PIKEVILLE, Ky (WSAZ) -- A Kentucky state police officer went before a judge Tuesday to answer to charges of alcohol intoxication, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest.

Kentucky State Police Sergeant Timothy Moore pleaded not guilty Tuesday.

He was arrested by Pikeville Police outside the Expo Center last month.

Moore was suspended with pay.

An arrest citation charges Moore was drunk and yelled curse words and other obscenities at a Pikeville officer after a concert at the Expo.

Records say he refused to talk to police after his car was stopped.

Tuesday in court, Moore’s attorney said he is looking forward to resolving the situation.

“We will cooperate fully as we have in the past,” Terry Jacobs, Moore’s attorney, said. “Sergeant Moore as I’ve stated has respected the system and respects the process. He's been very cooperative and continues to do so. We feel that once all the facts come to light, the situation will be resolved rather quickly.”

Terry Jacobs says Sgt. Moore is ready to go back to his job with the Kentucky State Police.

Assistant county attorney Roger Varney said Sgt. Moore will not receive any special treatment because he is a state trooper.

Really people, I think this man should loose his job but does anyone know anybody who ever did an extended time for public intoxication. No one goes to jail for public intoxication with the exception of the night they are arrested. They spend anywhere from 4 to 12 hours there depending on which county you are in and if someone can pick you up. "Send him to Jail" has been a common theme in the comments. That will not happen. Fine him and then send him looking for new employment.

SEND HIM TO JAIL LIKE ALL THE REST. HE IS NO BETTER THAN ANYONE ELSE!!

Beth Ann, you can get a dui without driving. If you are parked in a car and the cops know the only way you got there was by driving (in the driver's seat, passed out, etc.). Happens all the time.

You can not get a DUI if your not driving. I say give him his fine and whatever else and let it go.

He was charged with resisting arrest that is the same as obstructing. Anymore questions?

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 6, 2008 at 04:44 PM
Chuck, they do not have a obstructing charge in kentucky.

Everyone is asking about DUI charges. He was not driving he was a passenger. Don't seem of you look silly.

Anyone should read the whole story before they comment. He was not driving drunk. He was just a concert, had a few adult beverages, and was in a "happy" mood. Apparently the Pikeville locals wanted to make a name for themselves. Obviously this will cause tension between KSP and Pikeville locals. I say again, let him go Judge.

bet he gets off free, unlike me, I was stopped in a road block in Ashland, had just came from the Road House, had water with lemon to drink,I passed the breatherlizer test with 0.0 kentucky state police got mad because i passed the test yelled for another officer, gave me another test I passed it so then they arrested me because my eyes were red and glassy sure they were i just had a place on my face removed above my eye(skin cancer) I went to jail from 11:00 that night till noon the next day, wonder if they met there quota at my expense. I also took a blood test, I am 54 years old and had never had a record or been in jail.

A girl I was dating's best friend was a WV cop. We went to a club one night, he consumed many alcoholic beverages and was drunk. As we pulled out of the parking lot we got pulled over by the cops. When the cop recognized the driver as a fellow cop he laughed and talked to him for awhile before letting him go on his merry, drunk way. I learned two lessons that night: (1) don't ride with a drunk driver; and (2) WV cops are above the law...even when off-duty and drunk.

to me this case is a crime in itself. where is the dui charge, or the obstructing charge. talking about special treatment. thats whats wrong with this country now DOUBLE STANDARD

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 6, 2008 at 12:26 PM
my family had a very bad experience with the Pikeville ky state police, think they might need to look into more than one of them.

Posted by: ROD CORNELL on Aug 6, 2008 at 10:23 AM
Yes he will get special treatment, you know he above the law .Shake his hand and let him go,that is what will happen. But if it was me i would still be in jail (RIGHT). And have to pay a big fine too. (RIGHT)!!!!What happen to the OVI or DWI for driving, sence he is a state trooper i guess they will not do nothing for that,(RIGHT).by by rod.

In my younger days I was a volunteer for EMS. This is quite common for drunks; cursing and swinging at people. Working with injured drunk drivers involved trying not to get hit and being called every name in the book. The trooper needs to be treated as any one of them. Which means he shouldn't lose his job. He pays the fine or whatever his punishment is and when done, goes back to work. I'm all for more strict alcohol laws. But the laws need applied equally. If John Q. Public keeps his job after an alcohol incident, why shouldn't the trooper?

I am at a lost on this story . The story states "Records say he refused to talk to police after his car was stopped" That alone should have been a DUI if he was intoxicated. Also, "An arrest citation charges Moore was drunk and yelled curse words and other obscenities at a Pikeville officer after a concert at the Expo. " If he refused to talk to them then how did he yell at them ?? Was he driving and got pulled over while intoxicated ?
