In the past year a local baseball great lost his mother to brain cancer. Now he's taking her loss to help others, but he needs more people to join his team.
Steve Swisher spoke Thursday night at J.P. Henry's Bar and Restaurant on behalf of the American Cancer Society's arm in advocacy, better known as the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network.
The group takes on political issues surrounding the disease through voter education and issue campaigns.
"I know people know me from a distance, but I got involved with this because I want to help people and I want to find people who want to help other people. As I said, I'm proud to be from Parkersburg and I always will. This time I need some help with what we're doing here," says Swisher.
