BELLE, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Emergency officials in Kanawha County say a problem with a tanker car carrying a flammable liquid prompted the activation of the county's emergency operations center.

Grant Gunnoe, Emergency Services Director for the City of Charleston, tells WSAZ that the inner tank of a tanker car had a leak in it, and that pressure built up inside the tank.

DuPont then notified Metro 911 of the situation Tuesday evening, which then activated the EOC. Gunnoe says this was a precautionary measure in the event something went wrong.

Gunnoe says tanker cars have two tanks in them, so none of the chemical actually leaked outside of the tanker. Crews from the DuPont Plant Fire Department and the Belle Fire Department were on hand while the chemical was transferred to a new tank.

Gunnoe didn't immediately recall the name of the chemical when we contacted him at home Wednesday morning.

The transfer happened with no problems, according to Gunnoe. He said at no point was it necessary for people in the area to shelter in place or evacuate.

The EOC was activated until about 6am Wednesday morning, said Gunnoe.
