KENOVA, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Five people were arrested at a local motel Sunday night after a major drug bust in Wayne County.

Kenova police seized more than 600 grams of cocaine. Police say the value is estimated at $60,000.

Officers tell us this is the largest cocaine bust in the city's history.

Police found the drugs after they raided several rooms at the Hollywood Hotel just after 7 p.m. Sunday.

Officers charged Eric Morris, Anthony Adkins and Rickey Newman with possession with intent to deliver. Rickey Newman also faces a charge of child neglect.

Sara Newman is charged with child neglect.

Mona Jordan faces a charge of possession of a controlled substance.

I have lived in town my entire life. I have used drugs, sold drugs and am now recovered from drugs. I feel that this is something that needed done and I also feel like it is about time KPD did something besides prey on innocent people. If the KPD would put more time in to getting the hard drugs off the street as they do picking on innocent people the town would be safe again. I am sure that the State Police was behind this and used KPD as a back up. Come on! How many times as First Class Officer Reynolds screwed things up!

Posted by: Resident on Sep 24, 2008 at 08:29 AM
It is about time that Officer Reynolds started worrying with the hard drugs instead of going around picking on innocent people and children. I think that the hard drugs need off the streets. I would also like to know why we have not heard anything about the robbery at the Griffith & Feil Drug Store. That was also a large drug bust and we have not seen any coverage on this. I also think the parents are awful for having their son in the room with them. If your going to do drugs DO NOT DO THEM AROUND YOUR CHILDREN!!!!

I fell like the person that send in there though. Give them the death senting... that will clean it up in a hurry.. we got to do something other than a slap on the hand and turn them loose to do it over and over.. tax paying people don't need to keep up doppies.. they dont change.

OK Kyle That was cute. But I am glad to hear the cops are finally doing something, about the drugs in Kenova.I grew up there. It used to be the safest place to raise your kids. The druggies are taking over every where.I say lock them all up.I will and am not afraid to report drug activity.More people need to do the same, and take our towns back.Good job KPD.

Mona was there and no one said a thing about soliciting! Or was she selling so she could buy? Get real she is just as much as guilty as the other 4 and most definately there! lol

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 23, 2008 at 03:14 PM
I agree w/ susie, they do need to check to see how many of these people do receive a gov. check. For TTOWN, as of this morning Eric was still in jail, Mona has been the only one released.

Posted by: Dave on Sep 23, 2008 at 01:22 PM
"These people are not addicted to drugs they are selling them." Most people sell drugs to continue a drug habit. The war on drugs is a complete failure and someone else will step up and take their place. We need proper treatment for addicts and then we can curb the demand.

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 23, 2008 at 12:01 PM
mona wasnt in or around the hotel. she wasnt even charge with anything. soliciting. Wow haha they made it sound like she was the kingpin. wrong place wrong time.

Prisons full of drug related crimes and it still gets worse. When isgoing to learn you can't build enough prisons.Stop all crime by sending the law breakers to hell.Hell being the island of oxinia in the religion of Fox news Oreilly.

YOU ARE WRONG THESE PEOPLE ARE ON DRUGS. WHY WAS A CHILD THERE? THEY BRING THIS STUFF FROM TOLEDO CALL A FEW OF THE LOCAL JUNKIES TO DISTRIBUTE IT FOR THEM WHILE THEY SIT IN THE MOTEL GETTING HIGH AND COLLECTING MONEY (TAXPAYERS MONEY) ITS BEEN GOIN ON FOR YEARS NOW, AND IF THEY DO ANY TIME FOR IT, IT WILL NOT STOP. RURAL AMERICA IS DOOMED UNLESS WE START TAKING OUR TOWNS BACK.GREAT JOB KPD

Posted by: Kyle on Sep 23, 2008 at 10:52 AM
At least the cops will have some new "powder" for their donuts. Might explain some of the excessive force from cops.

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 23, 2008 at 10:20 AM
What I don't understand is how Mona got out of jail so fast. They must not have seized all of her money huh?

Posted by: Brian on Sep 23, 2008 at 08:31 AM
I say any property willing used in the drug trade should be seized. That includes cars, homes, whatever. if you lend your "friend" your car & he's found with drugs your car should be sold at auction. Don't like it? Get better friends. Don't like the laws? Change them. I don't mean just voting (though you should). Petition, start a grass root program. Don't want to then deal with the problem & SHUT UP!

