HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Eastern Kentucky native and meteorologist Chris Bailey joined the WSAZ First Warning Weather team this week.
Bailey, who grew up in Salyersville, comes to WSAZ from WKYT in Lexington.
He'll be monitoring severe weather in the evenings with chief meteorologist Tony Cavalier, presenting his forecast during NewsChannel 3 First at Five, 5:30 Edition and myZ Ten O'Clock News. His first forecast is scheduled for Thursday's First at Five.
Bailey brings 10 years of experience covering severe weather. He's tracked tornado outbreaks and costly ice storms.
"The first job is to keep people safe and keep them up to date about the changing weather conditions in the tri-state and Kanawha Valley," said Bailey.
He's built up quite a following on the Internet. Bailey's blog at WKYT.com had several million page views last year alone. This week, he'll start blogging on WSAZ.com.
"I will update it sometimes multiple times during the day. It's almost a running weather discussion about what's going to happen on a particular day or evening," said Bailey. "Sometimes, I'll even do live blogging during severe weather events and it will be interactive so people can leave their comments, as well."

I have kept my cable instead of going to "dish" just because I like to be able to watch both KYT and SAZ and a big reason was Chris Bailey. I loved the humor and personality that he added to the early show on KYT. I know he will be a huge asset to the weather team on SAZ. I miss seeing him with Bill and Barb. He is great!!

Welcome Chris and good luck with your new job. As Steve mentioned, there is some great football in Scioto county, but save yourself some driving time and just stop in Wheelersburg and watch some better football.
