MILTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Twenty years ago, it was a cornfield. Then a man converted it into a small town flea market. The rest, as they say, is history.
Some people say when tragedy hits, stay busy. That is certainly the business philosophy for the Milton Flea Market.
Now, they hope to rebuild before the end of the month. It will not come soon enough for the hundreds of vendors that literally called it home.
Truckload by truckload, the lay of the land is regaining its shape.
Even though smoke is the only visitor today, the market's manager hopes in two and half weeks, vendors will bring back the crowds.
“Some of them have gone to other flea markets, but they said as soon as we get back in business, they want me to call them, so they can come back,” Flea Market Manager Joyce Meadows said.
Two sheds plan to be open later this month, the rest of the vendors will be outdoors. Still, a welcome timetable.
WSAZ talked to the state Fire Marshal this afternoon, and he says the investigation from their end is complete.
The cause of the fire is still undetermined.
