HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – It has been reported for months that John McCain would have a relatively easy time winning West Virginia, but a new poll shows Barack Obama has made quite the comeback.

The American Research Group reported that for the first time Obama has taken the lead here in the Mountain State. The poll shows that if the election were held today, Obama would capture 50 percent of the vote compared with Republican presidential candidate McCain's 42 percent.

This is a big turn around from previous polls, which showed McCain leading by a wide margin in West Virginia.

There is a huge difference between being "pro abortion" or being for "infanticide" and allowing a woman (and her doctor)the right of CHOICE. Why in the world would any of you want to tell a woman she has to die if she can't carry a baby to full term because of an illness, condition, or other medical problem determined by her doctor? Would you men do that to your wives or girl friends? Would you women want it decided for you? And remember, as things are now, you can decide for yourself to have an abortion or not. But you do NOT have the right to refuse another woman the right to her own life to satisfy your own political or religious views.

To Democrat for McCain on Oct 11, 2008 at 10:17 AM I couldn't have said it better! Like it or not, folks, WV is practically kept afloat due to coal, either directly or indirectly. Both of my parents are dems., and they will both be voting McCain.

Well, guess what? The Brady Campaign has officially endorsed Obama. Yet, he has not told them that he doesn't want their endorsement. Ya see, The Brady Campaign is the most anti-gun organization that exists. Entirely suitable for them to endorse the most anti-gun candidate for president that has ever run for office. Put Obama in office with a Democrat House and Senate and he will sign ALL the Anti-Gun Legislation that comes his way.

Boy, the McCain supporters are throwing anything they can get their hands on, and still won't win the election. Enjoy waisting your time, no one undecided person will listen to your so intelligent comments. Face the facts, Obama/Biden will be the next leaders of the United States. THANK GOD!!!!

Posted by: angela on Oct 13, 2008 at 08:36 PM
ppl think that obama is for abortion , what do they think about mccain , who is for keeping the war going, that is killing our service men, which is over 4,000. And, only God knows how many innocent civilians , including children , have died over there. What is it accomplishing staying over there. And, I Cannot afford to have another republican in office. And, he is old what if he dies, then what do we get running the country, Sarah Palin- that's scary to think about. I was a Hillary supporter, and I am proud to say that I support Obama . And, I am not a racist, like some of you are.

Joanne your little timeline seems to be a big list of people Obama may have met, or events that may have happened. You called them facts but most of the claims used words like may, might, and probably. It's just another lame attempt by someone to scare the American people into thinking that Obama is a terrorist. Well I for one am not anti-american, muslim, or a terrorist and am proud to be voting for Obama.

Posted by: Say so. on Oct 13, 2008 at 05:01 PM
Boo Obama--Infant killing,Muslim loving--What else can I say. I would rather be poor and have morals than have a booming economy in which everything goes! Obama has no idea what he doing or what he is goingto do.

To Dave and Kel...Two of the most intelligent posts on here. It's a shame it falls on deaf ears. All you have to do is scan through the posts and 90% of the conservatives have posted facts that can be supported, while 90% of the libs are treating this like it was a sporting event; rooting for the Democratic 'Team.' And to "the poll"-I don't know what the breakdown in the polls are, but the most recent poll conducted by the Washington Post was made up of 283 Republicans and 444 Democrats and Obama was winning by 8 points-Imagine that!

Get your facts straight. He was clear from everything in the Keating 5. What about your precious Messiah... taught ACORN how to intimidate banks on lending money to those who couldn't afford it. TRUTH: May 25, 2006, "If Congress does not act, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system and the economy as a whole," by McCain. FM & FMc bought loans Obama forced sub-prime lenders to make. Obama also sued the mortgage co's to force them to make loans they would lose $$ on. Rames made $90MILLION on those loans personally. These same idiots are the ones running Obama's policies and campaign. Do you see the mess he created and how it will be worse if these same people get back into office? HE DID STAND UP TO THEM. YOUR DEM CONGRESS LET THIS HAPPEN. GET THE FACTS!!Oh, wait, that won't happen on OBAMedia stations.

Posted by: jannett on Oct 13, 2008 at 03:35 PM
Your facts are incorrect Lois, Obama/Biden IS NOT change to believe in!! He is a fake! And Jesus cannot guide someone who does not believe in God (or our country for that matter).

