HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- As home prices plummet across the country, West Virginia’s housing market is growing.
Here's the breakdown of some new numbers.
Home prices across the state grew nearly 2.5 percent during the first three months of the year, compared to the same period last year.
Also, the average sale price of a home is up about $3,000 over last year to $120,320.
However, the West Virginia Association of Realtors said two markets have cooled in the past year: homes in the eastern panhandle and the second-homes market in Greenbrier and Pocahontas Counties.

How on Earth can home prices be going up as much as they are in a place with the highest unemployment, the highest poverty rate, the lowest education level and least amount of opportunity? It's true. Home and land prices in WV have skyrocketed in the last few years. What amazes me most is how home and land prices seem to have gone up so much in the coalfields, where outside of mining, there is the least amount of opportunity of all. I think people have watched too many episodes of "Flip this House". They think that because a house similar to theirs goes for $400,000 in a major metropolitan area, they should get the same in Logan or Mingo County. Some have simply lost their minds. And before the hate mail comes in, I'm from Logan County, so I have a right.
