Students Produce the News at Local Middle School
Chesapeake Middle School makes sure their students are in the know with a daily TV newscast. Reporter: Jay MelvinEmail Address: jay.melvin@wsaz.com |

CHESAPEAKE, Ohio (WSAZ) -- WPAW is Chesapeake Middle School's own television station.
The students come in every morning and put together their own news broadcast. The school provides equipment that's similar to what you'll find at a station like WSAZ.
Teacher Terry Montgomery says the program helps boost students' self-confidence.
Students learn there's a lot more to putting on a newscast than just stepping out in front of the camera. They get to know, then operate all of the equipment behind the scenes, too.
Some students are even preparing to take over our jobs here at WSAZ.

It's too bad that a wonderful school system and community has become a laughing stock to the surrounding school systems. Once again our Board of Education has hired a superintendant that doesn't care or know any of the families he is supposed to represent. He reminds you to call him DR.(what an ego!!!)when you speak to him. Thanks to the good teachers that care more for the kids than the stressful work conditions that this super has brought.

Thank you wsaz for bringing good news of our children and their teachers. Maybe we'll see them on 3 someday.

As a former Chesapeake student, I think it's great they still are having the WPAW. Although, I don't remember it during my junior and senior years, but they had it my 5th-freshman year.
