MAGOFFIN COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) -- Magoffin County continues to operate under a state of emergency because of a water shortage, and a boil water advisory is in effect.
The water company has taken several calls from worried residents, but officials said there is no danger that the water supply will be cut off. In fact, with most residents and businesses working to conserve water, levels have risen slightly in the county's wells. Magoffin County gets most of its water from the Licking River, which is abnormally low this year because of the lingering drought.
On Monday, the county received a tanker truck of water from Kentucky American Water in Lexington.
Original story
FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - State emergency management officials have declared a water supply emergency in the eastern Kentucky county of Magoffin.
Prolonged drought conditions have caused the Licking River - the area's primary water source - to run low.
Division of Water official Chris Yeary said the current water supply is limited to the amount stored in a pool at Salyersville.
Yeary said that won't be replenished until there is significant rain and little relief is forecast.
The state is working with Salyersville Municipal Water to establish alternative supply sources.
For now, officials said people in Magoffin County must conserve as much water as possible.

We need more attention with this water shortage. I'm 14 years old in MCHS, and all the signs in the school near the water fountains say, "BOIL WATER ADVISORY UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE". I'm sorry to say this but this news site has very little info and it's old. All the city water has so manny chemiclas in it that I heard that a woman was shaving her legs in the shower, and nicked herself, shae had city water, and her leg got infected. We need more attention with this subject. Please, we need more attention so the government will do something, we don't need any sewage water from the licking river, we need good water.
