PUTNAM COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The name for the new elementary school in Putnam County is now down to three choices.
Principal Doug Pitzer released the top three choices for the new Teays Valley Elementary School on Tuesday. Now, it's up to the community to decide the winning name.
Selection #1:
Name: Central Valley Elementary
Mascot: Vikings
School Colors: purple, silver, and black
Selection #2:
Name: Mountainview Elementary
Mascot: Mountain Lions
School Colors: gold and black
Selection #3:
Name: Putnam Crossing Elementary
Mascot: Panthers
School Colors: blue and silver
The community was asked to help name the new school back in September. Over the last few weeks, the public has nominated hundreds of names, mascots, and school colors for the new elementary school.
On Friday, a screening committee picked the three finalists and now it's up to the students and parents to decide on the winning name.
Students, staff, and parents will now vote on the winner.
Students will vote on Friday, October 12. Then, parents will have the chance to share their input during parent-teacher conferences on Monday, October 20.
The school board will then have the final say on the winning name.

Why not just keep it Teays Valley Elementary? We already have a Scott Teays and a West Teays. To me it seems as though this would fit in more with those.

Its a good thing I don't live in Putnam County. If I did, I'd be raising Hell that only school children and their parents get to choose the name of the new school. If I was a Putnam County resident and paying for the school, I think I should have a say in choosing a name. After all, how many of these voting kids pay taxes? To be honest, I really don't care what they call it. I just feel everyone in Putnam County should have a say, since all adult residents will be paying for it.
