'Never in Blue Jeans' and Not Too Happy About It

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Employees of two state hospitals are
asking the West Virginia Supreme Court to overturn a Department of
Health and Human Resources ban on wearing blue jeans to work.
The petition challenges a December Kanawha County Circuit Court
ruling that overturned two separate grievance decisions.
Hopemont Hospital nurse Sheila Nestor and housekeeping, dietary
and maintenance employees at Pinecrest Hospital say the ban
infringes on their right to free expression.
The petitioners say jeans are more durable for their work. They
also argue that the policy isn't rational because it prohibits
jeans that are blue, but allows other colors.
DHHR Secretary Martha Yeager Walker implemented the dress code
in 2005 to maintain a professional atmosphere.
Justices will consider Thursday whether to hear the case.

I think nurses and dietary should wear scrubs, only because it helps identify them to patients and their families. Maintance should be allowed to wear blue jeans just because they don't have as much patient contact and their jobs can be dirtier. But even if they can't wear blue jeans, they can still wear other colors so I don't see what the big deal is? Other places have to wear dress clothes period, no exceptions. At least they can wear something more comfortable and casual than others. There is far more problems in the health care profession to fix than wearing blue jeans.
what does it matter. They say that they make us where colors so people will know who is who. And let me tell you that is not true do to i am a 19 year old who got lucky and got a housekeeping job at a hospital while i finish my degree. And people ask me all the time if i am a nurse and start to ask me questions about there loved ones. I get them a nurse. But my point is it doesnt matter what you wear jeans or no jeans. I would rather have scrubs because they are lose but some ppl like jeans. SO what
I thought from another story a couple weeks ago that the union was going to get all nurses a french maid outfit.
