COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSAZ) --The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency has awarded a 1.9 million dollar loan to the Gallia Rural Water Association to replace its outdated water meters.
The new meters will be more accurate and will be read remotely, rather than being direct-read meters.
The EPA says in the past, 15 to 23 percent of the water produced
by Gallia Rural has been lost due to inaccurate meters.
Minimizing water loss will decrease pumping and conserve energy and chemicals needed to treat excess water.
Replacement of the meters will take approximately one year and is slated to start later this summer.
