A new poll out from TIME/CNN Wednesday night shows Republican presidential candidate John McCain with a 50% to 46% lead over Democratic Presidential Candidate Barack Obama in West Virginia.

It's the first time TIME/CNN polled West Virginia. The cable channel lists the state as "Leaning McCain."

CNN's poll findings include a 2 to 1 lead among Independent voters for McCain in West Virginia. According to the poll, Obama leads among self-identified moderate voters. Obama also has a three point advantage among female voters in West Virginia, according to the results.

The survey of likely voters took place the past few days.

Well, well, well; what can I say. I am female. I was not for Hillary, I am not for Barack, never have been and never will be. I am of course a rare in Wayne county, I am a republican and I am for McCain and Palin all the way. I am also not for Byrd or Barth, I am for Shelly Capito. Republican all the way! It's time for change in WV...vote republican for a real change. O yeah, Manchin has been a very good governor in my opinion.

To Vicky: I agree with you about his father leaving his son, but I disagree with you in that he should have stayed in America to repay us for his education. I find his actions in line with my morals and probably yours as well because he came here to learn how to make his poor country a better place. Unfortunately for the people of Kenya, he was not as successful as he had wished.

Mc Cain certainly deserve the Presidancy

Posted by: Vicky on Sep 27, 2008 at 12:05 AM
Does it scare anyone that Obama has only lived in the US for about 35 years? I watched the debate tonight and his closing statement was on how his father was so grateful to come to America for his education. If his father was so grateful then why did he not stay in America and use his education to better America and raise his child? He used America just like his son will do if elected! Obama will screw us just like his father before him did!

McCain is as good as LOST!!!! He will never win the election. As a matter of fact, I believe he or his campaign manager must be on some serious drugs. And they honestly think the American people believe their rhetoric, well some do, but most with an open, halfway intelligent mind don't. Obama/Biden...our next president and vice president of the Untited States of America.....God Bless America!!!!

I don't like either of them!

Seriously, we hit you people with stone cold hard facts about Obama, and you STILL cling to the Rush Limbaugh/Sean Hannity idiotic, racist, FALSE, hate filled talking points. Whatever, I quit. Believe what you want. Just know that you're wrong, and get used to the idea that Barack Obama WILL be your next president. And even though you might hate him for whatever stupid, petty reason, he's still going to turn this country around for the better, and fight FOR you. Something NO Republican administration has done for many years...unless you're a corporate CEO. OBAMA/BIDEN 08!

Hate to tell you folks, but it will be a lot worse than 4 points!

"I heard Obamas plan and it works" Well why don't you clue us in on it, because it most certainly(what there is of it) does not."To Steven" is EXACTLY right. I won't say he's using Stalin's play book, but he has definitely expressed his admiration of Marx.Face it, he's a socialist. If that is what you're looking for in a President, then to each his own, but make no mistake,he is a socialist. As far as his leadership abilities and his "plan",which plan. He's changed it continuously. He makes a great speech, but the content changes depending on who he's talking to.As for this region, we get the speech and "plan" made up for the God fearing,Bible clinging, gun clutching crowd. San Fran. gets a very different speech. However, when put in a postion where he has to think on his feet, the true Barak comes out. He rambles, stutters and holds the new world record for "Um"'s. Structured debate-yes Town hall-won't do it. He is a puppet voicing the opinions and objectives of those pulling his strings.

FACTS about Barak. He is not a Muslim, but he doesn't walk the walk of a Chistian either. He INDEED supports gun control. He says he doesn't, but has NEVER, not ONE time, voted in the favor of our right to retain them.He has voted against or "present" every time.He is INDEED for gay marriage, and has been quoted numerous time stating that they should be guaranteed the same rights as any other citizen. He fought against Bush's tax credits to the middle class, stated earlier this year they would not continue and that he believed an increase in taxes would be a NECESSITY.Now he has a "plan" to lower taxes for everyone making less than 250K/year.The programs or his "plans" for the country could not be paid for with the tax increases he proposed earlier this year, how can they be paid for now with these cuts in taxes. Also, he has flip-flopped on the issue of coal. The guy just says what YOU want to hear, but the message changes with the audience. Looks like you've got some homework to do.

