HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Both Charleston and Huntington’s Home Rule applications have been approved by a state panel.

Home Rule is a system that lifts state restrictions and allows cities to make their own rules about such things as taxes and ordinances. Both Charleston and Huntington leaders think home rule will let them make positive changes in the cities.

Wheeling and Bridgeport also applied for home rule. No word yet on whether their applications were approved.

why don't we just put a toll collector on all the bridges coming to Huntington from Ohio. Charge $5 to come over here. If they don't want to come to Huntington, fine, they can eat at their own Max and Erma's or Outback. Oh thats right, they don't have one. It seems to me like a lot of people use the city that we as residents pay for and they don't pay anything for it.

I live in Ohio and have worked in Huntington for 11 years. The user fee didnt bother me too much, but I believe a 1% TAX IS RIDICULOUS!. I already pay a city tax of that amount where I reside, and that is somewhat reasonable. If I have to pay 1% of my earnings to this town I should be given the right to help vote out this sorry local government. I will never spend another dollar in this town that I do not have to.

HUntington can steal money out of my paycheck but I will never spend another dime in this town. I wish all employers would take their companys out of city limits so the employees don't have to be ripped off by the pathetic city of Huntington.

this is just another example of taxation without representation. Has anyone in city government in Huntington even bothered to ask the citizens if they want to be taxed more than they already are. this is rediculous. So now I will be paying 1% or more of my income for the right to live here. That could be $1000 for someone who makes $100,000 a year, does that seem fair when someone making $10,000 a year uses the city and their services the same amount. I like the city user fee much more, cause at least then we all pay the same amount for the same service. I agree with t, death to the middle class, I live fairly comfortable but still can't afford to move out of the city just to avoid this rediculous attempt to revive our city, when I wasn't the one who killed it. Thanks a lot to all who have served on city government over the years who have destroyed this town.

This is gonna coast us plenty. I'm glad that us as citizens got to vote for our approvial on this. If your gonna do this to us, at least by me dinner first.

Yet another chance for the City of Huntington to misappropriate funds. No $$ for roads or police, yet they collect $2/wk from every worker. Let's start looking for $200 hammers and $800 toilet seats.

I can't wait to pay more to work in this wonderful town. The smooth-as-glass streets, top notch police force, and endless opportunities for the youth are well worth it!(Did you catch the sarcasm?Because I laid it on pretty heavy there)

IF HUNTINGTON PASSES A 1% TAX FOR PEOPLE DRIVING INTO HUNTINGTON TO WORK, THEN I WOULD SUPPORT A BOYCOTT OF PULLMAN SQUARE AND ALL RESTAURANTS IN THIS TOWN.

Why work....just be a bum in Huntington, it pays more!

Posted by: Thanks for thinking about the working class people of Huntington on May 22, 2008 at 06:03 AM
Come and live in Huntington...with all of us middle class people who by the end of a 40 hour week....arent taking home nothing for our families!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Give me a break....we are working enough right now for our gas to get to work...I will get a petition to go around and ban people for spending their hard earn money on business in Huntington....You really got a lot of nerve for passing this tax...

If the user fee is raised to 1 percent of income earned in Huntington, my days of spending any money in this town for anything is over!

I will feel alot better about this if Felinton DOES NOT get elected again. Want change (and more of a police presence)? elect someone else. And at this point, anyone else.

Get ready for more taxes. Death to the middle class.

Posted by: Bev on May 21, 2008 at 08:39 PM
Positive meaning that they will absolutely add new taxes or raise existing taxes. Now our "elected" officials can fleece us even more.

How much more will that cost us?
