Sissonville HS Opening a Student Clinic
Students at Sissonville High School will soon be able to hit the books and get a physical all in the same building.

SISSONVILLE, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Students at Sissonville High School will soon be able to hit the books and get a physical all in the same building.
Kanawha County Head Nurse Brenda Isaac says the high school and the Sissonville branch of the Cabin Creek Clinic have signed an agreement to offer a student-based health center.
At first, the clinic will only be opened two days a week, but the school hopes to expand that once the clinic is up and running.
A physician assistant will work closely with the school's nurse to set up appointments.
"The clinic will provide primary care and medical care as needed," Brenda Isaac said.
That means students can get well-child physicals and immunizations.
Students can only participate in the program if their parents sign a permission form.
Isaac says several of the students at Sissonville High School already use the Sissonville branch of the Cabin Creek Clinic.
The school's clinic will accept insurance cards and also help any uninsured students.
The school hopes to open the clinic by the end of October or first of November.

I think this is an awesome idea. To: Anonymous on Oct 9, 2008 at 03:46 PM; It's certainly NOT mandatory...please read carefully next time before commenting. You don't have to allow your child to participate.
Riverside High also has this and it is great! As mentioned, the parent signs the permission form at the beginning of each school year. If your child needs a physical or if your child gets a twisted ankle, etc., you can call and arrange an appointment,your child is called out of class for the appt, and then returns to class afterwards. This saves the parent from having to take off time from work. The clinic will contact the parent to share any needed information. At the high school age level 15-18, I've always given my children the option of doing the office visit w/doctor by themselves without me present. Personally, I think community healthcare would be great to have at all high schools.
Aren't the schools in our business enough without trusting them with our childrens healthcare?
