HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ)-A news crew that reports for the Middle East Al Jazeera Network arrived in town Sunday to begin coverage of the Kentucky primary.

Reporter, Mike Kirsh say, "I think people around the world, and people at home here in the United States are looking for - as many of the candidates have been saying - change."

Change, something that everyone is looking for and the Al Jazeera English network is covering it.

Posted by: HELLOOOO! on May 21, 2008 at 05:52 AM
do yourselves a favor and wikipedia or google al jazeera english. they are not a muslim network. HELLOOOOOO! jump to conlusions much, people? "if it's differnt we's better hate it cause it ain't like us so it must be eeeeeeeeeeeeeeevil" is that your philosophy?

Joe, I'm a Christian who has studied Islam (more extensively than you know - I can even speak, read and write Arabic). You're correct, there ARE people who would LOVE to see me dead because of my beliefs. ALL religions, INCLUDING MY OWN, have their fair share of evildoers. I DO believe radical Muslims are a threat to the world. BUT many in our area are just as full of hate. Watch Al Jazeera's story, for goodness' sake! Commenting that people in our area would likely use this place as a sounding board for Muslim-bashing does not make me ignorant of the ways of Sunni, Shia and terrorists who want to see the world destroyed. I am FULLY aware that some radical Muslims are actually HOPING for nuclear war, believing it will bring about the culmination of their lifelong efforts to spread Islam. Yes, there is REAL danger, but that doesn't mean that every Muslim on the planet is a terrorist. Racism/prejudice is alive and thriving EVERYWHERE. So I said it would show up here. So sue me!

Great more foreigners over here, I say we do a Tri-State sweep and load some semi's down and send them all back wherever they came from. I'm sick of them not speaking out language and I'm DEFINITELY tired of them acting like I owe them something. They're rude and they don't belong is our country especially if they can't even communicate with us.

Posted by: Jennifer on May 20, 2008 at 08:52 PM
And Joe I suppose you've had this middle east class you think Megan and I so desperately need. Maybe you should take your own advice and take that class since you think every person in the middle east consider women to be infidels. I've had several professors and students from the middle east and they have been very kind.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH U STUPID PEOPLE. VOTE FOR O BOMB US. U MIGHT AS WELL SAY THEN CRY LATER IF U MAKE IT THAT LONG .CANT U SEE TOO INCHES IN FRONT OF YOUR FACE HE; DONT CARE ABOUT U HE HAS GIVEN YOU ALL THE CLUES IN THE WORLD. Posted by: Joe on May 20, 2008 at 01:09 PM
Hey Megan and Jenniffer, Maybe since you guys are so educated, they will see you as infidels and lop off your head. If they had their way you, as women, would not go out of the house to show your face or get an education. Maybe you ought to take some more classes on the ways of the middle east and get out of your advanced oceanography class.

I assume then that the attack on the USS Cole and the embassy in Africa were elaborate preliminary attacks with the sole purposes of lending credibility to the 9-11 attack? Come on, you can't be that ignorant. The reason we have not had another attack here is based on the fact that we #1-Have kept their hands full over THERE. #2-Have seriously limited their abilities to travel and communicate as freely as they were once able to. #3-Have, through more competent surveillance, caught several BEFORE the next attack could take place. I might also point out that, while I do not agree with Bush, the planning and preparations for all the mentioned attacks occurred on Clinton's watch and were the product of an incredibly weak stance against terrorism. How many times did he promise to "hunt down those responsible", but NEVER did. In addition, he had the oppertuntiy to eliminate Bin Laden, but NEVER did. So you tell me, who's responsible here?

To all the people writing on this board stating that they want to see what kind of "spin" or how they release the media into the televisions across the pond. You dont think that the US NEWS doesn't filter what they air?? The government has a huge hand in the jacket pocket of all news stations. Have some people forgot that the anchors we see over there are from our contry doing reports on their elections?

Posted by: FUN DAYS on May 20, 2008 at 10:10 AM
NO FEAR HILLARY IS HERE WAY TO FUNNY.

Posted by: Anonymous on May 20, 2008 at 10:10 AM
Why are they even allowed to be in our country. They are constantly televising in order to incite violence against Americans. They show the gruesome torture and beheadings of innocent American citizens and its soldiers. How dare they come here!!! Let's take this opportunity to return the favor and make some great news headlines. Al Jazeera reporters beheaded while the whole world watches!!!!!!

Posted by: Jennifer on May 20, 2008 at 09:12 AM
Wow Deb! I'm from Kentucky and that video makes me feel embarrassed. I can't believe people actually think that race isn't an issue in this election. That just proves it.

Posted by: Deb on May 19, 2008 at 11:00 PM
For those who are as curious as I was, below is the link to watch the piece Al Jazeera did in Kentucky. I'm wondering if anyone else who watches it will draw the same conclusions or take note of any of the same things I did. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8J9laUNgL4

Muslim religion is not for Muslim countries. This country was founded so that people could practice what ever religion they chose. You act like every person who is Muslim is a terrorist. I go to school with several people who are Muslim and they are some of the nicest people I know. And yes some countries (not all) will not let you worship as you please and that is why a lot of people come to America because we allow the freedom to practice whatever religion they choose. Why do people have to hate Muslims so much? Maybe if you'd actually talk to one you would drop your ignorant stereotyping.