Posted by: To James on Sep 26, 2008 at 10:43 AM
You forgot to add McCain's inability to "multitask" That's the newest catch-word in the liberal rhetoruc that you've memorized...may want to add that one too. As far as your 'information' goes, you have no basis behind your belief that he will sink the educational system, the "tax your social security also has no basis other than the normal liberal scare tactics used EVERY election, and it was Barak who refused to debate McCain ALL SUMMER LONG in a town-hall format where questions come from citizens, not biased media figures. And as far as our economic state is concerned, Barak is elbow deep in the mess. He has received HUGE amounts of money from most of the intities involved. Truth is, this whole mess has been brought on by the likes of Barney Franks, Dobbs, and the rest of the mid 90's Dems who had a dream of "affordable housing" McCain warned this was going to happen years ago, but Barney just said that he was crying "the sky is falling."

Posted by: Lori on Sep 26, 2008 at 09:23 AM
Let me get this straight. McCain said he had not even looked at the proposal as late as Tues. Obama calls him on Wed. to put out a joint statement about the proposal. McCain agrees. Then a little bit later, He goes on tv saying that he is postponing his campaign because it is DIRE that he return to Wash. DC to inject presidential politics into the the BAIL OUT. He also wants to postpone the debate until this crisis is resolved. It seems to me, that he is not needed there until the House is ready to vote on the proposals. Minority Leader McConnel and Beoner are the key people needed to be there to inject the republicans safeguards into the proposal. WE NEED THE DEBATE TO TAKE PLACE TONIGHT. National Security and Economic Security are entertwined. You can't have one without the other. I for one want to know what their plans are to keep this nation safe and our economy strong. Remember the opium tea coming into Huntington from Afghanistan via Mexico? Afghanistan NSE postponed!

McCain is trying to make him self look like a knight in shining armor. I think hes terrified to go into a debate with Obama where they will have to discuss issues and he wont be able to just focus on personal attacks like he has been his whole campaign. I also think Palin is grasping at straws Alaska is neighbors with Russia and they fly planes over Alaska on their way to the rest of the states and for those reasons she has experience with foreign affairs? what a joke they need to keep her in interviews 24/7 so she can just dig that hole deeper and deeper. How many people were poled by the way? 500? these polls are silly because they only ask a very very small percentage of voters. Obama/Biden 08!!!!!

Posted by: billy on Sep 26, 2008 at 02:23 AM
new rasmusson poll take a day later has it mccain 50 percen and obama 42 among regersed voters, but you look at likeley voters the rate increase mccain 54 and obama43. bad new for obama bin ladin. i hop obama waste all his money in the mountain state, this is less money he will spend in pa, mich , wisky, and colorado. oh a new mason dixon poll has mccain up 51-47. more bad news for the bublling dukakis idiot.

Posted by: bad news liberals on Sep 26, 2008 at 01:15 AM
this democrat and my wife will never vote for a black panther racist muslim who shares the names of obama bib ladin and saddam hussein. please america wake up and see how those dam.n muslims are hijacking our elections and we must wake up. the last two polls ive seen had rasmusson mccain up by 8.7 percent taken today, and mason dixon had mccain up 53 to 39. if you think thats close go back to cnn and watch obama, that idiot studders and his eyes are glassy from his apparent drug use that he once admitted to.

First thing McCain left his campaigning to go to the Whitehouse to help with the negotiaions to help the economy of this nation. Because if we don't bail out the financial instutions, we will ALL pay for years. But whenever Obama was asked to go to help by the President, he thought campaigning was more important than the needs of the peoples' financial future. He has totally disregarded West Virginia saying that West Virginia was not important so he won't be coming here to campaign. So WHAT is important to him? It isn't this country or its people! And he proves it over and over every day, especially when the President asks him to help this country. But who is going? It is McCain. He is showing his support for the Nation and the troubles that we are having. That is where EXPERIENCE AND RESPECT come in. Obama has neither! I am a Dem,not racist, but want someone who will be there when we have problems and will help us. That is not Obama (change can be worse, not good).

Posted by: Kal on Sep 25, 2008 at 04:34 PM
Wow, "calhoun county", sounds like you've done all your homework. Oh wait, no you didn't.... Obama is a Christian, not a Muslim, he wasn't old enough to have been drafted while the U.S. still had a draft, he's not anti-gun, doesn't support gay marriage, will LOWER taxes on anyone making less than 250 grand a year, and will support drilling for oil as long as we're putting just as much effort into researching alternative energy sources. And why does it matter if he's pro choice? The government should never, ever have jurisdiction over what an individual does with their own body. Sorry to bring actual facts to the table, I know that's foreign to Republicans as of late...but hey, someone's gotta do it. OBAMA/BIDEN 08!

