HURRICANE, W.Va. (WSAZ)-The FBI has now traced the credit card fraud to a cred clearing house miles away in the mid west.
Now for Mi Pueblito it's a matter of spreading the word that they did nothing wrong.

The investigation of the restaurant and employees started when a customer said he noticed bogus purchases on his credit cards.

The owners say this ordeal caused them to lose 70 percent of their business. They say they hope now that their name has been cleared business will pick back up.

I love this restaurant. I am so happy that they were cleared. I am certain business will pick up again, for their food is so good and the service is fabulous!

I'm so happy to hear these guys did nothing wrong. They work long, hard hours at that restaurant and they treat each and every customer like they are their only one. Sadly, it was easy to see during the investigation that customers WERE staying away - their lunch and dinner crowds were all but gone. Hopefully, the good news will spread as quickly as the suspicion and the guys will be busy again very soon. Their food is awesome. Their customer service is wonderful. If the doubters remain, use your cash - that still works everywhere these days.

So, ummm...what happened to the bogus charges? Who and how did they get the card numbers and CVC codes? Who did it and what happened?

Posted by: steve on May 19, 2008 at 04:03 PM
mike, other restaurants and businesses in general have that happen all the time. they can get the credit card numbers even if you scan your own card at the gas station to pump gas. the criminals are getting high tech and can slip an electronic device that can read every card entered. then they go buy computers no your credit and such. happened to my chiropractor.

Well I do hope their business improves, it's unfortunate in this time so many are out to cheat others. Even if an employee had done something, that wouldn't mean the business owner was corrupt. Sadly a few cause problems for all.

Other places do have this problem, it just doesn't make the news. I've had it happen before. That's why you check your accounts online or on statements & contact your bank as soon as you find something incorrect.

70% loss no way! It's always busy there.

The media is the one that caused this restaurant to lose business. They found them guilty of a credit card scam before the authorities had a chance to say if the restaurant was gulity or not guilty. Now they are covering their butts by doing stories that the restaurant is innocent of any wrongdoings.

Is there an explanation as to why ONLY this particular business and NO OTHERS were involved? Still not clear on how they are the victims and not involved in scam. If they are truely inoccent, then I am sorry I refuse to eat there anymore. My family tries not to support thieves. Would love to more detailed info when available to make sure consumers are safe with there credit and debit cards to eat there.so sorry for the bussiness getting bad publicity IF they are on the up and up. Hope all others scamming get the same bad publicity.

The best thing to do is to cut down of the places you use your dept cards. I still eat Mexican food but I make sure to have cash everytime I go! There are a lot of other places (not just mexican) that I use Cash instead of Dept Cards... You just cant trust anyone anymore.! Thats sad.

How about slander or defamation of a business for the person or persons who began the hysteria?

Posted by: Megan on May 19, 2008 at 08:10 AM
It's a shame that this has happened. I always just pay with cash because I worry about identity theft EVERYWHERE I go... and if I can't afford to pay with cash, I do without unless it's a TRUE emergency situation. I really hope the TRUTH will spread as far as the allegations did and things pick back up for the business soon!

My wife just switched her checking account due to a charge on a mexican web site. She also eats at mexican resteraunts and uses her debit card.

Posted by: Curious on May 19, 2008 at 07:35 AM
I would not eat there unless they have changed the credit card company they were using or unless I used cash. If the problem has not been corrected on the other end, then it will still or could still happen.

As far as Mexican food in the area. This place has the best. It is always clean and the service is great. When this came out i believed it but just paid cash. If you are in Hurricane stop in.

Posted by: MIKE on May 19, 2008 at 01:37 AM
IT HAS HAPPENED IN THE PAST IT CAN HAPPEN IN THE FUTURE. WHY DID NO OTHER RESTURANTS HAVE THIS PROBLEM? I PERSONALLY AM NOT WILLING TO TAKE THE RISK.

Next time I go to Charleston, I think I will stop for a meal at Mi Pueblito.

We need the FBI agents that solved this case to get on the SPIKE Maynard case. Seems like no one can get him & Blankenship. FBI solved this real quick. Keep the good mexican food rolling in HURRICANE.

See how people can be accused, tried and convicted by the media and public. I'm guilty myself of just believing what I read. Let me say that I am sorry for anything negative I posted about these people. We all need to watch what we say.