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 23, 2008 at 08:13 AM
It is not just the sellers, if these addicts could find some way of dealing with their problems instead of doing drugs, sellers wouldn't realize the potential income they could make off the weak. It is a two way street and they are both guilty. I don't see too many people going to adults and trying to pressure them into drugs. The kids that are pressured, usually have bad home lives and don't know how to deal with their problems. That is why communities need to support their kids instead of screwing kids over for the sake of their own. I see it all the time and kids that work hard to achieve get left out for the kids who's parents are friends or boinking the coaches or teachers. When you screw the kids out of a reward, you create addicts.

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 23, 2008 at 12:43 AM
You all dont understand. These people are not addicted to drugs they are selling them. they are the problem. they are the ones selling it to your kids. send them away. There is not help for them.

ERIC MORRIS IS PROBABLY ON THE RUN FOR TOLEDO,,, HIS PARENTS PROB KNEW ALL ABOUT THIS

Posted by: Susie on Sep 22, 2008 at 11:12 PM
So, my question is.....how many of these people draw a government check? See what they do on my dime IS my business. You get busted for drugs you are off the dole, that should be the rule.

Posted by: jim on Sep 22, 2008 at 09:13 PM
Your all crazy. The police can make a million arrests, but it does no good if the people involved don't get the knowledge to live clean. So let me get this right, you get caught, you go to jail for a couple of months, get locked up with a real criminal to learn more ways to get around society's rules, and then they get released just to come out wanting to get high and new and exciting ways of doing it. Instead of jail try manditory drug rehab. Oh I forgot, our country has millions riding on the prison system.

Posted by: Jeremy on Sep 22, 2008 at 06:53 PM
It's still a waste of resources. Drug prohibition is the real problem that everyone wants to ignore.

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 22, 2008 at 06:31 PM
Police do not do near enough, this is not even a dent. People get away with this every day right under their noses. I hope they dont think it's time to take it easy for a while, because they made a major sting.

Posted by: Happy 4 kenova on Sep 22, 2008 at 05:19 PM
This is great, but sometimes i thank let the druggie wipe themselfs out to clean out the city. but thanks again you people for doing a wonderful job....ps run the owner of the motel out of town or in jail for life.

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 22, 2008 at 05:01 PM
Dave, while I do agree w/ what you do in your own home should be your business. People can't keep it in their homes. They are addicts and they will do most anything for the drugs. Stealing, killing, robbing prostitution, driving while impaired and etc. No I have not been brainwashed by the gov. and no I am no some straight arrow either, for I have dabbled w/ marijuana and alcohol. But I have seen what coke, crank, pills and crack can do to people. People lose everything they own including their own life because of an accidental overdoses or suicide. Whose left to pick up the pieces? Loved ones. For the smokers, well I am an ex smoker so I cannot objectively state an opinion on that subject. But I wished that I had never started in the first place. It's been years and I still have cravings..JC, you can do it. It may be a tough fight for ya but you can. Once you do quit, you have to find things to do w/ your hands. Some hold a pencil in their hands like their smoking. Chew gum, veggies

I think if the police were smart they would check this blog and find out who the people are that are upset about a quality drug bust and go bust them because they are probley drug users or dealers to.

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 22, 2008 at 03:24 PM
yeah hats off to the police but really they need to keep doing this till it stops well we all know it wont compltely go away but its just 2 far gone in this tri-state i hope the police go to the regular houses and all those hotels everyones knows whats up come on now let the dealers and addicts pay 4 once if they want to get support let them REALLY deal with REAL rehab not the easy cheat ways they been doing with rehab n methadone clinics

You hit right on the head Dave

Posted by: JC on Sep 22, 2008 at 01:01 PM
Your civil rights end where another person's begins. When you smoke around others, they suffer the affects. I am a smoker and want to quit for my health and the health of my children, not because of the stigma...although I do feel like I am doing something illegal when I smoke outside and I don't want my kids to feel embarrassed. But that attitude is what is needed to maintain health. With regards to the drugs, no, it may not matter what you do in your house, but how many people do not become affected sooner or later with what someone does in their own homes? Some guy in an apartment building was drinking and partying it up and pulled out a gun, accidently shot it and hit the baby's crib in the apartment below, luckily the baby was not in it. He was in his own house. Again though, how many busts do you hear where people are arrested for doing drugs? It is usually making them or selling them that lead to the busts.

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 22, 2008 at 12:48 PM
everyone knows "CK' is a known drug stop in the long list of 'spots' in tri-state for years now.

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 22, 2008 at 12:47 PM
good atleast they got afew dealers n addicts off the street now wish they would get more this tri-state is a land fill off junkies n dealers n places they r not looking places thats right in front of your face in little neighbourhoods its right there the crack cocaine and heroin needs off the streets of out tri-state

Posted by: Luke on Sep 22, 2008 at 12:42 PM
ha doesn't surprise me... not the 1st time a bust has happened there, i live right down the street from it so i've seen my share of cops there.