Posted by: Debbie on Oct 13, 2008 at 02:43 PM
You know I have a pretty good memory and I do recall in the 2000 primaries how the conservs brought out all of McCain's questionable deals and associations. I do respect McCain for debunking some of the allegations against Obama though. I do find it laughable how some of you are acting like Dems will make things worse, since this is the worse economic crash EVER. Worse than 1929. However unlike you folks blinded by elephants and donkeys I do see there is plenty of blame on both sides. I'm independant and have been on the fence and was worried about Obama's lack of experience. However now that I see what good experience has done for us, I say get rid of all the "experienced politicians' and bring in new blood. Period. Yes I feel pretty certain Obama will be the next president, And may God be with him, and us.

Posted by: Kel on Oct 13, 2008 at 01:29 PM
Obama sees nothing wrong with infanticide. not just abortion but infanticide. he voted 3 times against a bill that would allow dr's to give medical treatment to a baby that was born alive in a botched abortion attempt. he voted against this because he thought it would be a burden to the doctors and the mother. a burden? I'm sorry but this is walking on the dark side. Why is it that democrats promote a culture of death? Pretty soon if grandma is not a productive member of society. grandma will be left for dead. Just think about what Obama's socialist health care plan will be.

Posted by: dave on Oct 13, 2008 at 01:06 PM
everyone says McCain is another Bush, well Obama is another Carter. Argue that all you want, but look into the things carter said during his campain and then tell me Obama isnt a carbon copy. You can hate bush all you want and it still wont make Obama any smarter. If you people were truly as educated as you say you are, you would know that a lot of things happen in this country that are not caused by the president.

Sean Hannity's show has real video clips of Obama and Biden flip flopping about topics such as clean coal, which they don't want.... Obama is not telling the truth. Watch Hannity tonight and get the truth about Obama and Biden. You will see actual video of Obama. The words are coming from his mouth. How can the man say and do the things he has done and think he can get by with it. They have real actual video of the man. Please West Virginia and everyone in America wake up. Obama is not the man to be President. Please vote for John McCain for President of this great nation on November 4, 2008!!!

Tickle their ear and tell um what they want to hear, when election is near. This has worked in WV every year for as long as I can remember. When will people wake up and look where it has gotten us! Last in the nation in anything good and near first place in low wages and druges. Now they want us to support a presidental candidate of their choosing. Obama/Bitum ann Barff? No thanks I've had enough!

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 13, 2008 at 07:52 AM
Let's start with Granny who called Obama a Muslim idiot, when in fact Obama is a Christian and in no part Muslim. Kevin, what cave have you been in to say that Obama doesn't believe in God... I think most Christians believe in God. Finally Fred, Obama is pro-choice not pro-abortion. There is a big difference in supporting abortion and supporting giving everyone the option to make their own choice. Obama is not pro-gay marriage. but is pro-civil union which gives same sex couples the same civil rights they deserve. Obama believes in the constitutional right to bear-arms, and will do nothing to take away your guns. He will try to reinstate the ban on assault rifles, which are not needed for anything outside of war anyways. Oh yeah Huntingtonian is right, watching Republican News... I mean Fox News for the truth on Obama is only good for those of you who want to see the most one-sided truth and not the whole story that affects both candidates.

Who in a million years would think that one minute they are cutting americans heads off on youtube and the next minute someone with a muslim back ground and family would be elected president? Give the bully your lunch money and he will like you better !!!!

I AM SO DISGUSTED!! Are WV residents nuts? McCain could sit there and fall asleep and I would still vote for him! I AM A democrat and would NEVER vote for Obama!! He lies, is for abortion, gay marriage, gun control, not to mention he is MUSLIM!! He DOES NOT believe in God!! God help our country if he becomes president!! If so, prepare for all h#@@ to break loose. Get your facts straight on Obama before voting!!!! Forget the TV, research the web, I have found more information on here than anywhere else. Take a good heart look at Tri County Sportshop's website and see what has happened to others who have had "gun control" happen to them!! Think everything will get better if Obama is elected? THINK AGAIN!! Obama has been called the 'anti-christ' in some articles. I don't know about you but that scares the h#@@ out of me! All the things he has said about WV and KY were enough that we need to omit him from our minds all together!! Follow your heart on this one!! Say NOBAMA!!!

