CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Kanawha County Sheriff's Deputies say they got more than 40-thousand dollars worth of marijuana off the streets.

The bust happened around 1:00am Wednesday morning in Whitaker. That's in the Paint Creek Area of Kanawha County.

Deputies say when they served a search warrant at Robert Lee Smith's home they found 22 marijuana plants and four high powered rifles.

According to investigators, Smith is prohibited to carry a firearm as a result of a 1992 conviction.

Smith was arrested and charged with cultivating marijuana and being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm.

Deputies say Mitchell Dean White was also arrested in connection with the case. He faces a cultivating marijuana charge.

Deputies say the marijuana has a estimated street value of $44,000.

WTF...Easy on the meth bro..Its ok..Slow down, take a breath, and use a period. Didnt they teach you how to write when you took your GED..

By the way the estimate is reached like this. A full grown plants yields approximately two pounds of marijuana. Each pound is sold for approximately $1000 dollars. 2000 x 22 equals $44,000. If you dopeheads would drop the pipe you could do the math too.

$44,000.00!!! I think KCSD has a bag of Hillbilly pot confused with a tank full of Bush gas.

First dozens mean at least 24 and this said 22 so its not dozens and at the rate of price per pound these must have been some donkey buds hanging already when will these so called experts ever start telling the truth and quit grandstanding for the uneducated masses that they keep in the dark guess that is why so many growers plant give away plots let the law find the males and feed these awe inspired police worshippers with a lie about how much pot they are keeping off the street when the stuff was meant for them to find and right down the road the females are doing just fine and there will be smoke for all come november

THE SCARY PART IS ALL THE PEOPLE WILLING TO JUMP IN AND DEFEND NOT EVEN THINKING ABOUT WHAT THIS IS TEACHING THE KIDS THAT LIVE IN THE SAME HOUSE WITH HIM, 1:00 AM DID THEY GO TO SCHOOL THE NEXT DAY OR DID THEY GET EXCUSED BY THE POLICE DEPT, AND ARE THEY BEING RAISED THAT THIS IS OK, WHETHER YOU THINK IT IS OR NOT IT IS STILL ILLEGAL AT THE PRESENT TIME AND WHEN THERE ARE KIDS LIVING IN THE SAME HOUSE THIS SHOULD BE HANDLED AS A MORE SERIOUS CHARGE ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY HAVE GUNS IN THE HOME AND HE IS A CONVICTED PERSON ALREADY. REMEMBER THE KIDS AND BABYS THAT ARE DEALING WITH THESE PEOPLES IRRATIONAL BEHAVIOR EVERYDAY AND THEY DO NOT HAVE A CHOICE, BETTER YET THE KIDS SHOULD BE PULLED FROM THESE HOMES WHEN THIS KIND OF PERSON HAS OBVIOUSLY BEEN IN TROUBLE MORE THAN THE ONE TIME. LOOK AT THERE WORK HISTORY ARE THEY BEING FIRED, QUITTING ? CIRCUMSTANCES, ARE THEY RCVING FOOD STAMPS AND OTHER ASSTNCE, THEY SHOULD HAVE TO TAKE INTO CONSID THIS INCOME AND DONT GIVE THEM ASST; PAY TAXES

What a bunch of crock.Theres more important issues at stake such as murders, rapists, heroine, meth, crack, and dui's and such.Go after the people that I mentioned that do those things and maybe the world would be a better place.I'd rather smoke weed then be whacked on crack.Legalize weed !!!

You better stop smoking pot or you will end up at home all day posting comments.

Posted by: Ryan on May 22, 2008 at 12:40 PM
Eddie, you must not know many educated or productive people if they smoke pot to relax. Educated is not graduating high school.

Everyone is concerned about the pot, but what about the convicted felon with multiple assult rifles? Im not worried about pot as much as I am that.

I agree, its very relaxing, its herbal!DUDES... If the law would go after the meth heads and all that other crap, and after all of the murderes on the streets instead of being barny fifes, things would be alot better!

WoW Like that is a big deal the cops over estamated the cash value again. They always do and why is that I wonder they do that so they can get money to line their pockets. The fact is that other countries view us as a CASH COW because in the rest of the world pot is leagal and they ship it in to the dealers and make money off of it. Pot will never be legalized because the more pot that gets found the more money they get. I think just like sone people it should be leagal but it will never happen. Realy what does pot do for people besides make them hungry and lauph alot it isnt like most other drugs u never hear it on the news about people overdosing on it or even killing anyone like pills and booz, but it is in the same classification as the other drugs like meth,heroine,etc..,GET REAL!!!!!

Well we all know what the Kanawha County Sheriff deputies are doing tonight now don't we? TOKEIN' IT UP BOYS! Someone should check on them.

WSAZ post this. It is good 2c that some people r smart enough 2 understand this. The reason that they overestimate the street value is that they get funding based upon d $. Check it out 4 yourself ,if they seize 40,000$ worth they get that much funding, it will never b legalized because d players on both sides dont want it 2b. The police because of d funding, and the politicians likewise, little of the $ goes 4 its intended purpose, they stick it n2 their pockets anduse it 2 keep up their mistresses etc.., the loss of funding would cause alot of them trouble. Dealers because thats the way they make a living,I dont smoke but I think it should b legalized because of d lives that r ruined due 2 its illegal nature, moms, dads, sons, daughters, all go 2 jail and leave behind their loved ones.not 2 mention the $ that d govt. gets from fines, cort costs,etc.., and from the prisoners themselves: free labor from prisoners.its all about $!!!

Great Job Deputies! It's weeds like this and others drugs that get people used, hurt and killed! Get all the Dealers!

Posted by: WV Citizen on May 21, 2008 at 10:39 PM
Kelly, maybe they want to act like they are doing something just to keep the use of their coke covered up.

Posted by: Anonymous on May 21, 2008 at 06:20 PM
Shouldn't they be more worried about crack and meth?

Posted by: Anonymous on May 21, 2008 at 04:28 PM
Hmmm, quite a profitable crop.

Posted by: Smot Poker on May 21, 2008 at 04:03 PM
Police always overestimate the value of pot plants so they can grab headlines, there is no way 22 plants are worth 40 thousand dollars unless they were all very high quality mature females & loaded with buds. people act like pot is so bad yet alcohol be blamed for 100,000 deaths each year! but i guess thats ok because its legal???

Posted by: Overestimated on May 21, 2008 at 03:48 PM
Cops always waaay overestimate the "street value" of what they seize. Imagine that cars were illegal, and there was a huge underground business in car parts. If the cops seized 5 tons of raw steel, they'd give a street value, of, say, $200 million. Why? Because, made into a fleet of Mercedes' that's what the steel is worth. That's pretty much how it works with pot

Posted by: Eddie on May 21, 2008 at 12:18 PM
What a waste of police resources. How many violent crimes cases could the police be working on instead of chasing a few plants. This stuff will eventually be legalized anyway, because the U. S. is running out of money.Prisons are for people that are so bad that they can't be in public. If there is no victim, then there is no crime.Alcohol prohibition didn't work and neither will this,we all know it.The only time someone should be prosecuted for pot is when they harm someone driving or if they give or sell it to kids. Some of the most educated and productive people I know smoke to relax.

Posted by: Mary Jane on May 21, 2008 at 11:35 AM
I wish pot was worth what these ignorant cops like to say. 22 plants is closer to ten thousand dollars, and even that would be a lot.

Posted by: Kelly Mullens on May 21, 2008 at 09:50 AM
What a bunch of BS! Legalize Marijuana!
