The Future of Farming

The future of farming in Washington County could see a boost with the help of an up and coming website.

A group of farmers are forming a cooperative to help market locally grown produce.

It's called yourfarms.com.

Organizers say it's the first one of its kind at a county level.

Right now, the OSU Extension Agency is looking for funding for the project, but Eric Barrett says he hopes to have the web site up by the end of the summer.

"Instead of selling things wholesale, instead of taking their things to a market, they'll be able to sell direct from their farm or to a farmers market. This will hopefully increase their profit, add the next generation to the farm, and definitely help the local economy."

The cooperative is open to farmers in Washington County.

Barrett says this initiative goes farther than the farm, as he hopes it will help tourism in general in the Mid Ohio Valley.
