CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Senator Robert C. Byrd announced Monday he's endorsing Presidential Hopeful Barack Obama.

In a press release, Byrd states, "This democratic primary campaign has been tough and competitive. I had no intention of involving myself in the Democratic campaign for President in the midst of West Virginia's primary election. But the stakes this November could not be higher."

He also says, "after a great deal of thought, consideration and prayer over the situation in Iraq, I have decided that, as a superdelegate to the Democratic National Convention, I will cast my vote for Senator Barack Obama for President."

Byrd also points out both Senator Obama and Senator Hillary Clinton are "extraordinary individuals, whose integrity, honor, love for this country and strong belief in our Constitution I deeply respect."

Byrd's announcement comes nearly a week after West Virginia's Primary where Senator Clinton won the vote 2 to 1.

West Virginia has 10 superdelegates. With Byrd's decision, Obama now has three of them. Senator Jay Rockefeller and Congressman Nick Rahall are the two that announced earlier this year they were backing Obama. Three have already committed to Clinton. They are party leaders Pat Maroney, Marie Prezioso, and Belinda Biafore.

We spoke to Governor Joe Manchin Monday about the election. He says he wants to see how the last few primaries turn out before he decides who he'll endorse.

I sent this message to the DNC. "The FL and MI committee to select Obama to get the delegates for him to win was an outrageous injustice to Sen. Clinton and her supporters. As in the words of Clarence Thomas, it was a "High Tech Lynching". But this time it is a woman that sits in that seat and the selected democrats are blatantly trying to get her to drop out. Look at it this way, that is, if you have the mentality to do so. Since she just won't 'get out' as you so suggest shows that she has the best ability to stand up for what is right and not give in to undue pressure. Quit brow beating her." I believe she should be able to stay in the race until it is settled correctly, not by blatant bias for Obama. The news media has been against her from the start. It's because she is a very intelligent woman and the men can't stand to see a woman outdo them. She staying in shows how strong a candidate she is and will not back down from important issues. She is what this country needs. :-) :-)

I haven't a clue of why I voted when the so called "super delegate" doesn't listen. It seems my vote really doesn't matter. I voted for Clinton and it meant nothing. So why should I vote in the final election.

(to Gary on May 21, 2008 at 01:04 PM. this country was built initially by blacks. Now you may very well be answering to a "black" man. How does that "grab ya?") This country was founded on moral and freedom of religious principles. AND about this country being built by blacks was because the slaves were sold to Americans by their own families from Africa. Obama says he is half black and half white. So what half of him is black, the outside? By the same token we can assume he is white on the inside. MLK's speech in part "not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character." Character comes from within, that being the inside. To Gary May 20, 2008 at 01:08 PM.. "redneck hicks" who is mad at the "world" because everyone doesnt think along the same ignorant ways that "you people" do..with a name like "chick", I bet you are dumb and uneducated, like your peers..Lol, ha ha, shame on you dummy!! The Lord loves the lesser among us, not the arrogant. So SHAME ON YOU.

Posted by: Gary on May 23, 2008 at 02:54 PM
Well Tyler, who would you vote for? Anyone else whose didnt support a "black man?'. I bet you dont know anything about politics or better yet life period. Just as I thought...dumb, ignorant redneck, it figures!! May God Bless You my pitiful lost soul.

Bush got elected because he like to thump his bible. After 7 years of him I don't think that was the answer Billy. I think I would rather pay a little more for cigars and Altoids instead of paying $4.00 a gallon for gas.

Posted by: Ohio on May 22, 2008 at 11:59 AM
"Chris 1:13pm", you said Ohio, West Virgina and Kentucky have a huge base of less-educated, poorer white voters. That suggests that you are more-educated, richer black voter. Good for you if you are. It appears from your arrogance of demeaning people, you are just a die-hard, run-of-the-mill "person" trying to pat yourself on the back trying to be 'somebody'. You really are somebody, look in the mirror. Aren't you sooooo proud of yourself?

Posted by: Anonymous on May 22, 2008 at 12:19 AM
Hey Sheila, Obama used his own personal Bible when he was sworn in...HE DID NOT USE THE QURAN. Check out this link if you dont believe me. http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/238/ Also a long lost relative of yours overseas has passed away and left you a large amount of money. Simply send me your bank information and i will transfer funds....STUPID.

