont debate Mr. DB then they attack our state university mascot the WV mountaineer. Well people I Big Earl have a solution to this lets call WV the “Ivory Soap State,” make our mascot a bathtub that’s a sure fire way to get rid of these smelly hippies and longhairs and keep them out forever.
  • Posted By: MEWe christians are most always judged by our actions and that is to be expected since we are not perfect in any way. We all make mistakes every day,we get angry,we say things we shouldn't and act out our frustrations sometimes to those closest to us and our friends. We try to do better and ask forgiveness when we do stumble from our christian path. Actions speak louder than words at times, good or bad. Yes we adults act like children at times and children try to act like adults all too soon. We never know who we are influenceing with our actions and words so we need to always try to act,say and do what is right. As long as we are on this earth we will stumble but we should strive to be the best we can be and treat people with love and respect no matter how we are treated. I have turned the cheek many times and been slapped alot and will keep on doing it as long as I breath. My time will come soon enough to be judged as to the way I have lived and treated people.

  • Posted By: DonnaPlease! enough of Michael Jackson. He died, now he will appear before God and face his punishment for his sins against children. He was a morally bankrupt person who the media has presented as an icon. It's no wonder children are so messed up today, too much TV and not enough parenting. You too, are responsible for making him appear as a person to be looked up to. He and others in entertainment and sports are not what the children need, they need moral examples to look up to, please stop the glorification of immoral and indecent individuals.
  • Posted By: food for thoughtTo those of you telling me to watch out for Fox news, please go back and read carefully what I said about the media and the government. I thank each of you for your information. I am not out to attack anyone whether acclaimed or the average joe. I just know what I have read from reports and from different sites. This information is what our scientists, meteorologists and so forth use in reference to report the records of weather and temperatures. Again thank each of you, and at last Fox news was the channel the fine people at our local (American made) dealership had channeled on the tube, personally I just watch WSAZ, at the local level.
  • Posted By: Roane Co., why are you not concerned about the safety of small children at amusement parks?
  • Posted By: HtiekRight on Kris you tell em about Fox News. Everyone that watches knows that the dependable networks are ABF, Anyone But Fox. I am just like everyone else in the know, they lie all the time but please dont press me to cite anything specific as I am having coffee right now. I am new to your side, so pardon me if I get something confused. Those photographs of the ice caps are proof positive as far as I am concerned, these flat earth types that dont believe global warming should compare them to the satellite picutres from the colonial period and over the years since for comparison purposes. I once heard the hottest year on record was in the 1930s but what does that prove. And before one of you know it alls talks about Al Gore riding everywhere in a private plane and having such a huge house and running a company that profits from selling carbon credits, some people in life earn their special privileges simply by showing up and enlightening the rest of us, so there.
  • Posted By: polar ice capsthe weather is always changing.sometime it freezes sometimes it melts, thats gods doings, not mans.wasnt it the great mind of ted danson many years ago that explaind that in 15 or 20 years that the oceans were going to raise so many feet that it would destroy and overflo inward to apolipicate level.i guess the people that live on these coast lines dont know they are under water.we americans are so silly.let me explain what a great creator said,it rains but the oceans are never full.ice melts but the oceans never overflo.i think i,ll believe him instead of a.gore or ted danzen.p.b.s last week on a travel show,,i think,,,,the guide said the glacier there had been melting 150years.that was certainly before the industrial revolution.as for fox, world net daily, newsmax, etc.the liberal press has lost it monolopy on liberal so called news.
  • Posted By: RoaneCo.After you finish showing your true colors, go back and read my post again Jane Doe. Better yet let me cut and paste it for you. "I do hope your little girl is ok. I have children of my own, I know how precious they are." And just for the record, I would never "make fun" of a child, but don't think for one second that I won't point out an adult being hypocritical. Are you not the same Jane Doe that three weeks ago was preaching about God, then in the same breath calling someone "IGNORANT"? So let me say it one more time, I hope your little girl is ok. As for you, thank you for proving once again how kind, loving, patient and understanding some of you fine christians can be.