Posted by: USA on May 19, 2008 at 05:15 PM
How stupid has our nation become? Wonder who they are here to cover??? I say send them home and all like them. Muslim religion is for Muslim countries.I bet if we moved to any foreign country we would have to live by their law without compromise.

Posted by: doc on May 19, 2008 at 04:05 PM
richard, when have they attacked us in the usa within the past 7 years. could be that it was a one time thing on the same day and it helped make many rich over the iraq war while others are much poorer.

Posted by: Voter on May 19, 2008 at 03:37 PM
This is so messed up that I don't even know where to begin to comment.

Posted by: Leeandra on May 19, 2008 at 03:16 PM
Ship them back where they came from! They are not here in the best interest for our country.

Posted by: GW on May 19, 2008 at 02:49 PM
you've got to be kidding me!!!!!!

Posted by: Hubb on May 19, 2008 at 02:29 PM
Let's see what kind of spin al-Jazeera puts on this. Whatever it is, I have no doubt it will attempt to show us in a negative light.

Posted by: oh my! on May 19, 2008 at 02:15 PM
I agree Phil! This "story" is nothing more than trollbait disguised as journalism.

The ones in power in the Middle East are on pins and needles over this election. They know this election will be a test of the U.S.'s resolve and backbone, and they will be giddy if either of the two candidates on the Dem side win the election. Senator Clinton is not viewed as being as appealing as Obama, but she'll work out just fine for their purposes. They won't respect her anyway simply because she is a woman. If either of them get in, we will return to the same policies we had when Bill was in office: Bomb us, Kill us, whatever you do to us, we will not come after you. Oh we will threaten like crazy because that makes for a great T.V. spot, but when the rubber meets the road, we're not really going to do anything. THAT should then earn our 'respect' back with countries throughout the world. PUHLEESE!!

Posted by: Richard on May 19, 2008 at 12:11 PM
The Al Jazeera Network is probably on the payroll of Obama and Hillary. Of course they want change so they can come to the United States and cover the Muslims attacking us.

Posted by: Mike on May 19, 2008 at 11:42 AM
They will get the story and go back to Obama oh I mean Osama and give him the report. Osama must want to know what is going on so he can see who is going to be the next president. It is a shame that everybody thinks Obama is going to win because Bush is going to see that the republicans rule the roost yet again. I myself think we would be better with a monkey running for president. Osama is prpbably over there laughing right now saying I could use these guys to blow up the idiots running for president.

Unfortunately Phil, most comments will never get cleared to be posted. I agree with you though, that it would be nice to actually hear what folks from our region actually think about this story. For some reason, we don't seem to be politically correct enough for our opinions to be heard. I'll be suprised if this posting gets on there too.

Posted by: Concerned on May 19, 2008 at 10:20 AM
Wierd, very wierd. I have a bad vibe about this. I hope all is well.

Posted by: Jeannie on May 19, 2008 at 10:17 AM
I believe I will surprise you Phil. I would like to have access to Al-Jazeera English. I believe it only helps me understand the world better when I have many different views to analyze. But you are right, can't wait to see the posts on this one.

Posted by: kevin on May 19, 2008 at 10:13 AM
The same tv network that more than likely knows where serial killer bin laden is hiding, puts on a LA Dodgers hat and acts like journalist. Don't be fooled by their sick, twisted style of reporting. Their sole purpose is to report stories in a way that futher promotes hate and violence. Is the purpose to show that there are a few citizens from WV and KY that vote for someone because of their race or gender? Whatever they can report that will once again futher divide people and culture. The same freedom that allows them to report on these topics is the freedom that they strongly oppose, for the most part. I would love to see the final report on how this story is spun. Make sure everyone follows up on the final story as reported on their media. Then you'll see what I am talking about.

Al-Jazeera should be called The Terrorist Public Relations Network.

Posted by: Debbie on May 19, 2008 at 08:33 AM
Phil, you have to wonder why Al Jazeera is interested in a Ky. primary.

Posted by: Jennifer on May 19, 2008 at 08:32 AM
yeah I can just see it now. Every xenophobic, ignorant bigot that still thinks Obama is a muslim is going to come crawling out of the woodwork to post their hateful slandering comments that have no truth or credible backing to them.

Posted by: Megan on May 19, 2008 at 08:01 AM
I wonder how long it will take for our area's citizens to start showing their true colors in the comment boxes here? I'll be completely surprised if this doesn't end up being a sounding board for every uneducated crackpot in the area to go off about how "the Muslims" are invading our territory simply because Al Jazeera sent a TV crew to town. LOL

Posted by: Joe on May 19, 2008 at 07:45 AM
Let me guess, he is pulling for Hussein Obama? If people elect Obama, the bad guys will dance in the street, fire their AK-47's and laugh at the ignorance of the American people. It is much safer for them to fear us than laugh at our ignorance.

Posted by: Anonymous on May 19, 2008 at 07:20 AM
I have no clue who that is....

I can't wait to read what gets posted on this article. LOL