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 22, 2008 at 11:51 AM
It is always good news...when drugs get off the street along with the scum selling them to our children! Praise the police!!

Good job men lets keep the ball rolling and take our town back.

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 22, 2008 at 10:06 AM
The selling of illegal drugs are bad, we all know that, but what about going after the buyers too. If the demand was low, the sellers would look for another line of work. Good job KPD, but lets look deeper into the problem and maybe invite Huntington PD to your town for training. I truly believe the poor economy leads to desperation and crime, but this is a huge bust!

Posted by: dave on Sep 22, 2008 at 10:00 AM
If you are being a menace to society and your neighbors then you deserve to get busted. However, If someone is in their own house they should be able to do whatever they want as long as the people living around them arent affected. The problem with the whole drug industry (including pharmaceuticals) is theft and crime are often associated with usage, and usually is true. The real problem is in the prohibition of drugs. The government should not be telling you what you can and cant put into your body. It is up to them to tell you if somethings dangerous for you, but you as a person should be making the choice yourself of what to do and what not to do. The general public has been brainwashed completely on the subject of drugs and have tried to create a negative social stigma much like the way cigarette smokers have lately. The smoking bans are just another step towards the prohibition of tobacco. Think its impossible? Think again. Civil rights and privacy have been thrown out the door.

Why does it surprise people that such a big bust happened at the Hollywood Hotel? Do they still charge by the hour for those folks who only want the room for an hour or two?

Posted by: elailne on Sep 22, 2008 at 09:15 AM
Great job guys...Thank God we are doing someting about the drug pushers here in town.. I think Ceredo and Kenova police do their jobs. And Im sure wil continue too..

Posted by: anon on Sep 22, 2008 at 09:10 AM
their names and pictures have been released on the Herald-Dispatch web site. The girl is definately from Kenova, I went to school with her, not sure about the rest. So this can't be blamed on Detroit.

Posted by: B on Sep 22, 2008 at 08:42 AM
The Kenova police are the best around, period. I feel very safe having them here, and I am proud of their work. They don't get a lot of attention, but they are excellent policemen. Well done.

Posted by: Pablo on Sep 22, 2008 at 08:09 AM
Sure, they caught these drug dealers but does anyone really think it will make any difference in the availability of illegal drugs in our area? Others will move in to take thier place. What the United States needs to do is generally what they do in most middle eastern countries; execute drug dealers. Otherwise, we are just spending tax payer's money on trials (and you know these scum will have court appointed attornies, at tax payers's expense). As these individuals are in the beginning process of thier trials, others will have already moved in with illegal drugs to sell. The death penalty would greatly reduce the amount of people willing to take a chance on dealing illegal drugs. We need to quit trying to put bandaids on our problems and look for a cure. Our country was founded on tough individuals who tackled problems to win. We must do the same.

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 22, 2008 at 07:33 AM
This is the second time recently that arrest have been made at the Hollywood motel, we don't need nor want this junk in our community. Close the motel DOWN! It's an eye sore anyway and bringing bad rep to our community. It's about time Kenova police done something, instead of hanging out at Speedway. Now if you would just start making arrest at all of the drug houses. It's really bad and a BLIND person could see it, why can't the police and the mayor see it also? Do your job and clean up the community!

Posted by: Joe on Sep 22, 2008 at 07:30 AM
Keep up the pressure. Dont let Kenova become the outskirts of Htown.

Posted by: CK on Sep 22, 2008 at 07:18 AM
wtg! I'm sure this was a joint effort of several law enforcement agencies, and hope the drug busts continue until the 'sellers' realize this isn't a favorable climate/area for their businesses-

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 22, 2008 at 07:01 AM
I think that those police officers need to come to Fort Gay an make a bust. Fort Gay has the worst town cops, they turn their heads on all of the drug houses in town.

Posted by: cob on Sep 22, 2008 at 06:53 AM
Well, what's the matter? Didn't have girls to pull over or innocent people to tailgate? Sunday must be a slow night.

Posted by: anon on Sep 22, 2008 at 06:24 AM
I agree with JC, about the comment he made!

Posted by: Wonders on Sep 22, 2008 at 03:19 AM
I'm so glad they caught these scumbags! I hope the woman that had her baby there around this activity NEVER gets him back. Huntington P.D. would do well to make note of these faces as they were just stopping on their way to where their real business is - downtown.

