PUTNAM COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The Nippon Thermostat Company announced a $4 million investment in their plant in Fraziers Bottom, creating 30 additional jobs by 2016.
That will more than double the plant's current workforce.
The company broke ground Tuesday on an expansion project that will add 26,000 square feet to the facility.
"This expansion announcement from Nippon Thermostat is another great example of the strong business relationship we've built with a number of Japanese companies," Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin (D) said.
This is the third groundbreaking for a Japanese company in West Virginia since Tomblin made his trade mission to Japan in June.
"It just emphasizes the importance of having that personal relationship with Japanese investors,” he said. “They like that personal touch."
Akari Mori is the general manager of the Tokyo-based company. He says the expansion is necessary to meet their demand to produce additional vehicle engine thermostats.
Putnam County Commissioner Joe Haynes says the expansion is evidence workers county officials have done something right.
“The expansion means they've been pleased with doing business together, and they plan to be here for a while," Haynes said.
The expanded manufacturing facility is expected to be completed by March.
The plant opened in 2005.