Posted by: Buckeye on May 21, 2008 at 11:25 PM
To Billy Hill: Thanks for proving my point of how much one's race matters to your "uneducated" opinions by implying that I was non-caucasian. Does your Bible teach you to be prejudice? However, I hate to disappoint you, but I am caucasian. Do you think better of me now? By the way, why are you are complaining about the current shape of our country? Are you unaware that we have had a president that has been picking up his Bible and thumping it for eight long years? Hillary Clinton played the people of WV with her "gas tax holiday" like a con artist scamming the elderly.

There goes my support for Senator Byrd. I thought that the superdelegates of West Virginia would go with what the popular vote went for. I'll never support Byrd, Rockefeller, or Rahall. And I won't support Manchin in NOvember if he endorses Obama.

Posted by: Elmer on May 21, 2008 at 09:37 PM
To all the delegates that endorsed Obama, we the democrats of the state elected you to represent us and our votes, and by not doing so you are low lifes. I will not be voting for you anymore and I hope no one else in the state will vote for you because your saying our votes are worthless.

Posted by: Angi on May 21, 2008 at 09:26 PM
Wouldn't it be nice to let Byrd and everyone have their own opinion and thoughts. What right do any of you have to tell them they are wrong. Maybe they think you are wrong. Who cares that you don't vote for them again. They will find smart educated people to vote for them. They don't need the votes of those who probably have never been out of the hills of West Virginia. If you would have been then you would see how the rest of the United States live.

Posted by: JENNIFER on May 21, 2008 at 05:48 PM
To Buckeye and D-Bo Ice: I'm voting you two president and vice president. I hope you two are bitter, white Christians who cling to their guns and bibles. LOL! I love it! Great stuff guys! Go OBAMA!

Posted by: RoaneCo. on May 21, 2008 at 04:15 PM
After reading Tim's comment my ribs were hurting from laughing so hard. Here is a person saying that he is a "lifelong Democrat" and he doesn't understand how the democrat party can "put a closet republican on our ticket" but if Obama wins he will "vote for McCain the stronger of the candidates". I guess Buckeye hit the nail on the head!!

Posted by: Chris on May 21, 2008 at 01:13 PM
Its about time that he does something right! Ohio, West Virgina and Kentucky have a huge base of less-educated , poorer white voters . That is the only reason she has done so good there . After last nights huge win for Obama , it is impossible for her to do anything at this point. Look for Obama to get to that "magical" number this week with more super delegates moving over to his camp. OBAMA "08"

Posted by: Gary on May 21, 2008 at 01:04 PM
Well, get used to it. Obama may be your next President!!! How will you so-called righteous folks deal with having a Black President? Obviously, this election is bringing all the "evil, devilish thoughts" to the surface. If you all are so religious, whats with all the fuss? After all, this country was built initially by blacks. Now you may very well be answering to a "black" man. How does that "grab ya?"

Posted by: Melinda on May 21, 2008 at 11:32 AM
YOU KNOW WHAT THAT'S PRETTY BAD WHEN A SENATOR WHO WAS IN "KKK" ENDORSES A AFRICAN AMERICAN. OVER A WHITE WOMAN. WHEN DID HIS RACISM CHANGE? IT WAS EVEN ON JAY LENO WHO BYRD WAS IN THE KKK AND THEN ENDORSES OBAMA I WONDER IF OBAMA KNOWS WHAT HE HAS DONE IN HIS PAST? SHAME ON YOU BYRD.

Posted by: booger on May 21, 2008 at 10:17 AM
Race has nothing to do with why WV voted for Clinton. Both Clintons have always campaigned hard in WV. Both have always treated WV like it's important to them, not just an annoying stop in the road like Obama has. The entire Clinton family was here for weeks in WV. Where was Obama? In a bigger more "important" area, talking about how we're poor uneducated rifle-toting rednecks. Sorry, I'd rather vote for someone I've actually met on several occasions. Not someone I have to pay for that once in a lifetime chance to see, like some sort of rockstar. Sorry, I'll vote for someone who's proven they care about my home state. Not someone who ignores us.

Posted by: Jess on May 21, 2008 at 09:53 AM
does being a "non-caucasion, and non-veteran" make someone a bad person? Can you show me n the bible where it says whites are better then blacks?....... people elected Bush cause he was anti abortion n anti gays did he change anything? Now hes raking n money from the high gas prices giving tax cuts to the rich giving millions of dollars to a country that dont want it when our own people are homless n starving from hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, n countless other reasons. yeah vote Republican n when you or someone you love loses thier home n job dont complain. Both Clinton and obama are pro Choice so stop using abortion as an excuse to not vote obama get your facts strait lets here a real reason not to vote for him other then his color. Stop acting stupid n making stupid choices n then maybe your opinion will count n maybe our country will move up instead of declining as it is now