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 22, 2008 at 12:16 AM
It's about time. This kinda stuff goes on every day here. Even a stupid person could see a well know user or dealer going in and out of suspected homes daily and unless you want to take it upon yourself to get proof nothing will ever be done. To bad our cops can't be more interested in watching the known houses or people then just cruising around or trying to get people for petty things.

Posted by: Mark on Sep 21, 2008 at 11:59 PM
Outstanding, KPD. Keep it up and pay no attention to those who badmouth over whatever innocuous comment they can imagine. KUDO's!

You know, when people get busted, they should also be checked to see if they receive welfare or disability because they don't have a job or can't work and then they should be prosecuted for fraud. Alot of people make extra money by selling drugs and then pocket the assistance they receive. Hey, if they are smart enough to make money that way, they are smart enough to make money the way everyone else has to. If they are capable of walking to deal the drugs, they are capable of working a job.

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 21, 2008 at 11:02 PM
The cops should just start hanging out at the Hollywood. There are alot of shady people that come and go. What are the owners thinking when the let those type people stay there. I would hate to have my business name in a drug bust article. Pretty bad advertisement if you ask me.

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 21, 2008 at 10:50 PM
Well this is the only good thing the police officers of Ceredo and Kenova's done in a while. Way to go boys I knew you had it in you! *Claps*

They chose to use drugs and lost their jobs I didn't.
  • Posted By: KatyAs a teacher, I have no problem being randomly drug tested...as long as you agree to drug test the parents who enter the doors of my school as well. Most teachers deal with students who are exposed to/use more drugs and alcohol than any of the teachers. If these students or parents who are using drugs (and are not drug tested) enter our schools, the safety of the teachers and students are at risk. Since children spend more time with them, let's randomly drug test PARENTS, too!!!

I recently had a relative in the cardiac unit at Kings Daughters, in Ashland, and I was told that the nursing staff had been cut back and that no overtime was being given. This seems to be a drastic cut in patient care for a facility that spends thousands advertising that they are in the top 5% of cardiac hospitals in the country. I would be willing to wager that the Cleveland Clinic has not cut hours of those giving patient care.

  • Posted By: ChrisTo Ex-Officer: I agree with you 100% about the pay of police dept and the drug testing. I was formerly involved with the BCPD and had multiple ride alongs with the BCSO. I am probably one of their biggest critics due to having watch some of the bad side of the department for a long time. I wish that I could tell everything that I have seen officers do,which would put most of them behind bars or they'll lose their sheild, But retalliation is bad in our area. To the cops that do their job and do it with the best intentions, I proud of you and don't mean any disrespect. To the ones who I personally watch being more currupt then the "badguys" here, your day will be coming.
  • Posted By: PabloTeachers aren't the only ones underpaid. Law enforcement officers are underpaid also. And I'd like to speak about them. For example, I'm sure any parent would sacrifice their live for thier children. And several may give thier live to save their spouse. A few individuals may even do it for a close friend. But, I only know of 3 types of beings who will sacrifice thier lives for complete strangers; indeed even for people who hate them. The first would be our men and women in our armed forces. The second would be our law enforcement officers. And of course, third would be our Savior, Jesus Christ. Others are killed in the line of their employment, but not in order to save a complete stranger. Everytime a cop puts on his/her uniform, they can be a target for anyone upset about something. Even though it doesn't involve the cop personally, that very cop will give his life to save yours when a problem arises. We need to give our cops not only a wage, but a living wage and a great big THANKS.
  • Posted By: CraigIf what I am hearing is correct that Kanawha County teachers accepted a pay raise in return for submitting to drug testing, and then sued successfully so they do not have to be subject to testing, then why shouldn't we the taxpayers demand they return the raise?

I believe that all public safety workers should be drug tested but i also believe that they should be paid for the job that they do. Not many people understand what a public safty worker goes through. Would you put your life on the line for this kind of pay? Remember the saying that you get what you pay for. I see this in several new officers in my area. Don't get me wrong there are still very good officers in law enforcement. Something really needs to be done about the low pay for these jobs.

  • Posted By: RobertWe the people, through our own self centeredness and apathy, have allowed our teachers and police officials to be some of the most underpaid people in the United States. We are trusting our childrens education and our public safety to the very people that are some of the most underpaid profesions in the U.S.. If I could change this, I would. However, I do believe that these people should be randomly drug tested. I work in the construction industry and I have no problem being drug tested. I have nothing to hide. I also believe that any person who is intrusted with the safety of others should have nothing to hide. This includes plitical officials up to and including the president.
