HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- With gas hovering around $4 a gallon, a lot of people aren't looking for a car with better gas mileage – they're looking to motorcycles and scooters.
Among them is Jeremy Ramsier, who says he spends about $12 monthly on gasoline for his scooter.
"I could do without the attention, but the fact people are concerned is what I enjoy," he said.
The popularity of motorcycles and scooters is becoming more apparent, with several showing up in local parking garages.
Salespeople say people of all ages are buying scooters and motorcycles, and many scooters are sold out at Harmon Motors in Ironton, Ohio. Scooters get as much as 100 miles per gallon, but are not fast enough to drive on main highways.
Janet Hall loves her Yellow Bird motorcycle, which she bought before gas hit $3 per gallon.
"It's just really cheap on gas," she said "I get 55 miles per gallon. I ride 150 (miles) a week, and it only costs me $11 to fill up the tank."

Bought a 400 Suzuki Burgman scooter a year ago. Glad I did with the way prices are on gas. They are scarce now. I drive 150 miles/wk. and get between 55-60 mpg. Everybody should own one.
I LOVE to ride my motorcycle. I wanted one for years, but my now ex husband wouldn't let me get one. I just got mine this Spring. I ride mine also to save money on gas, $12 per week for my motorcycle, compared to $45 per week in my car. I also took a motorcycle safety class offered through the Ohio Bureau of MOtor Vehicles, it was a very wise decision, and I would recommend it to anyone. I also cannot stress the importance of ALWAYS wearing a helmet. It may "look cool" to not wear one, but you will also not look cool if you get into an accident and injure your face, or worse have a head injury.
This is a good news for everyone. Scooters create less accidents, are better for the environment, and get better gas mileage. Plus, they are cheaper to buy and repair costs are less. Best, Kyle Park http://www.motorized-scooters.net
