HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Governor Sarah Palin arrived at Tri-State airport Sunday just before noon. She got off the plane and shook some hands before boarding a bus headed to Gallipolis.

When the republican candidate for vice president got to Gallipolis, she stopped at a Wal-Mart. Governor Palin got off the bus and talked with shoppers. She even bought diapers for her infant son who made the visit with her.

Sarah Palin told voters in southeastern Sunday that she and running mate, John McCain, would bring jobs back to this economically depressed part of Appalachia.

Palin highlighted her record as mayor of a city about the size of this small one near the West Virginia border. She says Democratic rival Barack Obama doesn't understand places like this.

Go McCain!!!!!!-----Go Palin!!!!!--- You guys ROCK!!!!!----I sure don't want someone in the WhiteHouse that associates with the likes of Ayers...Oh and I wish I could get an ex-convict to buy me a house like the one Obama got......Wonder if he inhaled?

Posted by: Lynn on Oct 17, 2008 at 07:56 AM
We all need to look at their record and Obama's record speaks differently than his retoric. Like McCain said the other night he's not Bush and we shouldn't compare him to Bush. If you read his record it shows all the times he opposed Bush. I think Obama is a smooth talker with a forked tongue and if he gets in office we are doenhill from that point on.

Ok here is a tidbit for you people thinking this woman is so great and you can check the facts. She claims Obama hangs with terroist seems she forgot to mention that her husband belongs to a group that joined alliances with iran so they could speak at the UN to seek seperation from the US for Alaska the group AIP and the group claims her as one of their own this alone will deny he husband a federal job unless of course she were prez then she could try to change the rules by adding the change to a bill or vetoing the bill. Go to huffingtonpost.com.This from someone that keeps harping about a man who was a radical when Obama was 8yrs old, people who live in glass houses should not throw stones

Alfred, she's a little to close to Russia for my taste. This probably means she is a Communist since Obama's boyhood home of Indonesia automatically makes him a Muslim terrorist.

How about this. You are a racist if you don't vote for a white man. I am sick of people turning everything into a race issue or implying things that aren't there. The biggest problem I see today is that the black population perpetuates the race hatred more than the whites and that drives the whites to hate the black attitude. People who say you are racist if you don't vote for Obama are racists themselves. A racists thinks their race is the only correct race. Racists promote hatred. There are blacks who think their race is superior to the whites. It is just as wrong as whites who think they are superior. It is as wrong as Hitler who thought the Jews, the Blacks, the Hispanics, and any other race but his white German race.I could easily make the claim that you are a racist if you don't vote for McCain because then you hate whites. Instead, let's look at the policies and character to make a decision. Racists will always see things thru the racial lens. Take your lenses off, dude.

Posted by: Buckeye on Oct 15, 2008 at 05:21 PM
I did not refer to everyone that was not voting for Obama as racists. My racism charge was directed only at those who are scared of Obama. You made that extension to make your own point off topic. If you think it is an accident that McCain started asking 'Who is Barrack Obama?' and Palin uses every generalization (soccer mom, hockey mom, joe sixpack, NASCAR dad) to define who she means by "us" while following that with Obama is not like 'us', then you not looking close enough. These speeches are designed and dissected to send unconscious messages, and one really needs to look at it for what it is saying under the surface. These comments CAN be interpreted as not having racial overtones, but it is no accident at all that they can also been seen through the racial lens as well. That's what makes these comments effective and why people who don't think they're basing their decision on race really are.

Gov (VP)Palin, a real American. Unspoiled and true as the land she comes from. God Bless and support her for the good fight ahead.

Amen to "To Amy". My son was born at 7 months (31 weeks) and to think that if I simply thought he would be a "burden" to me, I could have denied him medical care, not putting him on a respirator to assist his breathing, makes me shudder at this stuff. What's next? The senior citizen who needs medical care to get better, but is retired, will be denied medical are since they will not be producing income to "spread the wealth"? Hitler and Darwin both say that if you start by not valuing life at its inception, it is easy to take that further on down the continuum. I have a difficult time with people who call themselves Christians, who say they are followers of Christ, who values life so much he died for our eternal life, yet have no problem with abortion, or voting for a man who will reverse the law on PBA and deny medical care to infants if the mother doesn't want the child. Also, the Constitution GUARANTEES each person to LIFE, and Obama wants to go against that.

Posted by: Donna on Oct 15, 2008 at 11:39 AM
The man with the plan. OBAMA!!!

