DENVER, Co. (WSAZ) -- 20 of the 28 West Virginia delegates at the Democratic National Convention are pledged to Senator Hillary Clinton.

Clinton will not get the nomination tonight when the official vote takes place for the Democratic Party. It will go to Barack Obama.

But, Hoppy Kercheval with WV Metronews reports that the delegation from West Virginia is still a little leary about Obama.

WSAZ spoke with Kercheval from the DNC Wednesday afternoon. He reports that Tom Vogel, the current executive secretary of the Democratic Party in West Virginia, will take over Obama's West Virginia efforts as soon as he returns from the DNC this weekend.

Kercheval predicts West Virginians will see visits from Joe Biden, Obama's choice for Vice President, during this campaign season.

Watch our raw interview with Kercheval inside the DNC. He also touches on what takes place during those speeches and the absence of United States Senator Robert Byrd.

TOM- If you're a democrat and believe in all the ISSUES that Hillary supported, voting for McCain will just go against everything that she stood for. And why do I keep seeing comments from you and other people saying "It's not because Obama is black, I just question his loyalty to this country." What exactly has he done to make you question his loyalty? If you say anything about a flag pin I'll rip my hair out. This is just the WV citizens' way of saying they don't want to vote for a black man, but they also don't like being called racists. I've yet to see any real examples of why people question his loyalty.

Give it up already she lost its time to move on,heck i couldn;t even vote for her because here in Ohio you have to declare party in primaries and we had local issues that were eating us up that were repblican ticket issues so their were alot of hillary and obama people who couldn't express their votes for fear of local corruption that is tearing our community apart is that fair i dont think so but that is the way it goes so everyone just needs to move on and vote for the best possible canidate in the fall who that is i dont know but they cant be any worse

Posted by: TOm on Sep 2, 2008 at 12:08 AM
I cannot believe the Delegates went to OBama! Hillary won the Nations popular vote and so did Al Gore but you Delegates see fit to give her struggle to another canidate! That is just wrong! Yes McCain's running mate is a woman and yes America voted and a woman won the nomination but the WV Delegates gave it away! So my vote goes to McCain.. WV is not a state of whiners! We stand on belief and principles so who cares what other states say about WV I have a few choice words about them too. Bush won the election by the Delegates and has gone down in History as one of the worst President's of History, While Al Gore won a Noble Peace Prize! Wonder what great accomplishment Hilary will make and LOOK Out Obama fans! Our Delegates oviously do not know what our country was founded on and why people died! Government BY he PEOPLE, Of the People and FOR the people!! Obama is not a Black man his mother is white! His loyality to our country is my chief concern! God Bless America!

Okay the second part of the story Rush made this call also.Man this is so unfair i shouldn't even gloat but i will and aint Sarah so pretty by the time this election is over Hillsry will have left everyones mind and everybody will be republican we truly want all the sisters in pant suit to keep up your no Obama stances we know in the end you will grow to love Sarah more than Hillary and as soon as we beat Obama in Nov and McCain finishes his 8 yrs She will be ready for your backing for 8 more yrs by that time the dems will be all but an afterthought Obama was right about one thing the world is changing and once the dem party dissolves it will be the most beautiful place. Isee where none of you liked the convention so thank god you wont have to endure it agaain. Long live WVa and the Grand Ole Party

Posted by: james on Aug 28, 2008 at 11:56 PM
well the way I see it if you vote for Macain then I guess we really are a nation of whinners, and all of the past 8 years is just in our heads. If your a dem vote dem or if your a rep vote dem do the right thing and change america.

The surge had NOTHING to do with Afghanistan, which is where Senator Obama called for more troops to serve. So, you're wrong on that point, as well as your others.

Posted by: Anon is wrong on Aug 28, 2008 at 03:57 PM
He called for a timeline for a withdrawal. You're wrong. Secondly, he suggested more troops in Afghanistan. Finally, Harry Reid says Obama helped him draft the ethics reform. You're 0 for 3.

