GRETHEL, Ky. (WSAZ) - There is a new chief at Mud Creek Fire Department and she is the first woman to hold the position in Floyd County history.

22-year-old, Stephanie McKinney, who is a senior biology and psychology major at the University of Pikeville, has been a member of the fire department for three years.

With the most training hours last year in the department, McKinney says her work ethic caught others attention, leading to her being named chief.

"It is hard...it is like it's a man's job, a man's world, and I really have to show myself and overcome obstacles. It is fun and there's so much support in this department, they are all rooting for me and it is amazing," says McKinney.

McKinney says she is also thankful for the outpouring of support from all the other departments in Floyd County.