Posted by: To Amy on Oct 15, 2008 at 10:31 AM
How in the world can you say you are a Christian, and defend a man who has voted three times to deny medical care to victims of unsuccessful abortions? In such cases, they attempt the late term abortion (7-9 months) and sometimes the child is not killed. When this happens, the child is left unattended and untouched until it dies. No one is ALLOWED to provide help OR comfort to this injured child. I do NOT believe in abortion but, either way, that's waaayy past abortion! However Barack voted to deny the infant ANY care because it would place undue "stress on the mother and the physician." I suspect that you are not indeed who you say you are, but if you are a Christian and Bible School teacher, shame on you! Take a closer look at the Bible before you attempt to teach it!

Posted by: To Buckeye on Oct 15, 2008 at 10:22 AM
The only "racism" that is going on is the insinuation by the Democrats(and yourself) that, "If you don't vote for Obama, you're a racist." Good try pinning that on McCain, but it was Obama and his liberal cronies in the media who injected race into this election, and are now using it as a political weapon. I don't disagree with Farrakan and Jackson and Obama because they are black. I disagree with them because the are radical freaks!

Personal Responsibility, the problem is that the banks are giving out these loans knowing full well that the person will not be able to make the payments due to their "ballooning" nature. The fault lies on both parties. Then companies invest in these real estate loan packages and we see what happens. Also, take a look at derivatives which are not currently regulated at all. There is more to the story than people taking out loans they can't afford. The entire system is a mess. Those who the bailout bill put in charge are the ones that caused the mess in the first place.

Well said, McCain All the Way!!! People in WV keep talking about change in WV, but they keep voting in the same democrats who tax us and do not provide change. Why vote for the guy (Obama) who FORCED, SUED and STRONG-ARMED companies to make loans to people who could not afford them? He is a BIG reason the mortgage crisis exists. If you want true change, why vote for Obama, who will appoint these same thieves to higher ranking positions? So, please, Obama supporters, explain to me what change is that? Also, why is it racist if I don't vote for him? I don't want a socialist, communist, Marxist as the President of MY United States. Also, McCain was forced to show he was eligible to run for office, yet Obama has not done the same thing. Thank you for showing the FACTS, McCain all the way.

ANYONE WHO SAYS ONE THING AND HIS RECORD IS DIFFERENT IS A FRAUD. ACTIONS ALWAYS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS.

George Bush has been in office for 7 1/2 years. The first six the economy was fine. A little over one year ago: 1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high; 2) Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon; 3) the unemployment rate was 4.5%. 4) the DOW JONES hit a record high--14,000 5) American's were buying new cars, taking cruises, vacations overseas, living large!. But American's wanted 'CHANGE'! So, in 2006 we voted in a Democratic Congress and yes--we got 'CHANGE' all right. In the PAST YEAR: 1) Consumer confidence has plummeted; 2) Gasoline is now over $4 a gallon!; 3) Unemployment is up to 5.5% (a 10% increase); 4) Americans have seen their home equity drop by $12 TRILLION DOLLARS and prices still dropping; 5) 2% of American homes are in foreclosure. YES, IN 2006 AMERICA VOTED FOR CHANGE.AND WE SURE GOT IT! . REMEMBER THE PRESIDENT HAS NO CONTROL OVER ANY OF THESE ISSUES, ONLY CONGRESS. AND WHAT HAS CONGRESS DONE IN THE LAST TWO YEARS? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

Hey Linda, too bad your kid can't vote huh. Also, too bad he's been brainwashed. Nice job...

Posted by: Personal Responsibility on Oct 14, 2008 at 11:23 PM
The problem with society today is that no one wants to take responsibility for their actions. Guess what, if I ask for a loan that I know I cannot repay, I am wrong and I am only asking for trouble. It is MY responsibility to make sure I can make my house payment. It is MY responsibility to not go into debt and to live on what I make. It is my responsibility to take care of my family, not your's or the government's. If I can't afford it, then I don't buy a brand new vehicle when my used vehicle works just fine, or a brand new TV for every room in the house. I see people everyday who say they have no $$ for food, yet they just spent $60 on their acrylic nails and $200 on their makeup at Macy's. I don't buy it for one minute that it is MY fault YOU can't manage your money and now you need ME to pay your mortgage so you can stay in a nicer home than I have, when I made the decision to live on what I make. I still have a decent home, but at least I am debt free.

I did the research. I have seen the FACTS. Obama is being sued by a fellow DEMOCRAT who has been active in the party for over 30 years because OBAMA is NOT A US CITIZEN. If he were, then he would produce the proper papers to settle the case once and for all. However, he is not willing to do so. He has something to hide. Is it who his real father is? Is it his true place of birth? Is it he is NOT a US citizen can not legally run for President? This position requires the utmost of integrity and he has shown me 0 integrity by the lies and cover ups. If he had nothing to hide, he would produce the papers the same way McCain did. Also, according to FEDERAL RECORDS he had to file, he did not claim his loans he supposedly had while a student at Harvard. How did he pay for it? How come Michele said they just paid them off earlier this year, when he never listed it on any of his financial records? There is also no record of him making any payments. Hmmm. These are the facts. He is a LIAR.