Posted by: calhoun county on Sep 25, 2008 at 12:59 PM
arg and cnn are two of the most left wing biased polls, one mccain plus 5 and the other plus 4, so if you times that number by 3 you will have a rasmusson and mason dixon accurate poll which has mccain up between 12-16 points. there is no way white rednecks will ever vote for a draftdodging, racist muslim, ant gun, pro abortion, pro anti gun, and supports gay marriage, and wants to raise taxes on the working man, he also will not drill for oil while hes muslims buddies in iran want to screw the american people.

I am white, middle aged and an immigrant, as an immigrant I can see no way people can vote for McCain. Does anyone want the present political fiasco to continue? I am not saying that Obama has all the answers but at least in his speeches he can demonstrate intelligence which McCain can not. As far as running mates go, I will be pleased if both of them just kept silent. Gov. Palin is the scariest woman alive and the Biden can do nothing but harm to the run for office of Obama. If this really is the land of freedom, please get over your prejudice and vote Obama.

Let me guess, they poll the inner cities. Charleston Huntington etc. It wont even be close.

Posted by: james on Sep 25, 2008 at 07:11 AM
well steven I would love to know where you get your false info. I heard obamas plan and it will work, its mccain that has no plan and no idea. stalins play book, get real guy. that sounds like desperate rich republican thats afraid of looseing a little money. No you people want to elect mccain, a man that will tax social security, unregulate the health care system and sink our education system. wow what a future to look forward to. this experience thing, lets get real what experience did regan have beside acting with a monkey, and who can forget george w the biggest joke of a president of all time. W.V., KY, and OH will be hurt the worst if mccain wins, heck mccain is to scared to have a debate, he wont let his vice pres pick do interviews why would you elect people like that. 1 example , the economy is strong, were is a slow down, now its a dire emergancy, i though this was all in our heads you nation of whinners.

I am a Pentecostal Church attending, 32 year old, divorced mother, who also happens to be white, and I am voting Obama. I wasn't polled. so here is my pole answer Obama 08.

Another recent poll has the race in WV very tight. The new American Research Group (ARG) has the race at 49% - 45% McCain. http://www.americanresearchgroup.com/pres2008/WV08.html I am very shocked Obama has 45 to 46 percent in this state and could win it with a concerted effort. After he lost the WV primary so big for him to be competitive is amazing.

Posted by: dS on Sep 24, 2008 at 11:29 PM
funny, i didn't get polled and no one i know got polled. i can only guess where voters in the state were contacted for this poll.

What does racism have to do with the person best qualified for the job? Obama has no experience, no plans, is a puppet, and has done NOTHING during the entire time he has been in Congress. He stutters worse than Bush ever could possibly dream of. He does not want to protect babies born alive. He is a socialist, and his plans are out of Stalin's play book. He has promised to undo the tax benefits we receive now, such as increasing taxes for ALL tax brackets, bringing back the DEATH tax, and the marriage penalty. Yeah, he is for change alright. I just don't want that kind of change. I feel like I should get off my butt and work to earn money to put food on my table and care for my family and not let society do it for me for free. It is called personal responsibility. Look into it. What happened to the best person for the job? What happened to having good credit to earn a mortgage for the house? What happened to paying your bills? Get a life.

You're right Steven. Every African-American I've spoken to says they are voting for Obama. That is what you were eluding to, right?

Thats not to bad considering there are a lot of racists here in WV.

  • Posted By: joeI have worked for companies all over this nation and have had to take drug tests. Why should teachers be exempt from this practice? It is now common to be randomly tested(and I have been) so what makes a teacher any different than a steel worker. I can say proudly that I passed but I have seen those who didn't. They chose to use drugs and lost their jobs I didn't.
  • Posted By: KatyAs a teacher, I have no problem being randomly drug tested...as long as you agree to drug test the parents who enter the doors of my school as well. Most teachers deal with students who are exposed to/use more drugs and alcohol than any of the teachers. If these students or parents who are using drugs (and are not drug tested) enter our schools, the safety of the teachers and students are at risk. Since children spend more time with them, let's randomly drug test PARENTS, too!!!