I had recently been made aware of a clip on YouTube that shows Obama flipping off Hillary. How immature of a man that is running for the most powerful position in the world. I don't want a man like that running my country, not to mention how socialist and communistic he is. He also feels it is ok to kill a baby if it is born alive after a failed abortion. (Hitler did, too.) He introduced a Global Economic Tax, which gives the UN control over the global economy, and will allow them to keep "peace" on the streets even in the USA. I don't want any other nation deciding what is best for the US. This is not the kind of change I want. Change is good, but if change goes the wrong way, it is bad. Obama supports radicals and fascists. While he may have been given the "nod" from "our beloved most esteemed Senator Byrd", it is not the right choice. It is merely a vote against the Clintons. Byrd needs to go, right along with Rockefeller and Manchin.

Posted by: Gary on May 21, 2008 at 09:31 AM
Chick-If you are so educated, wheres the proof about Obama being the anti-christ? Are you that ignorant? Are you Bamboozoled into believing into crazy, of the wall stories? Yes! You are "educated", if thats your definition. Oh! by the way, with a Masters, you need to check your English too!!!

Senator Byrd, even know i think you made the wrong choice. Your friend Governor Graley still supports you. Thanks, Graley

Senator Byrd, As you know you are my hero. I just cant believe you could endorse Obama i mean Hillarys plans are great. I also know Jay Rockfeller and he will not get my vote but you will get my vote just next time try to make better choices. Thanks,

I'm with Billy Hill - Buckeye you are as big of an idiot as "DoDo Byrd" and "Osama Obama". I'm also with "Chick"! I don't know if anyone knows this or not but when Osama Obama was sworn in as Senator he refused to use the Bible - but rather used the Koran - what does this tell you???? DUH. Also, until recently you would not have caught him with a flag lapel pin because he doesn't salute our flag. I guess someone enlightened him about wearing the symbol of our great country. I just cannot believe the people in the US would honestly put him in office. I speak for myself and many others when I say if Hillary drops out, McCain will definitely become president - he will get my vote and many others who refuse to "make history" by voting in Osama Obama.

These comments just keep getting more ridiculous and telling. Im now convinced that my state is so racist and uninformed that it will never be taken seriously. Time to step out of the past and into the now people. ok, so you like Hillarys political views, but if she doesnt win the nomination , you would rather vote for the exact opposite in McCain than to vote for the black man with very similar views??????....RACISM?????? Hes not a Christian because his African father named him after his ancestors?????....Whatever you say there Bubba E Lee. You Idiots make me sick. For the first time in my adult life, I can say that Im truly ashamed of my state. This state needs an enema...Racist Rednecks and Religious Nuts.... step to the front of the line Please.

To Buckeye: If more people would pick their Bible up and thump it now and then, maybe our country wouldn't be in the awful shape it is today. Let me take an "uneducated" guess about your personal profile. You're either agnostic or athiest, pro-abortion, non-caucasion, and non-veteran.

Posted by: Anonymous on May 21, 2008 at 01:40 AM
Im a Democrat who will definitly vote Republican in the fall if Obama gets the nomination!

Posted by: Tim on May 21, 2008 at 01:36 AM
Obama has said that the delegates should vote the way that the popular vote has gone but you bet he won't mind keeping the super delegates of states that defeated him soundly. This shows that he is nothing but a typical politician out for his own prize. And for you Buckeye if you look it is pretty easy to be right about a topic when you did not even have the power to vote on it anyway. I am so sick of hearing about how right he was on day one when he didn't even have a vote in it and even if he did he probably would have just voted present like he did so many times while in the Ill Senate. It is easy to say you are right on something when you do not vote yes or no but present only. Obama is a con-man plain and simple and as a lifelong Democrat because of his past voting record and comments of his own words I will not support him I will vote for McCain the stronger of the candidates. I just don't understand how the party can put in a closet republican on our ticket.

OK. I'm a West Virginian. Like many, I left right after high school. Now it's many years later. Now do I want to do what others do at retirement time....Move back there?

Posted by: MMM on May 20, 2008 at 11:58 PM
Where does Byrd live anymore? I mean, he's been in the senate so long for this state that he's probably been declared a citizen of another state like Maryland. He doesn't know what WV really needs anyways because he hasn't lived here in so long. He wasn't too against the Iraq war, he just wanted it more controlled like an exact time of when our troops could come home. He voted for Obama because he didn't like the Clintons to begin with and he wouldn't vote anything other than democrat. If he's helped this state so much, then why are we still at the bottom of every list imaginable other than coal production and obesity? I'm an educated West Virginian and from Byrd's "home county". But I just don't think that he, in his advanced age, makes the best decisions for this state. I don't really care who he endorses. I'll vote who I want because that's the freedom I was granted by being born in the USA. I just wish there were better individuals in which to choose.