Hey hil billy, It sounds like you have worked for them and know the facts! If everyone knew the truth like you and I the polls would be packed out this election! Just say No to Obama and his political backers or you, (will be sorry)!

Posted by: Janette on Oct 12, 2008 at 09:08 PM
Fred, why is so hard for some people to see the truth? Is it that most just don't care? Has the majority fallen this low? Doesn't most realize what we have at risk to loose here? Is this the great lie spoken about where a delusion has fallen upon the masses? It is a promise of prosperity, where there will be none! It was brought in, over and against the will of the people of WV! Will the Obama followers be behind him on judgement day and hear, depart from me I never knew you? ! I think the likelyhood is greater than the probability of not!

unfortunately my last comment was very misspelled due to a recent loss of sleep, but I am glad Kevin understood me. I am very worried about this ACORN issue and I am hoping that, because it seems that the polls are supporting Obama, that people are not getting on the bandwagon and voting for Obama. Racism has been the base of his campaign and people fell for it. While now, McCain has to defend himself so people don't think he is a racist, or he has to point things out about Obama to get people to open their eyes before voting. I am truly scared that we are going to be in worse shape because people are too scared to stand up for their opinions for fear of being considered a racist. The news channels are covering Obama for the same fear. Time to wake up people.

Posted by: Jeannie on Oct 12, 2008 at 08:07 PM
Good Going WVA!!!! As a former WV'n, I am very proud of WVA (for the first time in my life). McCain is gonna raise your taxes by introducing a new tax on your health insurance. This is a TAX INCREASE on the middle class. This is also a wake up call to those of you who believe McCain will cut taxes on the Middle Class. Would you vote for someone who says they are going to cut your taxes (Obama) or someone who already says he is doing to raise your taxes (McCain)!!

Mymy....CNN or MSNBC for the truth?? YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING ME!! MSNBC is so far left its not even funny. And even though CNN is and has ALWAYS been left leaning, unlike MSNBC, CNN actually shows some courtesy, respect, and journalistic integrity when reporting. But in the long run, these two networks are as one sided for the left as you accuse FOX of being for the right. I really can't understand why some of you are so upset by FOX. They are just doing for the right, what the other networks have been doing for the left all these years. The only difference is now we don't have to suffer with the likes of PMSNBC if we do not choose to. Don't like FOX? Then do what I do with PMSNBC and CNN......CHANGE THE CHANNEL!!

WV4McCain- To tell people to watch Fox news to get "the truth about Obama" has got to be the most ridiculous statement I've read all day. Sean Hannity doesn't know how to speak anything but hatred and false information. Plus, his voice is ANNOYING. And Shawna- People may respect your opinion a little more, even though it's obvious you don't know what you're talking about, if you didn't have 5 grammatical errors in 2 sentences.

I'm the son of a coal miner and I'm not voting for Obama. He supports anti-gun laws, is pro abortion, is pro gay marriage (he is against proposition 8 in CA which defines marriage as between man and a woman), and supports the agenda of the ACLU which is trying to remove crosses and pictures of Jesus from the public space. NOPE.

If history is anything it should teach that in 1989 Sen.McCain cost tax payers $293 billion in bailout of his "closest friend" who stole millions from old people's retirement accounts in the savings and loans banks scam he ran.4 other Senators were in on it but McCain was the only one rebuked in open Congress for his underhanded actions. He has not "changed"except it's over twice the cost this time!Want to try again?maybe next time if he's able to keep his ideas of no regulations on the books the cost will go to 4 times.

John McCain is a true American hero ,no one really disputes that he endured way more than most to serve his country but during the last 8 yrs. he has allowed himself to be considered part of the Bush administration, You would think knowing he was going to run for president he would have cut his ties & separated himself from George Bush & his administration long ago but the truth is he couldn't & he can't now ,he can't hide the fact he agreed & supported the Bush Administrations actions all the while our country was going down the tubes morally & finantually. He voted for the war & has supported the way the current administration has handled our government & that disqualifies him from my vote. If he was such a maverick why didn't he stand up against the very people who got us where we are today instead of supporting them?