Israel targets military targets, respons to from whence rockets or gun fire comes. What would we fire at if Huntington was attacked? Why does the media not put bla,e where balame belongs, and give moral support to the aggreived. What would America do if attacked? to whom would we listen? • Posted By: RobertAlthough I feel for the employees that lost their positions at Cabell Huntington Hospital, at least more nurses were hired. I recently had a relative in the cardiac unit at Kings Daughters, in Ashland, and I was told that the nursing staff had been cut back and that no overtime was being given. This seems to be a drastic cut in patient care for a facility that spends thousands advertising that they are in the top 5% of cardiac hospitals in the country. I would be willing to wager that the Cleveland Clinic has not cut hours of those giving patient care.
  • Posted By: BoydIf the state's budget is doing so well, why don't we use some of this money to help towns and cities in the state who are in trouble with their budget, or will this just become another pay raise for politicians?
  • Posted By: RobWhy does everyone have to be so into using the term "racist" and have that kind of attitude. I know what my heritage is and who my ancestors were but you want to know what I consider myself? I AM AN AMERICAN! I was born and raised in this country and that's how I feel it should be. Born here, raised here.....then by God you are an American. Not an African American, not an Asian American etc. etc. You are an AMERICAN!
  • Posted By: ChrisTo Ex-Officer: I agree with you 100% about the pay of police dept and the drug testing. I was formerly involved with the BCPD and had multiple ride alongs with the BCSO. I am probably one of their biggest critics due to having watch some of the bad side of the department for a long time. I wish that I could tell everything that I have seen officers do,which would put most of them behind bars or they'll lose their sheild, But retalliation is bad in our area. To the cops that do their job and do it with the best intentions, I proud of you and don't mean any disrespect. To the ones who I personally watch being more currupt then the "badguys" here, your day will be coming.
  • Posted By: PabloTeachers aren't the only ones underpaid. Law enforcement officers are underpaid also. And I'd like to speak about them. For example, I'm sure any parent would sacrifice their live for thier children. And several may give thier live to save their spouse. A few individuals may even do it for a close friend. But, I only know of 3 types of beings who will sacrifice thier lives for complete strangers; indeed even for people who hate them. The first would be our men and women in our armed forces. The second would be our law enforcement officers. And of course, third would be our Savior, Jesus Christ. Others are killed in the line of their employment, but not in order to save a complete stranger. Everytime a cop puts on his/her uniform, they can be a target for anyone upset about something. Even though it doesn't involve the cop personally, that very cop will give his life to save yours when a problem arises. We need to give our cops not only a wage, but a living wage and a great big THANKS.
  • Posted By: CraigIf what I am hearing is correct that Kanawha County teachers accepted a pay raise in return for submitting to drug testing, and then sued successfully so they do not have to be subject to testing, then why shouldn't we the taxpayers demand they return the raise?
  • Posted By: teresaracist lmao i am one cherokee, german, irish, german, and who knows what else TIRED of hearing of racist comments u are either GOOD OR BAD k no skin color needed just evil or NOT
  • Posted By: Ex-OfficerI agree with Robert 100% I worked in law enforcement and loved the job but try to rise a family on less than 10.00 an hour (out of that pay for your own duty gear and gun). I believe that all public safety workers should be drug tested but i also believe that they should be paid for the job that they do. Not many people understand what a public safty worker goes through. Would you put your life on the line for this kind of pay? Remember the saying that you get what you pay for. I see this in several new officers in my area. Don't get me wrong there are still very good officers in law enforcement. Something really needs to be done about the low pay for these jobs.
  • Posted By: GarlandWhat's the difference between teachers and other workers(coal mineers, bus drivers, state employees, etc.)? Teachers aren't any better are they?
  • Posted By: This is not a comment, but I would like comments on it please. What do you think of Poca High School? Racist or not?
  • Posted By: RobertWe the people, through our own self centeredness and apathy, have allowed our teachers and police officials to be some of the most underpaid people in the United States. We are trusting our childrens education and our public safety to the very people that are some of the most underpaid profesions in the U.S.. If I could change this, I would. However, I do believe that these people should be randomly drug tested. I work in the construction industry and I have no problem being drug tested. I have nothing to hide. I also believe that any person who is intrusted with the safety of others should have nothing to hide. This includes plitical officials up to and including the president.