Posted by: Ace on May 20, 2008 at 11:53 PM
This is why so many people don`t vote, it`s a crock of crap. Yes Sen. Byrd made history by being the oldest and most elected senator in this nation`s history. But now he did it again as one of the most ignorant individuals in West Virginia. The same people that voted him in just got sold out. ANOTHER ELECTION TAKEN FROM THE PEOPLE BY OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS. Hillary won by a land slide, so why don't you just give the delegates to Obama? The people have no voice anymore about what has happended to this country. We need to take it back and hold the politians accountable. If not, why even go vote? Take the gas money and do something better with it. I think this one should be taken to the courts and if that doesn't work, the he// with it.....

Posted by: Anonymous on May 20, 2008 at 11:36 PM
You people do realize that a presidential election is based on a vote by the people of America and not just WV. Byrd, Rockefeller, and Rahall did follow the people's choice. Their choice is now officially Barack Obama and there is no way the party could survive if the super delegates were to overturn that. Give up Hillary supporters it is over!!!!!!!

Posted by: Americas on May 20, 2008 at 11:25 PM
Bird says he prays meaning he thinks he a Christian. If he is a Christian then why is he is he endorsing a non Christian, baby killing and gay rights person? I guess God will ask him real soon, he's pretty much on his death bed any how.

Posted by: Amanda on May 20, 2008 at 10:57 PM
I guess Sen. Byrd wants us to become a obamanation? Now I know that the people's votes does not matter at all!!!! It is time for the people of WV to band together and remove the out of touch and out of date Senator. Clinton all the way!!!!

Posted by: Buckeye on May 20, 2008 at 10:41 PM
Sen. Byrd is a great American and deserves the respect of his under-educated state. I also think Mr. Byrd understands the issues infinitely better than his constituents, so I'll let his opinion carry a little more weight than the uneducated, Bible-thumping, racists calling him an idiot on this site. Get out of the pre-1960's mindset WV. You're embarrassing our region and nation. You don't have to like Obama or agree with all of his policies, but the negativity toward him on this site is extremely narrow-minded and rooted in obvious prejudice. One has to wonder why WV votes against Obama in a landslide and the rest of the nation pretty much splits the vote between Clinton and Obama. Let me guess, WV has great insight and is waiting for the rest of the nation to catch up. One more thing, Byrd and Obama sure has it right on the Iraq War from the beginning. Keep LEADING your people Mr. Byrd!!!

Posted by: outraged on May 20, 2008 at 10:35 PM
you know i dont want to down anyone but i believe that our delegates made a huge mistake by backing obama they have now lost several peoples votes including mine and they have made many people feel their is no reason to vote because they just showed it goes the way they want anyway.so why bother..

First let me say that I agree the State leaders should be the peoples voice and I think Sen Byrd has been a great leader for Wv. As I watched Sen.Byrd today on cspan talk about Sen Kennedy I felt sorry for him.I know he loves what he does but has it came time for him to step aside I don't know him and may be wrong,is his health good enough for him to cont.serving? Sometimes in our life we have to face things and I think its time for Sen. Byrd to go home and enjoy Wv and let someone else deal with the problems and retire with the name he has had all these yrs of being a great leader for Wv/U.S. and not let something like this drag him down. He needs to buy him a farm on top of a mountian and sit on his porch and look out over the great Wv he has took care of for so many yrs and enjoy the rest of his life with family and neighbors helping him now instead of him having to help them.I am not from Wv but have always admired him as a leader Good luck Sen. Byrd and Thanks!

How am I showing my true colors? I'm giving my opinion like every other person is on here. No, I'm not a redneck although I see nothing wrong with them and yes I am VERY educated. I have a MASTERS DEGREE Thank You Very Much. I'm not hurting for money in any way shape or form. Byrd use to be in the KKK but now he's for an African American. Maybe he's color blind. You probably voted for the anti-christ too. Too Bad you lost. This man doesn't stand for the pledge but let's endorse him, that's real smart. I'm not racist and I have never been. Barack isn't for America and that's why he doesn't need to be representing the American people, that's why I'm not for him. Oh and by the way, I'm glad you little "Quotation Marks" work, they're cute Garry :)

I would like to state that I do not agree with what our elected officials have done by going against the wishes of the people of the great state of West Virginia. The people have voiced their choice, Hillary Clinton thus, Byrd, Rockefeller, and Rahall should abide by the wishes of the people who put them in office. I was distraught to think that my vote did not matter when I read that Rockefeller and Rahall had already endorsed Obama, I sent an email to all three. Much to my surprise none of the three have bothered to answer me; what has our country become? When an elected official will not bother to answer a tax paying citizen to speak to why they made the choice they did, I had to pinch myself to determine if I still live in the USA. The entire election process established in part by the Framers of our Constitution is being disregarded to meet the desires of a select few in our vast country. I say we continue to vote, vote all of them out of office! They'll respond to that!

