CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The first campaign finance reports out for the general election in West Virginia show Governor Joe Manchin with a large advantage in fundraising.
Manchin has $1.9 million cash on hand heading into the final full month of campaigning. Republican opponent Russ Weeks has $10,705 cash on hand and Mountain Party candidate Jesse Johnson has $973.
Incumbent Attorney General Darrell McGraw holds a 3-1 money advantage over his opponent, Republican Dan Greear. McGraw has $99,654 compared to $31,917 for Greear.
Two seats are up for grabs on the West Virginia Supreme Court. Margaret Workman leads in all polling that has been released to the public, but has less cash on hand than one of her opponents in the final weeks. Workman, a Democrat and former Supreme Court Justice, has $109,864 to spend, while opponent Beth Walker, the Republican candidate, has $248,102 cash on hand. The report for Menis Ketchum, another Democratic candidate, was not available as of Monday evening.
In the race for Secretary of State, Democrat Natalie Tennant currently has $18,546 on hand compared to $1,017 for Republican opponent Charles Minimah. Tennant and Minimah are attempting to succeed current Secretary of State Betty Ireland.
The race for Commissioner of Agriculture shows incumbent Gus Douglass has $3840 on hand compared to $3589 for opponent Michael Teets, the Republican. However, Teets has spent more than $171,000 in his bid to unseat Douglass, who has more than four decades of built-in name recognition. Douglass has spent $17,942 so far.