Having McCain who only looks out for the rich in office with his absolutely outrageous lack of economic knowledge is the most frightening prospect I have ever known. McCain's people have put out a LOT of misguided information about Obama. Try finding the truth and you will find our next best leader. McCain is DEFINITELY not the person you want! Nobody has polled me. There is no way I would vote for a man of such character as Obama or Biden. They have lied to the American People too many times. Please watch Hannity on FoxNews. You will see the truth about Barrack. I'm a democrat who will be voting Republican. Senator John McCain is the best choice to get the USA out of this economic mess. Please vote for Senator John McCain for President of the United States on November 4th! McCain/Palin 2008.

I've been trying to look at this on the bright side, but I can't find one. Maybe we will have some valuable ocean front property here on Gilbert Creek soon after Obama gets elected, if we are amoung the survivors. No, even that won't help because nobody will have any money then. Oh, well don't everyone run for the high grounds when it happens because we don't have the room for very many more up here in these hills.

Can't believe there are people still out there that accept Palin, a TRAITOR. She and her spouse are both supporters of the Alaska Independence Party people.

To:Democrat for McCain...In January, 2003 McCain wrote and introduced cliimate change legislation into Congress, Senate Bill 139, "The Climate Stewardship Act of 2003." An analysis done by the U.S. Energy Information Administration in May, 2004 said: "Under S. 139 (McCain's bill), the reductions in U.S. coal production...are estimated to be 14 percent in 2010 and 78 percent in 2025." That of course was shot down soooooo.... in 2007, McCain introduced yet another climate change bill, Senate Bill 280. This time he took aim at coal production east of the Mississippi River, especially in Appalachia. An analysis of McCain's 2007 legislation by the Environmental Protection Agency showed that the bill called for a cut in Appalachian coal production for electricity generation by 30 percent by 2025. http://www.umwa.org/index.php?q=compac/real-mccain-record-coal If coals your issue your should deff check that out.

Melinda once again proves she is crazy. McCain and Palin are the real Christians. It sounds really Christian to have an affair on your wife or use your power to carry out a family grudge. McCain and Palin are no more Christian than Obama/Biden and if you truely believe he is the anti-christ you shouldn't even be allowed to vote until you can come to the table with a rational thought as to why you back McCain.

Hey, if I told you that how to work on a car, but have never done it before, would you hire me to fix it anyway? Gotta love the people around here who want to vote for a smooth talking attorney with no experience just because they are afraid someone would think they are prejudice. Pretty scary how everyone is being manipulated. The news wants to make sure Obama has coverage so they don't seem prejudice. They did it with Hillary and Obama and now McCain and Obama. Please vote for McCain because you guys are going to make this place a 3rd World. If this Obama were right, would you really vote for his policies? (whatever policy that is since he won't answer a question).

Could this Research Poll report be related to the voter fraud reported by Secretary Ireland that the news media hasn't talked about for several weeks? Hummmmmmmm? Acorn perhaps?

Wow! Barack Obama is going to bring Change! Change we can Believe In! Seriously, what's he going to change? Nothing. All of you fanatics who continue to tow the Democratic party line (Democrats have done SO much for our state in the last 100 years, by the way) need to wake up and think for yourselves. Oh wait, that won't be happening anytime soon.

Great news. West Virginians need to realize that McCain and Palin offer us nothing but the same old ideas.

Obama is leading? Great news. WV is not as narrow minded and uneducated as some people think. Go Obama!

Now if we could only get Shelley More Capito out of office. Anne Barth will work with Obama and move this state and country forward. Shelley Moore Capito is a holdover from the Bush/Cheney era and she needs to go. Put Shelley Moore Capito out to pasture and vote for Anne Barth for the U. S. House of Representitives.

Look at all the bad people he knows and won't andmit to and anything he has done bad in his past he has been able to hide. He has more bashing comments on ads than anyone. And in the debates he doesn't ever anser a question its "UH,WELL,LETS SEE", MCCAIN HAS DONE THIS AND PRMOSIED THIS". Its Never what is he going to do, we don't need another moron raising taxes we pay enough and why would you give back to the welfare system when the ones working cannot even get the help. Maybe the people in West Virginia with no brains will vote for him but the ones with brains will vote for McCain and Palin...THE REAL CHRISTIANS!