Posted by: waaa on May 20, 2008 at 09:03 PM
Ok people quit crying and show a little intelligence there is nothing that says a super delegates has to vote for the same person that the majority votes for and if that was the case this would of been over with along time ago and you would not of had a primary then it would not have mattered any way because clinton would have been out in march so get over it nothing is ever fair about elections i wanted to vote for a change in my counties sheriff's office but because i vote dem. i could not vote for the best man for the job because there were no dems running so i have to settle for a second rate crook as sheriff and if the dem voters could have voted a split ticket in the primary then we could of had change in the general election but no we got to put up with corruption for awhile longer so until someone comes up with a better way to do it there is going to be unhappy people just be glad you get to vote at all

Honestly, I believe these delegates are voting the way they want to based on the candidates, rather than the racial prejudice we have been witnessing these past few weeks. This, of course, is the honorable thing to do. It saddens me that our region has come no further than it has regarding race relations.

Everyone saying we should do away with the super delegates... do you realize this election would be over tonight if it weren't for super delegates? If you are so for Hillary then why don't you realize that super delegates are the only chance you have at seeing her win. She will not run as an independent, she is staying in this as long as she has to keep Obama behind McCain. The longer she stays in the worse his chances are in November, and the easier it is for her to win the nomination in 2012.

WITH SENATORS LIKE THESE WE DON'T NEED ENEMIES. THE DEMORCRATIC PARTY WONDER WHY DEMOCRATS DON'T VOTE. OT'S THINGS LIKE THESE THAT THE DEMOCRATIC LEADERS DO THAT MAKE IT SEEM LIKE IT DON'T MATTER. I'M CONSIDERING VOTING FOR REPULICAN BECAUSE OF THIS. I URGE THE PEOPLE OF WV TO REMEMBER THIS COME NEXT ELECTION OF WHAT THE SENATORS HAVE DONE.

Posted by: kandice on May 20, 2008 at 02:35 PM
Does he think by doing this it makes up for his association with the KKK all those years ago? The man has officially lost his mind, and so has anyone else that votes for this idiot Obama.

Posted by: BRACK on May 20, 2008 at 02:31 PM
I WOULD LIKE EVERYONE TO KNOW HOW I FEEL ABOUT SEN. BYRD PLEDGING HIS VOTE FOR OBAMA AFTER THE STATE WENT FOR CLINTON. OUR DELEGATES ARE SUPPOSED TO BE REPRESENTING US. LOOKS LIKE THEY'RE NOT. ROCKEFELLER, BYRD, RAHALL, SUPPORT OBAMA. IT IS SAID THAT THE VOICE OF THE PEOPLE ISN'T BEING HEARD. THE POPULAR VOTE SHOULD COUNT FOR SOMETHING. REMEMBER THESE PEOPLE THE NEXT TIME YOU VOTE. AS THEY LIKE TO HEAR IT'S TIME FOR CHANGE.

i cant belive this people wake up OBAMA = AntiCHRIST

McCain For President. Voice from a strong WV democrat, not happy, but no other choice. The stupid democrats have blew it again knowing we desparately needed a change.

Posted by: MJ on May 20, 2008 at 01:44 PM
This election, like many in the past, is crazy. Who cares what candidate Senator Byrd supports. Are the American people not smart enough to choose the best candidate? Is the media picking our representatives now also? Stop the media from reporting...stop so called endorsements...Please let me VOTE! Without all the so called endorsements!

Posted by: Gary on May 20, 2008 at 01:08 PM
Say there Chick? Or whatever your "name" is, are you showing your "true" colors about Byrd and Obama? Seems you dont know anything about Presidential politics, or even better yet, nothing! I bet you are one of those "redneck hicks" who is mad at the "world" because everyone doesnt think along the same ignorant ways that "you people" do....with a name like "chick", I bet you are dumb and uneducated, like your peers...Lol, ha ha, shame on you dummy!!!