Posted by: LIVE THE 10 COMMANDMENTS on Aug 28, 2008 at 03:27 PM
Much of the time, "Christians" are passing along the lies in emails about Senator Obama. I like to respond to them that they are violating one of the Commandments that they have in their front yards, but obviously not in their own lives.

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 28, 2008 at 03:01 PM
Obama for most of his campaign called for immediate withdrawn of troops in Iraq and said no to the surge. The increase of violence in afgan. is of late and reason for more troops. Ethic reform bill credit goes to Harry Reid. Sorry you're 0 for 3.

Obamania is right. I get all these ignorant e-mails sent to me too, but I am smart enough to know they're not true. To be honest, most of the people sending those ugly e-mails know they're not true either! It is so sad to see all this RACISM hidden behind. I am white--have a white spouse--kids are white as cotton, but I do NOT have a problem with the idea of Senator Obama being our next president. Shame on ALL OF YOU who are forwarding those ugly e-mails about Obama. Have fun in the unemployment line when your ugly deeds put McCain in the white house for the next four years. Don't want to hear any of you complaining that "they took our jobs!"

Posted by: What he has accomplished on Aug 28, 2008 at 12:19 PM
1. He was right on Iraq--now Buscho set a timeline. 2. He was right on putting more troops in Afghanistan to hunt down bin Laden. Buscho is doing that. 3. He authored ethics reform for the US Senate. There's a start for you, Bob.

Posted by: Dave on Aug 28, 2008 at 12:15 PM
The delegation is still "leary" about Obama and everyone in this region is scared to death to see him in the White House simply because he's BLACK. No one will admit that though. If you honestly think Obama could make things any worse after the last 8 years of the worst president we've ever had, you've lost all touch with reality. People in WV act like they've never seen a black man before. Wake up rednecks, its not the 18th century anymore. And you morons wonder why the rest of the country makes fun of us...

It is so great to see that the real man of the hour behind the scenes is Rush he borders on the line of smartest man in the world. And i want to thank all the people of WVa,Ohio,Kentuckey for making this happen we now have 16 yrs of the Grand Ole Party in control to look forward to.Thank God you dems are not right and it wasnt hard to bring this to light the age old plan of divide and conquer worked as planned and for that you will thank us in the long run and the funny thing is not only did it work for this election it will work next time too all we have to do is tell the obama faithful to remember how the hillary faithful bailed out on them and they will bail on her and the repub will win again is such a beautiful thing that i can hardly contain myself. So once again thank you all and god bless and good health to you all so you can keep on working and pay your taxes like good Americans should so I dont have to.Long live the privaledged GOP

No one can name anything he has achieved in his political career nor anything he his passionate about. Obama has no substance. Simply just tell us what he has achieved.

Only in America could someone like Barack Obama and Joe Biden become candidates for the highest office in the land. They are the epitomes of the American dream. Tonight in Lawrence County, OH, there are 3 convention watching parties. I invite you to attend. At the South Point event, in the city park, Senator Obama's coordinator for the County will be there and he can answer any questions you have. 9pm at South Point park.

I am so thrilled and excited with our new Democratic Candidate for President. On the other hand it thoroughly disgust me to read and see such ignorance on so many people here in my own state who are so prejudice and hypocritical. How anyone in their right mind could ever vote for a REPUBLICAN, especially JOHN McCAIN, is beyond my comprehension. I hope and pray every day for people to wake up and use SOME GOOD COMMON SENSE IN NOV. God help us if JOHN McCAin becomes 2008 President.

Posted by: Heather on Aug 27, 2008 at 11:37 PM
Obamania... I somewhat agree, but you're not doing anything to help by basically insulting this region. The reason why the democratic party is so torn apart right now is because "Obamaniacs" (took that from your name) and "hilarites" (made that up..might be taken) are name calling each other. Basically it went like this: If you didn't like Obama, you were racist- If you didn't like Hilary, you were for terrorism... what ever happened to people having different beliefs and that being that? The name calling and the insults are getting ridiculous. John McCain knows he's going to lose..the republicans know they're going to lose and that's why they are resorting to frickin' ridiculous "ads" about Obama. Personally, I believe racism has died down A LOT in the past 10 years and will continue to die down in decades to come. Obama just isn't a good candidate and neither is McCain. It's an overqualified puppet vs. an underqualified puppet.

