MASON COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- While their son's murder seems senseless, Ray and Brenda Roush are relieved that a man was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting.
The couple said their son, 29-year-old Christopher Roush, seemed to have everything going for him. He had a college degree, a job and dreams of owning a restaurant – until he was gunned down about 10:30 p.m. June 7 in his Mason County home.
Christopher was murdered execution style – forced to the floor, hit in the face and shot in the back of the head.
Police arrested Michael Haynie, 48, and charged him with Christopher's murder. Christopher's parents admitted he had problems, including drug issues, but said he was sorting through them.
"He was trying and tested clean, and I think that's why they killed him," Ray Roush said.
Police said Haynie confessed to the murder, claiming robbery, drugs and jealousy as motives. Officers say it's a case of where one drug dealer robs another to establish turf and power – something Christopher's parents are still struggling to understand.
"It doesn't make sense," Ray Roush said.
Haynie faces state charges for first-degree murder, but the district attorney is pursuing federal charges against him in the case.

I wanted so much to read something tonight maybe about something someone remembered about Chris and Christmas. It has been a horrible week. I can't force myself to decorate the tree. I have the stockings hung for everyone and very little else. I am haunted by the memories of Chris and how much he loved Christmas. When he was little he used to pick everything up and shake it and guess every time what was in the package. I know I have memories but it's not enough. I want to hug him and tell him I love him. I want to tell him he needs to find a good woman and give me more grandkids because mine aren't little anymore. I just want to hold him and have him hold me and tell me everything will be ok. The U.S. Attorney called and told me Michael Haning is going to change his plea again. I don't understand. I want him gone. I want this whole thing over and done. I'm afraid that when I go into the court I'm going to fall apart and not be able to pick up the pieces. Please continue to pray for us.

Update for those who are still interestd in seeing what's going on with Chris' case. The new trial date is January 12. There is some things going on that I'm not at liberty to share right now. I haven't talked to Ray in a while but know he is not going to like what's going to go down with the shooter. He promised some things that may secure Lacy's jail sentence to be a life one, I hope. I took some time off and have been trying to refuel myself mentally and physically. Sleep seems so unatainable for me and watching TV is a challenge because there is so much violence that never phased me before. I knew it was just a movie. Now everything makes me think of Chris and his murder and what he must have gone through in those last precious moments of his life. I totally lose it because I want my baby back! I want to hear his voice and feel his hugs and just touch him. I'd give anything I had to go back to that night and change the world! Please continue to pray for me and my family and others.