Posted by: GO HILLARY GO on May 20, 2008 at 01:07 PM
I am starting to hear more and more about Hillary running as an Independent if she doesn't get the nomination. John McCain's vote is already split because former Republican senator from Georgia is running on the Libertarian Ticket for President. So there is plenty room for Hillary KEEP running after this stupid primary is over...AS AN INDEPENDENT. If you look at the states she has won she could very likely win the Presidency as in independent. Its time we shake up this process anyway. If no one wins the 270 electoral votes to automatically win the Presidency then the House of Representatives decide and it is and will be controlled by Democrats. If she has more electoral votes than Obama and McCain (and she will) they will vote for her to be the next President. Hope is ALIVE and her name is HILLARY!!!!!

Posted by: Bob on May 20, 2008 at 01:00 PM
Maybe now people in West Virginia will take his name off everything in their state. While passing through the state last week, I think I saw the Robert C. Byrd portable restroom(aka “Johnny on the Spot”) on I-64.

Let's get Byrd & J out

Posted by: Heribie on May 20, 2008 at 12:38 PM
We feel like our votes don't count or we have been disenfranchised by delgates or super delegates. Especially when one like Sen. Byrd, after we pledged our support for Hillary, turned against us and went for Obama. We need change like doing away with delegates and super delegates who say they speak for the people, when in fact they speak for themselves. We remember them next election!

Posted by: Anonymous on May 20, 2008 at 12:18 PM
Congrats !! to Pat, Marie, Belinda, & hopefully, our Gov , why you anybody vote for a man that read a book called common ground & then trys to run a campaign on it, i have always voted for Jay , but he never came out and ever endorsed local canidates , !! so whats in it for Jay? and as for Obama, No way !! as a Democrat i'll risk it & take Mccain.....

Posted by: Ashley on May 20, 2008 at 12:16 PM
Why is it such a big deal?? Everyone has their opinion and there is no need to get on here and talk about it. Everyone is WV is not going to agree so why even say who u want to win? I know who i want to win but i also think that this is a historical moment A African American and a woman.. Cant we just be proud of that??

Posted by: Mike on May 20, 2008 at 12:02 PM
Why would the Superdeligates from a state that has choosen another canidate endorese the other. I think that All of or So called Superdeligates need to get with the program and choose who their state has chosen. Hillary clinton Won WV so i think that they should back the state

Posted by: Nancy on May 20, 2008 at 11:57 AM
Senator Byrd Why did you go against the 'will of the people' and endorse Obama when the majority of our people in the State of WV voted for Senator Clinton. What makes you think the marjority will not vote all the Democrats out of office this coming fall? Think about that... I do not intend to support any Democrat who supports Obama. The so-called Super-Delegates do not represent the 'will of the people.'

Posted by: Ohio voter on May 20, 2008 at 11:35 AM
To "na" of Ky. If you are really a democrat and support Sen. Clinton as your comment tends to makes us believe, then I urge you to vote. With Byrd, Rockefeller and Rahall endorsing Obama, it just reveals to the world that it is still "the good ol' boys" club. Have you noticed Obama has his eyes on Sen. Clinton's delegates for his VP should he be nominated? He knows he needs her voters. hmmmm!!! Not mine.......Go Hillary....

Posted by: Jeff on May 20, 2008 at 11:18 AM
I just hope that Manchin has enough sense to go with the majority of the people that elected him. This just adds to the list of another dem. I can not vote for.

Posted by: Renee McGraw on May 20, 2008 at 10:59 AM
I just want to let Senator Rockefeller, and Senator Robert Byrd, and Congressman Nick Rahall know that I will never vote for either of them again after they have agreed to back Obama in his bid for president. I think this is a very big mistake and I think that every West Virginian (at least 78% of them) fell the same way. I hope that everyone who supports Hillary will also not support these men in the next election.

Posted by: Bologna on May 20, 2008 at 10:25 AM
All you people saying you will not vote for Byrd or Rockefeller again are full of it. Most of you probably vote a straight democrat ticket, because you are not willing to find out anyone's position on issues or even what the job they are running for actually is. If you knew that you probably wouldn't vote for 90% of the idiots you put in office.

Posted by: Anonymous on May 20, 2008 at 10:16 AM
WHAT!!!! Are you kidding ME! Well, I know right now that my Vote does NOT go toward Byrd anymore. I have always been a supporter of Mr. Byrd but this is crazy. I guess Mr. Byrd doesnt respect the people of his state to see what side they are on. Come on, Clinton won by so much and he still votes for Obama!!:?:? Sorry Mr. Byrd but you just screwed up, the people of WV have spoken and WE DO NOT WANT THAT MAN RUNNING OUR COUNTRY. And now I do not want you to have anything to do with WV!!

