CABELL COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Cabell County is getting a new multi-million dollar 911 center.

It should be up and running by the end of January.

A scare, the morning of September 2, 2008, cemented the belief, that the move can't happen soon enough. The threat of a chemical spill happened just feet from the current 911 center on 8th Avenue in Huntington. The threat of having to evacuate the 911 center in the face of an emergency is one reason for the move in the first place.

911 Director Mike Davis says, "We had to set in motion plans to evacuate if necessary and we had an off site to set up communications. But coming up to Norway Avenue after the first of the year, it'll eliminate that possibility."

The building should be complete by December 15th. The price tag for the project is $9 million.

I'm not being rude but you have no idea how much work those dispatchers really do. I am not one myself but if you think about it they are the ones that send police and fire to help. They NEED the most up to date..state of the art equipment to be sure the public is taken care of the way we should be. They are hard workers and truely the first responders.
