CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Charleston will soon be the home of the World's Strongest Man Competition.

City leaders announced Thursday Charleston will host the competition September 6-14.

Organizers were in Charleston last month looking at possible sites for the competition. They visited several areas including Magic Island, Kanawha Boulevard, and Coonskin Park.

Thursday the city announced the qualifying round will start September 6th at Magic Island. This part of the competition will also take place at the State Capitol, University of Charleston, and on the Kanawha Boulevard.

The finals will take place at Haddad Riverfront Park, Coonskin Park, Kanawha Boulevard, Appalachian Power Park, and at Yeager Airport. The finals will run from September 12-14.

The schedule is only tentative. We're told it could change.

Mayor Danny Jones says this will be a huge undertaking for the city, but a great family event that will be well worth it.

Organizers are trying to work with the Army National Guard to see if the contestants can pull a C-130 during the competition.

Charleston native Phil Pfister clinched the title of World's Strongest Man back in 2006. He also attended Thursday's press conference. He tells WSAZ.com that he's already training for the competition.

Has anybody heard who won? If I were to guess, I would say the guy from Poland. Wow, what a mountain of muscle.

Way to go Phil! This is a great event for West Virginia. I think this is what we need for tourism. Phil should run for Governor. We have so enjoyed the events and its good clean family fun. Now, we just want Phil to win!

YOu know the Military has gone over to fight in a lot of wars to make this country a free country. Tell me what is so free about it? The gov. needs to stop taking our rights away. If you want to smoke, smoke. And now they are taking it out of bars. If you drink and don't like the smell of smoke go to a different bar. Stay off our backs, if we want to smoke we are going to no matter what you think or like. So if you don't like SMOKE, STAY AWAY FROM US WHO DO AND LEAVE US ALONE. SO MUCH FOR A FREE COUNTRY WAY TO.

This could be a great positive thing for the state until the media zooms in on the spectators and they are decked out with their jaw of chew and no teeth smile. They always find that person to interview. Or the person who says "no mam, i ain't never been to sumpon liked this here 'fore, reckon im pretty well as happy as a farfly..." You all get the point. So I guess I am asking for the media to interview someone with a brain and teeth. This group does outnumber the first so please find them.

That's great news for the city of Charleston as well as the state. The competition should provide some much needed positive exposure to the capital city and our great state.