Posted by: Allie on May 20, 2008 at 09:37 AM
Please educate yourselves before you post these rediculous comments. Secondly no matter who you Dems put into office McCain will be the next POTUS!

Posted by: How fast on May 20, 2008 at 09:18 AM
See how fast you all change your tune when things dont go your way just a few weeks ago when byrd told people to shut up about his age most of the very people that are dogging him here was praising him he was great and the best thing that ever happened to wva since findimg coal But now it seems everyone wants to lynch him he is just trying to help you ignorant hill jacks he knows obama is going to win and to save any chance of wva prospering in the future he has thrown in if not what do you think would happen to a state that voted 2 to 1 for the opposition yhis is why your so far behind now so stop and think or go ahead and vote him out maybe clinton will move their and run for the senate and help you out but i doubt that since she has already said forget the uneducated voters of wva and kentucky when bill was running but you all was the ones who forgot and she really thinks your stupid now So she wont be moving no where near that god forsaken place her words check it out and shut up

Posted by: Mike on May 20, 2008 at 08:26 AM
I am a democrat that will vote Republican the first time in my life before voting for Obama. I will not be a part of the downfall of this country.

Posted by: Tammy on May 20, 2008 at 08:24 AM
Our delegates are definitely NOT the VOICE OF THE PEOPLE. It's funny how when they want our vote they'll just about promise us anything... but when it's obvious who we want president ... they do their own thing. Quite pathetic.

Posted by: Anonymous on May 20, 2008 at 08:23 AM
Why does everyone say their vote does not count. Their were 28 delegates up for grabs on the 13th and Hillary won 20 to Obama's 8. Both candidates have 3 superdelegates making the total number of delegates 23 to 11. I for one am glad WV's leaders are smarter than our people and are trying to save the party come November by trying to get Clinton out of this thing when she can't win. Obama secures the majority of delegates decided by the people's vote with 16 delegates today... it is over people wake up and realize if you want Hillary that bad start raising money for her in 2012 because it can't happen this year.

Posted by: Sheila on May 20, 2008 at 08:21 AM
boy, is this the pot calling the kettle "black"? does anyone remember that this idiot used to be the "grand poobah" or whatever it's called of the KKK? once again he shows just what an idiot he is. i've posted before about him and once again i'll say "go home dodo byrd and sit on the porch". he should have retired 30 years ago! he has become a huge embarrassment for the people of WV.

Posted by: Doug on May 20, 2008 at 08:10 AM
We are now clearly in a state of taxsation without representation of the people. The citizens have been raped and disgraced by Byrd, Rockefeller, Rahall, and this sick joke we have for a governor. If this don't tell the voters of this state and the nation it's time for a big change then our country is gone. I am embarrassed, ashamed and feel disgraced to be a part of this state and the direction of the nation as it stands with Byrd and Rockefeller. A clear vote from the people this November is all that will make a change. We are witnesses to the loss of the democratic party and everything Roosevelt accomplished and stood for, the working/citizens and taxpayers. Don't feel bad about voting McCain or Russ Weeks it can't get any worse than we have now ! ! It's our duty as an American to vote out the ones that don't represent the will of the citizens with honesty and unbasis practices..

Posted by: Gary on May 20, 2008 at 06:56 AM
So much for thunking my VOTE really counts. Am I wrong? Did'nt the people of WV Vote and did they not soundly defeat Obama. Now the whole election process is a waste, because of a politician who thinks he knows best is taking our vote away and giving it to the loser. Wasnt he elected to take our combined concerns to Washington. The Voice of the Majority should prevail. Am I wrong here?

Posted by: Mike on May 20, 2008 at 06:55 AM
I thought Senator Byrd used to be in the KKK. Honestly.

Posted by: Bev on May 20, 2008 at 04:17 AM
JEAN were you asleep during the last election? It was just as interesting as this one. I don't know about the rest of America but I have never just voted and then WAITED for a candidate..whatever that means. I didn't realize Obama invented the computer either. I mean I've been whining and complaining on here for years. Way before I ever had the misfortune of knowing this man. The only thoughts you produced in my mind are "Has this person taken their daily meds?" and "Poor thing, I hope they have proper supervision." Yes, I am empowered...........to vote for Hillary, lol.

