CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Gov. Joe Manchin says Tri-State Racetrack & Gaming Center owes the public an explanation of why it's taking so long to launch the table games they fought so hard for.

Voters in Kanawha County approved the games last fall after a divisive campaign, but Tri-State has yet to launch poker, craps and blackjack.

Nor has the company broken ground on a promised $250 million expansion or begun creating the promised 1,000 jobs.

Manchin says the track owners ought to be upfront and truthful about their time lines.

Dan Adkins, vice president of Michigan-based Hartman & Tyner, Tri-State's parent, has not responded to requests for comment this week.

Manchin says Tri-State's schedule is so intertwined with public policy, the people have the right to know what's going on.

I'm glad Tri-State is smoke free, and OBAMA will be our next president.

I agree with John...Why did all of these elected officials from WV vote for Obama when the people who voted for them overwhelmingly voted for Clinton??? This made me wonder why after all the good things some of them have done, why am I voting for them if they do not even consider the voters decisions?

The dog track is going to sink due to the smoking ban.75% of the people that gamble smoke. We will take our money to the Indiana river boats. I was a patron there for over 20 years.

I happen to know for a FACT that Agsten Construction out of Charleston as well as South Charleston Electric Co are doing all of the construction/reno work that's currently happening at Tri-State. So yes, local laborers ARE doing the work.

HOW ABOUT THEY EXPLAIN THAT AFTER YOU EXPLAIN YOUR ROLE IN THE MASTER SCANDEL.....YOU GO FIRST

Now Joe, don't try to suck up to us now. YOU wanted the table game bill to pass. The opposition told everyone that Tri-State would take their sweet time in starting up table games. We all knew that it would be YEARS, if at all, when we would see this so-called "convention center" built. They are gonna eventually start up the table games, but then they'll keep the money, send it out of state, and if they even build this convention center, it won't be for at least 5-10 years. I'm betting they NEVER build it. Congratulations Kan Co Voters!!!! You fell for the bait & switch...again.

Translation from Manchin: My administration has become so dependent on lottery funds that I need to know when we can expect more money to buy more plasma televisions for the Governor's mansion.