  • Posted By: KrisThis respectfully goes out to "food for thought" for what they said about fox news and global warming.FOX has great movies and tv shows but their view when it comes to the "news" is so far on the "right" way of thinking that it totally obscures reality in their opions of the subject at hand. They'll twist their views to make sure that it is opposite of "liberals" or people on the "left" and how they feel about the subject.Asf or global warming, we have actual time lapsed pictures of the polar caps melting at an alarming rate. You can actually see it happening. If things are cooling down, then why are the polar caps and icebergs melting at an alarming rate? The evidence is right in front of our faces. I sure do hope you're right because if I am, our planet is doomed. Sincerely, Kris

  • Posted By: KeithNever thought I'd sit around and miss Bush...well the wrecking ball has appointed a racist to the supreme court, one that is inept and incompetent too. Did you notice her latest ruling was overturned today? The economy is not getting better, those of you out of work have my sympathy because this clown is not doing anything to make it better. He never held a real job, never ran a business, just a rabble rouser and agitator. How do you feel about cap and trade energy tax? All over a phony problem that doesnt even exist; WV will wither away to nothing but hey we can all get jobs in the windmill factory, cant we? How do you feel about having your health benefits taxed to pay for Obamacare? How's the hope and change working out for everyone? What do you think card check is going to do the economy? Check out an article about Obama the African Colonialist on the American Thinker Website, dated June 25th. It explains him to a "T." Obama is a wrecking ball, and he's gonna roll over everyone.
  • Posted By: Big EarlWell hello again good working coal miners of WV this is Big Earl and people I have come to the conclusion that we need some friends in Washington DC that has got some clout. Some people up there has got big names but nobody apparently listens to, that is if they show up at all in court to help you out, those who are sick are excepted. Then there are some people in Charleston who should be in Washington who shall remain unnamed because nobody in Gov. Joes office asked me to say that. But remember who had that bunch from FEMA down here handing out checks before two weeks after the flood water hit and figure out who has clout. You people that went up for the hearing last week should be thanked but the good people never got to say a word but these hippies did, they are apparently now running around the creek with microscopes looking for fish that cant be seen with the eye, something called a microbe, now they are blaming the coal miner for killing off this worthless animal and I sincerely hope Captain D or old Long John will never put some slop like that on my plate when I want good seafood. If you dont see it it cant be of no good use anyway, sort of like a certain US senator with a big rich name who was nowhere to be seen last week.
  • Posted By: Jane DoeTo RoaneCo. How dare you critize my comment. This isn't just some fun arguement!! My child is hurt! Do you think that's funny? Do me a favor, Next time I write about my kids, Don't comment! I hope you don't have any kids because you don't see the harm and worry in my comment, You just want to fight and make fun of someone!! This is really serious!! I don't see the humor!!!
  • Posted By: Big EarlDid any of you people see those PETA nuts on the TV 3 news last night boo hooing about having to tie there dogs up hello again working people of WV this is Big Earl and I don’t know about you but I always thought it was rude and inconsiderate and just being a bad neighbor to let your dogs run wild all over the neighborhood digging up peoples backyards rooting around in garbage cans and doing there business all over the place. Have any of you people in Huntington ever lost a chicken to a wild dog. Even these back to nature types and hippies up here in Boone County tie up there dog to guard there dope patches but they don’t have no sense anyway if they aint going to Washington DC to try and rook us out of our jobs by carrying signs and yelling about some invisible fish that is no good to anybody they are screaming about the coal miner killing polar bears and other animals that don’t even live here. Apparently this bunch had the bright idea to go down to the park on Sunday down in Huntington when people was out with there families trying to walk around and enjoy things and they chained themselves to trees with real dog chains trying to get people to sign a protest petition to of all people a mayor named Wolf now I don’t know about you but that mayor better forget the beware of dog sign he needs to put a beware of the PETA nut sign up in that park.
  • Posted By: The Seeker@food for thought: It is indeed important to check facts, and it heartens me to see that you're of the type that actively seeks them (even thought I fall on the side of the debate that believes in climate change, as it has solid science behind it). However, I caution you on taking anything from FOX news at face value. This is an organization that in 2000 won a case in Florida appeals court in which the court ruled that FOX has no obligation to tell the truth to it's viewers, and can misinform the public under the first amendment. This is also an organization that has been proven to have an agenda, and frames every bit of it's coverage to favor one political party over the other. My advice is to seek out less obviously biased news sources, especially in cases such as global warming, which is an issue that transcends political parties and affects every being on the planet.
  • Posted By: HughHey WVa. Checkin out the YELL. Kind of quiet today. Enjoyed my visit there. Met John Henry at the Big Ben Tunnel, saw the big bridge. Stood at Hawk's Nest and viewed the scenery. If I wasn't so old and crippled, I'd bungee jump from the New River Gorge Bridge. Have folks who live in the Talcott area and some around Hinton. Well won't take much of your time today. Just wanted to check in.
  • Posted By: what is foor for thought?foor?? for thought, you do know Bush made those he commissioned to study it alter their reports when he found out it supported global warming, don't you? Anyone who just sees pictures of the ice caps 30 years ago and now would have to be mentally handicapped not to know there's global warming, the only thing that's possible to debate is the cause of it. Wonder why Fox didn't mention the Bush fiasco? Well I don't really wonder.