Obama is getting closer to a landslide , he will have a significant margine . I sense McCain is facing the numbers the republican national committee is trying to dig up anything they can to discredit Obama . This may have an opposite effect on undecided voters , the economy is likely to rule voters from here on out . I look for the market to decline further its probable best to let it crash and salvage those elements that are still viable and have assets in the positive column .I hear so many people crying about what they lost but it all comes down to them making a choice to gamble with their money .It will eventually come back to the basic idea of working hard saving your money and not getting into debt .

When worse comes to worse... Amazing how that little phrase will pay out when NOBAMA AND BIDEN are voted in. Kiss your freedoms, money, liberties, and suvs goodbye. Problem is, depending on where you live, you need all of them.

Our country is heading for very tough times. The most important thing our next president can do is give us hope and courage to get through it,especialy with our young people. They are the ones that will have to carry the biggest load.I am ashamed of the burden we have left our children.I feel Obama is more inspiring than McCain.I will vote for Obama.

These Polls are off the mark to a great degree. I think McCain will win WV, but Ohio will decide the next POTUS from everything I have been able to figure from Polls and news accounts over the past several weeks.

Omg I could not have said it better than "Concerned Voter" just did, You are so very much right, we do need a change and we do not need another Bush in office for another 4 years. Our country cannot with stand another 4 years like the 8 we just had. Can you all imagine what this country would look like if we had another 4 years with Bush (McCain)? We couldn't make it, we'd be broke, on the streets, and possibly without jobs anywhere. Just take a good long look at our economy the way it is now!! And what about our soldiers, if things don't change they will have died for nothing, we need to change things so our men and women of our armed services will have something good and positive to come home too. They (and their families) have put their lives on the line for all of us and for the greater good now, its our turn to do something good for them....give them the positive changes needed!! ( Just my Opinion).

I guess those "John McCain is anti-coal" ads worked. Too bad that is what it takes to get West Virginian's to vote for change. Whatever works I guess though. We can't stand 4 ,let alone 8, more years of Neo-Conservatism in America. Vote for Obama. Vote for change.

Great news. I feel shame for McCain. While I would have never voted for him, on the issues, I did respect him at one time. If it had to be GOP, he is who I would have chosen. He has stepped over to the dark side of GOP. Dark side of politics.