You make yourself sound ignorant and ill-informed. Please don't be PROUD of the fact that you get your political information from e-mails! Do real research. Also, maybe YOU need to look into what this country was founded on - read the writings of the founding fathers (Jefferson, Paine, etc.) and you will see that they did NOT want this country to be a Christian country, and in fact were Deists themselves.

Posted by: frank on Aug 27, 2008 at 07:39 PM
dem's picked the wrong person

Posted by: to MS on Aug 27, 2008 at 07:06 PM
MS - Hillary would not have won the candidacy even if the superdelegates had backed her. She simply did not win enough delegates.

Posted by: Leela on Aug 27, 2008 at 06:18 PM
Obamania is right. Judging from the comments I see posted on here and on the Herald-Dispatch, people around here get most of their news from e-mail forwards and gossipy neighbors, without bothering to see whether it's true or not.

Posted by: Not A Fan!! on Aug 27, 2008 at 04:43 PM
Obamania maybe you should pitch a tent in his back yard!! Da@!@! right we believe emails and editorials. If you are raised in christainity and move to another country and become classified as a resident there do you say I'm not christian when in reality YOU ARE!!!! I think you should do a lot more homework I have done mine!!! I personally don't feel that we have a whole lot to choose from period however I will cast my 1 vote to keep obama OUT of office. This country needs to remember what we were founded on and quit being such a melting pot!!! This man should NOT be in our white house under no uncertain terms!!!! It would be a very dangerous thing for this country. He has absolutely No experience and No Business running for this office or any other!!!!!

Posted by: MS on Aug 27, 2008 at 03:42 PM
I'm not a Dem, but it looks to me that Hillary should be the nominee, and that she was blackballed by the superdelegates. If she would have been male in gender she would be the nominee.

Posted by: Obamania on Aug 27, 2008 at 01:22 PM
WV is still concerned about Senator Obama because the residents believe all the emails written about him. In fact, this entire region is backward.

