Some advice before starting those summer projects around your home. If you're planning to hire someone to get the job done, know that business inside and out! That's the message from the West Virginia Attorney Generals Office. More than twenty people say they've learned that the hard way! The company they say ripped them off was actually in court today.
Rosalea Jackson is an alleged victim of Mountaineer Roof, she said "I felt confident that he was going to do what he was going to do." Problem is Mrs. Jackson says he didn't, now she's just one of twenty-three customers taking her contractor to court.
But like all the others, Jackson found Mountaineer Roof and Construction right in the phone book.
She did a background check, but apparently, not well enough. Her garage, the company was hired to build still isn't finished! And she's out thousands of dollars!
Leonard Larkins is another alleged victim. He says, "I just can't believe this man hasn't lost his license." Mountaineer Roof is still in business, today the owner posted a twenty-five thousand dollar bond and promised to keep a professional practice.
Jackson says, "I thought he was a good person, I guess he just talked a good game."
We tried to talk to Dana Sanders today, the owner of mountaineer roof and construction but he chose not say to anything about this case. A trial has been set in this case for may 2007. Some customers say they've already waited more than 8 years to get their money back.