Posted by: Ben on May 20, 2008 at 03:43 AM
What has Byrd Done besides put his name on just about everything that doesn't walk. Streets named after him Seen on the news that W.V. state capital thiers a statue of him like who cares. The man needs to step down go home, and take his walking sticks with him. Time for some FRESH blood in office new ideas.

Well the time is here for the way that leaders are elected changes. We have no need for the electoral college anymore popular vote should be the way we elect our leaders. I also think that there should only be a handful of dates for these primaries to be held on instead of drawing out for months and months this would allow both parties to have a nominee around the same time. With this type of nominee process there would be no need for the super delegates either and with no electoral college the vote of the people would be the only votes that counted and not just a few people actually determining exactly whom our president is just like the last two presidential elections where GWB stole away the elections. Also caucuses should be done away with altogether and only popular votes counted I think that more people would show up to vote if they thought that their votes could actually make a difference when the election was over. Times need to change and this means our election process.

Posted by: AMERICAN VOTER on May 20, 2008 at 02:42 AM
Maybe the "supers" dont have anything 2 do with d college but we all know that what really matters is what goes on behind d scenesand despite his age Byrd commands ALOT of power, I cant believe he done this, there is something thats not right about this picture.Obama will prob get the nomination although that most of America wanted Clinton, WHY VOTE? we seem 2b a communist nation a better word would b closet communists does anyone remember Al Gore? I take or should I say took great pride n our nation, but look at what weve bcome,NONE of d candidates r worthy 2 lead what was once a great nation, but Hillary is d less of all evils. And our leaders seem 2 think we dont matter,I was/am 4 Clinton but if Obama won the state d leaders should go with him thats d heart of democracy,What do u think Washington, Franklin,or all of d founders of this nation would say if they saw us now? America seems 2 no longer 4d principals upon which we were founded. God help us all

Byrd is too old to function and he obviously isn't right in his old mind. It's time for him to be out, but of course anyone who votes for Barack is out of their mind. If Hillary doesn't get in, I'll vote Republican before I'll vote for Barack. Enough Said.

Posted by: Jean on May 20, 2008 at 01:26 AM
Folks, you would not have the faintest idea what a super delegate is if it were not for BARACK OBAMA! This man's campaign is historical! Primaries have been going on for years and all you did was vote and WAIT until the candidate was chosen. NOW you are aware, a little bit educated, but you can moan, cry, curse or whatever. You never had that opportunity in your life because it has NEVER been this interesting! When have you even been able to get on your computer and moan, complain, or whatever??? NEVER! Again, thanks to Sen.Obama, the guy most of us didn't have a clue about a year or so ago, you can now do so. You have been empowered whether you recognize it or not! Byrd looks out for WV..he knows what he's doing though he is ill. If you let the media think you were very important, shame on you. THINK!!! Byrd paid his dues, made his apologies long ago and acknowledges his error. Yes, I expect this will just rile you up a bit more, but just want to do my part to keep you THINKING!

Posted by: Phil on May 20, 2008 at 01:21 AM
Byrd is an old, delusional piece of crap, endorsing that Uppity Obama, what would his mamma think?

Posted by: Stephanie on May 20, 2008 at 01:12 AM
this is why I feel like I should just quit voting because to me it doesn't do no good to go and vote. i feel like my voice don't get heard. I want Hillary to win because i feel she would be good for the job.

Posted by: D on May 20, 2008 at 01:04 AM
I can't believe this! What about what the people of WV want. Again I guess we have no voice! Byrd you are in the same class as Rockefeller and Rahall. You dont listen to the people who put you in your office. Obama will be the fall of this country.

Posted by: Eric on May 20, 2008 at 12:19 AM
Maybe Byrd supports Obama, for the same reasons that he has the Majority of the US behind him. CHANGE!!!!!!!!!!!Now when most of the people who responded might like the fact that we are paying $4 dollars a gallon for gas, or that We are in a War that may never end!!!!!!!!!! Maybe, the reason is that he doesn't like the direction this COUNTRY is headed. Please don't exercise a Priviledge to Vote based on the Color Of Ones Skin!!!!!!!! Clinton has just as much baggage as Obama, please remember Monica and the USS Cole, when her infamous husband was President. Maybe Byrd doesn't want history to repeat itself!!!!!!! So West Virginia be appreciative of the Pork Belly King!!! Respect his Endorsements and be grateful to have a National Treasure in Washington representing WV!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Frankly on May 20, 2008 at 12:18 AM
When will the working taxpayers of this state wake up. If this isn't enough for everyone to see what Byrd, Rockefeller, and Rahall is, then they do own this state and you in it. Th