  • Posted By: KevinI am just fine with the new look of your website, no problems navigating at all. The people who complain are the ones who fear change, to me this explains why Robert Byrd keeps getting voted into office.
  • Posted By: AriI feel SOOO bad for that poor bear that those people are keeping as a "pet" a bear is not a pet, these are the people I dont feel sorry for when they get mauled and there hand bitten off
  • Posted By: MeI like the postings from other outlets, (wowk etc.) This lets me see a varitey of headlines and stories without moving all around
  • Posted By: DebbieYour website looks great! It is very appealing to the eye when it comes up on the screen and user friendly. I not an expert by any means, yet I find your site non-threating for someone like me. I check your site twice daily and though I usually do not like change, I like this one! I'm thankful for WSAZ's coverage of Southern Ohio. You treat Ohio with the same level of importance as West Virginia. Thanks for a job well done, with heart.
  • Posted By: Alycia Marie AdamsI think that your new layout is really top notch! It looks much more professional and streamlined than it used to! Thank you for a job well done!
  • Posted By: Christian not offendedThank you g, I'm glad there is someone else who understands the HOLIDAY meaning to HAPPY HOLIDAYS. If that offends some of you, then maybe you should leave town. This is a FREE country, not a communist one. HAPPY >>>insert holiday here<<< There is that less offending to you?
  • Posted By: CathiThanks for the new website. I think it is truly great. Lots of information, great design. I get on this site many times each day and love the new look and info.
  • Posted By: drsenileIn the spirit of this joyous season, let us remember what it celebrates...the love and compassion for our fellow man. So, those of you who do NOT believe the way I do, get out of town! Sound like anyone you know? If you missed the sarcasm, may I suggest you also leave town.
  • Posted By: mooonieI like the new layout , it is easier to find what you're looking for . I can't understand what others are complaining about . Great job !!
  • Posted By: drsenileWell, I just attempted to submit a comment and it disappeared. And no, it wasn't my computer. My basic problem with this site...too much glitz, not enough substance; slow to load information; and, it appears none of the WSAZ staff ever read much of what's here and it might actually improve.
  • Posted By: drsenileIt is the season for honoring a man born 2000 years ago and to celebrate what he brought to all of us in the spirit of love and compassion for our fellow man. So, all of you who DO NOT BELIEVE as I do, get out of town! If you fall to see the sarcasm, by all means, find another planet.
  • Posted By: drsenileI realize I live in the ultra-exclusive suburb of Milton, but I am curious as to the reason gas prices (for one) are consistently higher than our less fortunate neighbors (like Huntington). As of tonight, there is still a 16 cents per gallon differential between Milton and Huntington (and we are NOT lower). I guess we are helping to pay for improvements to the mayors pet projects.
  • Posted By: PaulYour new web page is greate, Your local and national coverage is so much easier to surf. You will have critics out there, but any change that is new will not be accepted for a while, this is common for the region that we live in. Keep up the good work WSAZ. Please excuse some of my spelling)
  • Posted By: TaxpayerAt least one Senator has put a secret hold on the nomination of Neil Barofsky to be appointed Inspector General to oversee the $700 billion Troubled Assets Relief Program (TARP). It is not clear why the lawmaker is holding up the nomination. Mr. Barofsky appears to be eminently qualified for the Inspector General position, and whether you support the bailout or not, all taxpayers have an interest in making sure every dime is spent appropriately and not subjected to waste, fraud or abuse. Please call the Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121 to connect with your Senator's office and find out whether they are responsible for holding up this nomination of the watchdog for the massive bailout package.
  • Posted By: JenniferTo Volley Mom, yes that's true about life in general but we're talking about a web page, come on. It's not THAT important.
  • Posted By: L.A little feedback on the site redesign; I like the layout, but it's very crowded and cluttered. I browse the site frequently on my iPhone and I have great difficulty doing that with the new layout - I can't scroll using the touchscreen because all of the columns are crowded together and when I try to scroll I end up clicking on something.
  • Posted By: I DO NOT LIKE THE NEW PAGE. THE OLD PAGE WAS SO MUCH BETTER!!!
  • Posted By: MelindaTHE ONLY THING THAT NEEDS FIXED ON YOUR NEW WEB SITE IS THE VIEWING OF THE VIDEOS LIKE YOU HAVE GOING ON AROUND THE WORLD I HAVE A POP UP BLOCKER THAT WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO VIEW IT AND BEFORE IT NEVER STOPPED ME.
  • Posted By: MelindaI LIKE THE NEW WEB PAGE KEEP THIS ONE! ITS EASIER TO READ AND GET TO THINGS.
  • Posted By: Volley MomThe only thing in life consistent is change. We all need change to keep life interesting. Life is 10% of what happens to you and 90% how you deal with it. Learn to deal with things in life a little better. I happen to like the new site.
