CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Supporters of Ralph Nader believe they've gathered enough signatures to get the independent presidential candidate on West Virginia's ballot for the general election.

The Charleston Gazette reports that petitions containing 7,500 signatures of state voters were submitted to the Secretary of State's Office on Friday. More than 17,000 signatures were turned in previously and county clerks across the state already have validated more than 12,000.

To get on the November ballot, Nader needs 15,118 valid signatures of registered West Virginia voters.

Albert Marino, state Nader campaign coordinator, told the newspaper that Nader has agreed to campaign in West Virginia. No dates have been set.

Aug. 1 is the deadline to submit petitions.

the reason he does this is to try getting enough votes to throw the election towards the republican side,,,,,,grrrrrrrr

I think that it's a little too late now. But I also think that it is a poor sight what this GREAT country ,that I dearly love and many have died for, has to choose from when it comes to it's next leader!!!!

Take a look at the choices we have to choose from now. I believe anyone considering running should do so, I don't care who they are. It could not be worse than the choices we now have to face and live with now! Obama is a big gamble to choose (in many ways) and makes me feel a bit uneasy about what the future holds for us. And McCain is questionable, if things will in fact change or not or just stay as they are now. At this point I would consider ANYONE who wanted to run for president!

I have done a lot of research on Mr. Nader and i dont think he is what he claims to be. OK LET ME REFRAISE .I DONT THINK HIS FRIENDS ARE ACTUALLY WHAT THEY CLAIM TO BE . / I think the Republican party plays him like a fiddle. The Republican party goes thru the back way to have some of Naders High dollar friends to stroke his ego. Thus they float some money his way for his campaign tell him at a boy Nate and he skims a few votes from the Democratic candidate. Wala Republicans narrow the margin.

I can't understand why Nader does this crazy dance every election year .? He's wasting his time and money and your time and money if you vote for him. The only thing he has done that really did to get "real" fame was to get Chevy to stop producing the Corvair.Which was a good little car. I can't do anything but ask WHY .?

WV Hillbilly, if you cast a vote for Nader, you might as well not vote!

What a waste of government resources. Every presidential election year this state has to take our money and time to do the same thing for this radical. Enough is enough!

Posted by: Amy on Jul 25, 2008 at 02:40 PM
What is the point of this? He is not going to get enough votes to become president, therefore if you use your vote for him, you are basically throwing it away. You need to put your vote where it will count, either for McCain or Obama.
