An armed robbery overnight in Parkersburg was solved just about as quickly as it happened.

Police say a convenience store clerk recognized the man who held up the store early Thursday morning.

The 7-11 convenience store at 300 Emerson Avenue was the target of an attempted armed robbery around 1a.m.

Sgt. Blaine Ritchie says the female clerk thought the suspect, Joseph Stuckey looked familiar. He told her he had a weapon and demanded cash, but was denied.

The 20-year-old Parkersburg man, who lives three blocks from the store, fled the scene.

Within a few hours he was arrested at an apartment complex thanks to the clerks help. Stuckey is charged with attempted armed robbery. He's being held in the North Central Regional Jail.

Ritchie says no weapon was found and it is still unclear if Stuckey was carrying a weapon at the time of the crime.
