LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - The families of two women who are presumed dead at the hands of a pair of escaped convicts have settled a lawsuit against a western Kentucky jail.

The parents of Samantha Burns and husband of Alice Donovan reached an agreement with Hopkins County, the county jail and its employees over the escape of inmates Brandon Basham and Chadrick Fulks on Nov. 4, 2002.

Fulks and Basham were sentenced to death for murdering the 44-year-old Donovan of Galivants Ferry, S.C., in December 2002.

They were also given life sentences in the death of Burns, a 19-year-old Marshall University student from West Hamlin, W.Va., whose body has not been found.

The families sued the jail in 2005, claiming negligence by the county. The terms of the settlement were not immediately available.