  • Posted By: more p.c at wsazgays in usa sounds like it was written by a gay person,so it was printed.it was,nt written by a gay person.it was a second thought, after i commented on other sins, such as adultry, but plainly written by a heterosexual person.it was not printed because im straight and not gay.so goes our country and freedom.
  • Posted By: Lou AnnIve had a similar bad experience at camden park several years ago. Havent went back since. The pricing is just another deterrent to doing business locally. I love this area but am very discouraged by the lack of pride in our appearance in several of our towns, the prices of doing business, the attitude towards the customer , the lack of merchandise. I could go on. We definately are not tourist friendly in the great ohio valley area.
  • Posted By: foor for thoughtLooks like my comment on June 24th may be right. I have done some reading about this Global warming fad the government is putting on. I was sitting in a local car dealership and FOX news was reporting on the government sitting or "burying" studies by two of the highest ranking EPA officials contradicting this myth. Some of the comments from their studies proves the Global temperature if anything has decreased. Although, you should be skeptical about anything the media reports especially when it involves the government these are facts that have been recorded over time. I ask how come when these bozos as Dr. Hansen whom is from NASA(which has done innumerable amounts of damage to our air with their testing) never mention facts as these when trying to prove things they are claiming is a fact. People we in America have became lazy in seeking the truth, I am not disputing anything these scientists and the government tells us, but as we learned in elementary school check facts of both sides.
  • Posted By: gays in u.s.a.another reflection on gays.if you think god doesn,t care about you because you,re gay ,he must love you more than you can comprehend,if not you could have been born ina muslim country.islam has no homosexuals ,they are not rehabilitate, just beheaded.as a loving and compassionate god says"GO AND SIN NO MORE".that doesnt mean just you it means all of us.yes god allows you to choose,he must really care.
  • Posted By: City of MiltonI'm glad that the City of Milton has so much money to spend and that they spend it wisely. Every time I drive through town on a nice day it never fails that someone is washing their personal vehicle at the VFD. Good to see that they budget personal car washes into the city budget. I think I'll stop in there today and see if I can wash my car as well...should be a nice day!
  • Posted By: ValorieAbout four weeks ago, I sent a letter to Camden Park with a friendly suggestion to open the park to the casual visitor again. As of today, I still haven't had a response from them. There used to be a small fee for admission to anyone who just wanted to visit. Once inside the park, a visitor could buy a corn dog or pay to play a few games or ride a few rides. Now people have to pay a full admission price for all day rides, even when they don't plan to stay all day. A lot of people are grandparents who just want to watch their grandchildren ride for an hour or two. Some are young parents with small children who tire easily. As empty nesters, my husband and I would like to drop by to get a bite to eat, play some games or just walk around. Everyone I have spoken to said they would visit Camden Park a whole lot more if they didn't have to pay the full admission price. I challenge everyone to contact Camden Park and ask them to give the people a choice!
  • Posted By: to gay questiongod is not a cruel and unfair god.we all have our faults.is homosuxality a bigger sin than adultry, pornography, lying, stealing, and the list goes on.the clue to these behaviors is wanting to make our lives better.we cant blame anyone but ourselves for what we do.if anyone doesnt change its what they want to do.but as long as it doesnt affect me thats between you and god.but it is wrong, just as cheating on your spouse is sin.would we tell the adulterer that its not sin and not to try being a better person,i think not.celibacy would be better than the same old behavior.these have been struggle since creation.
  • Posted By: RoaneCo.Losing your religion Jane Doe? What happened to "turn the other cheek"? I do hope your little girl is ok. I have children of my own, I know how precious they are. But next time you read of someone else being "furious" or commenting on their personal issues, maybe you should keep your bible quotes to yourself.
  • Posted By: Jane DoeI recently went with my church and my family to Camden Park this past weekend. Me and my 6 year old daughter rode the Spider, We thought it was going to be lots of fun, we were wrong! It was a nightmare! It went on for 10 minutes and was going way too fast! My daughter was terrified and was screaming! I was furious when the man that helped us off asked if she was okay and I said what do you think and he laughed!! I have rode this ride for many years and loved it, But this time I could tell it was different! But then it gets worse, A friend of mine that stayed at the park longer than us informed me that after we left, The spider closed down and said they had crossed wires and the ride was malfunctioning!!! My daughter can't hardly walk today and has a four inch bruise down her back! I'm taking her to the doctor in the morning. If there is something seriously wrong, I will be speaking to the owner and this situation will be takin care of!!!!!
