ASHLAND, Ky. (WSAZ) -- One Ashland neighborhood is exercising caution tonight after a series of shootings targeting their pets.
The Miles family was victimized twice in one week.
Now one of their dogs is missing and the other is still recovering from his wounds.
Sarge, a Jack Russell Terrier was shot early in the morning on August 28th with some sort of pellet gun.
That same morning the Miles' other Jack Russell Terrier, Scout went missing.
Both incidents have left their owner, Kathryn Miles perplexed, "I don't really know the reason why someone would want to be so cruel," she said.
A week after Sarge had been shot in his backside he was shot again, this time in the neck.
"They had to hospitalize him, they couldn't take the pellet out because it would kill him," Miles said.
The hospital stay along with x-rays, antibiotics, and other medications racked up a veterinarian bill of nearly $400.00.
The Miles family is not alone, Jennifer Gentry's dog was also shot multiple times, she spent around $80.00 at the vet.
"I just think there is no excuse for animal abuse," Gentry said.
Kathryn Miles did contact the Sheriff’s Office about the shootings and warned neighbors, but worries whoever is doing this might not stop at dogs.
"If they are randomly shooting dogs what's next? They might miss their target and hit a child or something," Miles said.
So for now the Miles family is taking no chances, keeping Sarge in their sights whenever he is outside to avoid becoming a victim for the third time.

if my pet was 7 yards on the neighbors hay ground, not distrubing anyone or anything, why is it ok to shoot my dog dead? so if his cows are in my yard it is ok to shoot them? i was told "no" it would not be ok. my bloodhound was standing and looking in the wind while being shot dead. needless to say there had been no complaints by the neighbor to us or the police department. i am not sure where to begin but i am not done by any means. my dog is was priceless to me and i will with help get my story out to others to maybe get some backing on what to do and how to do it.

I think what the squeaky wheel was trying to do was get you to look out side the big picture that it may not be who you think, it may not be the obvious. It would be pretty dumb of them to post personal information that may lead to their own conviction. Don't you think?

To squeaky wheel You will never hear me take a side of a dog owner if a child or even anyone was bitten by a harmful dog,but that again is not what this thread is about as i even can tell a story concerning as my own cousin was mawed by a dog many years ago requiring 20 odd stitches to his head who was tied up!! It is about someone shooting and abusing animals in a neighborhood for no just reason and if they felt there was a reason then the law should have been called, and or the owner notified of it...NOT THE CASE JUST PURE OUT RIGHT MILISHES AND CRUEL BEHAVIOR WHO DESERVE TO BE PUNISHED If myself as the dogs owners..my dogs harmed anyone then i would be liable and punshible by the law..NOT THE CASE! It angers me that you keep and have from day one tried to steer this intirety away from what the story is about..*ANIMAL CRUILTY* TheBigPicture.. your imformation may be come in handy to all who cant afford the proper vet and reqirements for there animals, and most will appreciate..thanks