  • Posted By: Bling BlingLike the new site, but like asked before why are you running the competitions headlines? Also another recommendation - somewhat croweded but hey it is the news so I will live with it
  • Posted By: BuckeyeI like the new site. Just get sick of seeing the shaking "classmate.com" advertisement. But, they pay a bill I'm sure.
  • Posted By: annI HATE THE NEW SIT IT WONT FIT ON MY SCREEN RIGHT ITS MESSED UP CHANGE IT BACK PLEASE HURRRY
  • Posted By: annlove the new site
  • Posted By: JenniferI don't like the new page either, I know change is something you have to get used to but....just my opinion.
  • Posted By: IdiotsUAreThe United States of America was founded under God! The creator of this earth, the father of our Savior Jesus Christ. He is why we even have Christmas. So say Christmas an not holidays! If you want to say holidays then go to another county or even California it might as be its own.
  • Posted By: yuckI don't like change, please go back to the other website.
  • Posted By: BobWSAZ, Why are you linking to WOWK headlines on your website? Even linking to the Daily Mail, Gazette, and H-D isn't smart - because in the online world, they're even more of a competitor to you.
  • Posted By: BobSomeone could be shopping for Hanukkah gifts. Read a book other than just the Bible.
  • Posted By: BibleThumpersIt's actually a pagan festival for the Winter Solstice. The Christians adopted it as Christ's birthday later on and even adopted many of the pagan items, such as putting up a tree and having a great feast.
  • Posted By: git is the stupidest thing I have ever heard, to be offended by the word "Holiday", this all comes from you bible thumpers that all want to tell other people how to think and what to say. You offend me! This is the Holidays! Even 50 years ago before all this ridiculous crap started, cards said Happy Holidays, because it covered Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's, it is the Holiday Season! So Season's Greetings and Happy Holidays Y'all!
  • Posted By: to Lady A:The "holiday" season also encompasses Hanukkah, a major holiday for those of us who follow the Jewish faith. We also give gifts and do "holiday" shopping this season; thankfully WSAZ is less ignorant than you are and recognizes that their viewership reflects more than one faith.
  • Posted By: to Lady AFYI, Hanukah is also coming up and we of the jewish faith also exchange gifts during this HOLIDAY season. I, for one, am thankful that WSAZ considers all of their viewers. Your comment was incredibly ignorant.
  • Posted By: What the heckI agree with Pat, I'm not liking the new page AT ALL.
  • Posted By: Christian not offendedOk there Lady A, just slow down a minute. Huntingtonian made a good point. Have you ever heard of Hanukah? Some people shop for Hanukah. Jesus was Jewish, so don't tell me that being a Jew is a sin, & Christmas is THE ONLY HOLIDAY this time of year. Yes, I too love to hear MERRY CHRISTMAS, but I refuse to become upset when someone says happy holidays. How do you know if when you say MERRY CHRISTMAS to someone, your not saying it to a Jewish person? Do you ever hear them make a big fat stink about it? NO!!!, you don't. So I think you should just be happy that God has given you another day on this Earth. So that you have the time to celebrate, with your family, whatever holiday you choose. I've decided to say HAPPY MERRY KWANZ~MA~KA that way I've covered them all.
  • Posted By: PatMuch like New Coke and the new Marco I think you've made a mistake with the new web pagedesign. I don't use Yahoo because the site is too cluttered and I feel the same about your new page. More is not necessarily better!
  • Posted By: AriIt is CHRISTMAS it is the time we celebrate Christ being born, not Kwanzza or Hanukah. Kwanzza is racist anyways it's a celebration of being black. I have no problem with people saying Happy whatever it is but I am NOT going to watch what i say and not say Marry Christmas becasue it might offend people
  • Posted By: LadyA`The question was, Did you do any Holiday shopping over the weekend? The shopping they were referring was Christmas shopping. What other holiday shopping would we be doing? Thanksgiving was over. It offended me like many others. It is the Christmas season and I want to see the word Christmas used, not holiday or xmas.
  • Posted By: HuntingtonianI agree with Anonymous!! It is the "holiday season" and by definition, it encompasses all of the holidays that are coming, not just Christmas. I also am a christian and see something inherintly wrong with pigeon holing this time of year to simply "Merry Christmas." What I find really offensive is those of you who believe that it is ok to say "Christmas" but would be outraged if "Happy Kwanza" or "Happy Hanukah" appeared anywhere. So, that being said: HAPPY HOLIDAYS and a JOYOUS NEW YEAR to all!!
  • Posted By: Holiday is in referance to ALL holidays this time of year. I have been saying Happy Holidays since I was a kid, growing up during the 80's. Christmas is not the only holiday this time of year. We did just celebrate Thanksgiving, remember. I am a Christian, that is not offended by the phrase HAPPY HOLIDAYS.
  • Posted By: annI agree with ladyA its CHRISTMAS
  • Posted By: LadyAWSAZ- Could you please change the word Holiday to Christmas on your question? The word Holiday offends me.
  • Posted By: madTo the doofus deer hunter who knocked my mailbox over on gritt rd if you cant drive any better than that you shouldnt have a GUN and thanks for letting us know you smashed the mailbox. MERRY CHRISTMAS DOOFUS
