CHARLESTON, W.Va., (WSAZ) -- A young mother has been mother missing without a trace for two years, so Melanie Metheny's young children helped host an event Saturday to prevent other families from feeling the same kind of pain.

Donna Harper is the grandmother of two of Melanie's young children.

"I tell the children that their mother is missing," Harper said. "And their mother may never come home. I think, 'was Melanie tortured?' I think lots of things. You really don't know until this happens to you."

Part of the Charleston Moose Lodge was turned into a safe haven for the event.

Kids had the opportunity to get fingerprinted, and other people had the chance to learn some self-defense moves.

Melanie Metheny was last seen dropping her children off at a daycare in Belle, W.Va.

Her van was found a few days later, but no trace of Metheny has ever been found.

Ari why even say anything? You will have to answer for that someday.. I hope you know that. MY thoughts and prayers are with the family

Prayers are with you and for you Melanie. Prayers also for your children and those who love you. May God bring you home safe and sound. May someone who knows anything about the case come forward and confess whatever they know.

This is sad. It sickens me to think someone would do something to harm the mother of three young children. They were so selfish they didn't even think of the impact on these children's lives. They may never see their mother again. This angers me for nobody has the god given right to harm anybody else especially a mother. The idiots involved should just fess up so these young chilren can have closure.

I agree someone knows something and if you do and have not come forward you are just as guilty. Have pitty on these children and the grandmother and come foward if you do have any information. Even if it is the worst at least they will be able to rest in peace if they know what has happend to Melanie. God bless this family....

Has anyone considered the sickos who tourted that one young lady. I would have them questioned for every missing person around that area. That was a horrile crime, and there was just too many of them that thought this type of behavior was O.K. I bet that incident was not the first, and law enforement has not caught on. I am praying for Metheny's family.

This is for all those so-called friends of Melanie's who know the people responsible. Think of those little kids who don't have a mother but you won't talk because you don't want to be a "snitch". Be real. If you do have any information, the people who did this will eventually get nervous and come after you so you better start talking. It's really easy to be anonymous these days when you leave information. The people you're protecting aren't worth it and would roll on you in a second.

You are in my prayers. May GOD Bless you!

I so agree with you "mr", Someone out there has got to know something, anything that anyone can give the police may just lead this family to closure. God bless this family and may they're suffering end soon (on good terms I pray).