GO OBAMA/BIDEN. People we need to take a stand behind a change. We need someone that isn't in the White House to get Richer while we suffer. If Palin and McCain get in office mark my words gas prices will continue to climb, stock market will Crash worse then it has this week. And more people will be living in the streets. It is time to stand up for what we believe in and Do you people want to live another 4 years like the last 8 years if not VOTE OBOMA/BIDEN in November. Due your Children and Grandchildren a favor. Lets make sure there is something for them to look forward to. Set aside our differences of race/ethinic background. • Posted By: joeI have worked for companies all over this nation and have had to take drug tests. Why should teachers be exempt from this practice? It is now common to be randomly tested(and I have been) so what makes a teacher any different than a steel worker. I can say proudly that I passed but I have seen those who didn't. They chose to use drugs and lost their jobs I didn't.
  • Posted By: KatyAs a teacher, I have no problem being randomly drug tested...as long as you agree to drug test the parents who enter the doors of my school as well. Most teachers deal with students who are exposed to/use more drugs and alcohol than any of the teachers. If these students or parents who are using drugs (and are not drug tested) enter our schools, the safety of the teachers and students are at risk. Since children spend more time with them, let's randomly drug test PARENTS, too!!!
  • Posted By: stephenWhy the heavy emphasis ont he damage to property and life Israel is doing . Where was the media uproar for years that Hamas was rocketing Israel irespective of innocent israelis.. Hamas is actualykilling their own citizens by firing rockets from UN schools and residents. Why does UN allow Hamas to use facilities for attacking Israel, then complain when Israel responds to protect their territory and citizens. Israel targets military targets, respons to from whence rockets or gun fire comes. What would we fire at if Huntington was attacked? Why does the media not put bla,e where balame belongs, and give moral support to the aggreived. What would America do if attacked? to whom would we listen? Russia, Saudi Arabia,Iran?.Media get REAL! Who has given Hamas and the Palestinians millions with which they could buy weapons---American taxpayers money!
  • Posted By: RobertAlthough I feel for the employees that lost their positions at Cabell Huntington Hospital, at least more nurses were hired. I recently had a relative in the cardiac unit at Kings Daughters, in Ashland, and I was told that the nursing staff had been cut back and that no overtime was being given. This seems to be a drastic cut in patient care for a facility that spends thousands advertising that they are in the top 5% of cardiac hospitals in the country. I would be willing to wager that the Cleveland Clinic has not cut hours of those giving patient care.
  • Posted By: BoydIf the state's budget is doing so well, why don't we use some of this money to help towns and cities in the state who are in trouble with their budget, or will this just become another pay raise for politicians?
  • Posted By: RobWhy does everyone have to be so into using the term "racist" and have that kind of attitude. I know what my heritage is and who my ancestors were but you want to know what I consider myself? I AM AN AMERICAN! I was born and raised in this country and that's how I feel it should be. Born here, raised here.....then by God you are an American. Not an African American, not an Asian American etc. etc. You are an AMERICAN!
  • Posted By: ChrisTo Ex-Officer: I agree with you 100% about the pay of police dept and the drug testing. I was formerly involved with the BCPD and had multiple ride alongs with the BCSO. I am probably one of their biggest critics due to having watch some of the bad side of the department for a long time. I wish that I could tell everything that I have seen officers do,which would put most of them behind bars or they'll lose their sheild, But retalliation is bad in our area. To the cops that do their job and do it with the best intentions, I proud of you and don't mean any disrespect. To the ones who I personally watch being more currupt then the "badguys" here, your day will be coming.
  • Posted By: PabloTeachers aren't the only ones underpaid. Law enforcement officers are underpaid also. And I'd like to speak about them. For example, I'm sure any parent would sacrifice their live for thier children. And several may give thier live to save their spouse. A few individuals may even do it for a close friend. But, I only know of 3 types of beings who will sacrifice thier lives for complete strangers; indeed even for people who hate them. The first would be our men and women in our armed forces. The second would be our law enforcement officers. And of course, third would be our Savior, Jesus Christ. Others are killed in the line of their employment, but not in order to save a complete stranger. Everytime a cop puts on his/her uniform, they can be a target for anyone upset about something. Even though it doesn't involve the cop personally, that very cop will give his life to save yours when a problem arises. We need to give our cops not only a wage, but a living wage and a great big THANKS.
  • Posted By: CraigIf what I am hearing is correct that Kanawha County teachers accepted a pay raise in return for submitting to drug testing, and then sued successfully so they do not have to be subject to testing, then why shouldn't we the taxpayers demand they return the raise?
  • Posted By: teresaracist lmao i am one cherokee, german, irish, german, and who knows what else TIRED of hearing of racist comments u are either GOOD OR BAD k no skin color needed just evil or NOT
  • Posted By: Ex-OfficerI agree with Robert 100% I worked in law enforcement and loved the job but try to rise a family on less than 10.00 an hour (out of that pay for your own duty gear and gun). I believe that all public safety workers should be drug tested but i also believe that they should be paid for the job that they do. Not many people understand what a public safty worker goes through. Would you put your life on the line for this kind of pay? Remember the saying that you get what you pay for. I see this in several new officers in my area. Don't get me wrong there are still very good officers in law enforcement. Something really needs to be done about the low pay for these jobs.
  • Posted By: GarlandWhat's the difference between teachers and other workers(coal mineers, bus drivers, state employees, etc.)? Teachers aren't any better are they?
  • Posted By: This is not a comment, but I would like comments on it please. What do you think of Poca High School? Racist or not?
  • Posted By: RobertWe the people, through our own self centeredness and apathy, have allowed our teachers and police officials to be some of the most underpaid people in the United States. We are trusting our childrens education and our public safety to the very people that are some of the most underpaid profesions in the U.S.. If I could change this, I would. However, I do believe that these people should be randomly drug tested. I work in the construction industry and I have no problem being drug tested. I have nothing to hide. I also believe that any person who is intrusted with the safety of others should have nothing to hide. This includes plitical officials up to and including the president.
