Ironic Twist For Lincoln Co. Voters

An interesting irony this Election day for two former Lincoln county officials.

Former assessor Jerry Weaver along with former circuit clerk Greg Stowers will soon be behind bars. Weaver and Stowers were sentenced in federal court in Charleston today for their roles in a vote-buying conspiracy. Weaver was sentenced to a year in prison and three years supervised release, while Stowers got six months in prison and one year supervised release.

"To those that would sell their vote, I ask how can you so cheaply sell a right that our fore fathers paid for in blood. To those who are aware of vote buying, I say to them, come forward and help us, so we can stop this corrupt practice in Southern West Virginia," said Charles Miller, US Attorney.

Both of the men pleaded guilty in December to taking part in a conspiracy to buy votes in democratic primary and general elections since 1990.