Does anyone else notice how so many people are "scared" of Obama? You sheep are falling for the only thing McCain/Palin have left to offer. They can't offer solutions or comfort so they remind people that Obama is 'not like you'. Therefore, he must be scary. Racism and tribalism are a part of human nature and McCain/Palin are intentionally tapping into your darkest fears. It's their only hope. Fear worked on us in 2004; let's not be played again.

To Chris on Oct 13, 2008 at 04:48 PM Who said if Obama wins that we will forget God? People like you make me sick and you don't have enough sense to vote. Listen..NO PRESIDENT WILL EVER STOP ABORTIONS! I am a Christian and a Sunday School teacher and I don't believe in abortion but I'm smart enough to know that it can't be stopped. How about you republicans start worrying about God's children who are already here suffering and dying without health care. Start worrying about the hard working middle class families who have a hard time putting food on the table and keeping a roof over their heads. Start worrying about the parents who can't afford to send their kids, our future generation, to college. Get off your Holier than Thou soap box and get some sense. McCain/Palin will be more of the same and we just can't afford to let that happen. VOTE OBAMA/BIDEN

Do we need change in America? Yes. Do we want socialism? No. Do we want communism? No. Do we want someone like Hitler, Stalin, Saddam, Quadaffi, Chavez or Castro? No. If you do, move to their country and let us TRUE AMERICANS live like AMERICANS. Why vote for someone who HATES America, HATES capitalism and HATES democracy? He hates the very things the USA had been founded upon. He isn't even a citizen of the US and he won't produce the papers to prove it. He can't even get his campaign people to agree on what hospital he was born in. The only way he could travel to Pakistan in '81 was when he used his Indonesian passport, per US and Pakistani laws at the time. He cannot have dual citizenship in Indonesia, and as of 2006 was eligible to run for president there. Call this smear, call this negative campaigning all you want. These are the FACTS and my family fought for our freedom ever since the Am. Rev. and I am sure they are turning over in their graves right now.

I want to clarify something "some one who cares!!!" said about McCain's schooling. He didn't go to a military school until the Naval Academy let him in. In high school, he attended a school called Episcopal which is located just outside Washington DC and according to its website "The comprehensive fee for the 2008-09 school year is $40,875". Even the Naval Academy is close to DC. He has lived around DC most of his long life, yet he claims that he and Palin are the outsider-maverick types. How many joe sixpacks can afford $40,085 a year for their child's schooling?

The very thought of Palin being "one heartbeat away from the Presidency" is frightening. She is not qualified and never will be! The McCain/Palin campaign has gone almost 100% negative with their 'on-the-air' ads. These people and their campaign are mudslingers and smear artist. They put out half-truths, innuendos, guilt by tenuous association, exaggerations, misinformation, disinformation and more! The fact that McCain/Palin and their campaign use these tactic tells me they deceive, obscure and distort with regard to the truth and we should not vote for them on November 4th 2008.

Hey jen, when Obama is President, maybe you'll be able to get a better job, making more money so that you can afford to take a day off when you want to do something special. Best wishes!

Posted by: Buckeye on Oct 13, 2008 at 08:29 PM
To jen: You know and everyone else knows that those calling Obama a terrorist is your way of expressing your own xenophobia based on his name not his actions. Some of McCain's actions have been a me first (not country first) and family last kind of guy who left his crippled wife from a car accident for a young, rich girl in a bar. His ACTIONS speak louder than names. Obama didn't choose his last name, but McCain sure had a choice of duty to his first family and he chose the young, rich girl he met in a Hawaiian bar instead. This is also an example of how civil the Obama campaign has been. If this situation was the other way around, you can bet that Palin would be bringing it up on every speech for the women vote.

If Obama wins we will be in a sad shape. A nation that forgets God will be turned in to hell. Who cares about money, when the hearts of a nation is in decay--why would you vote for someone who thinks its ok to abort/kill innocent babies? Guess what we tax payers even pay for it. Maybe if we would look at morals instead of money we would once again be a blessed nation.

Obama is a socialist. Obama's plans include giving income tax credits to people who don't even pay income taxes because they don't work or work only part-time. In other words, its a new welfare program. We don't need the government rewarding people for being lazy. Tax breaks should go to those who actually work and pay taxes.

I thought it was awesome that Gov. Palin took the time to stop and visit with people here in Gallia County. Out of the choices we have this election, she is the only one I feel has a real crediable appeal.

The Republicans found somebody almost as entertaining as Dubya! I hope everyone who saw her had a good laugh. Seriously...

Posted by: Steve on Oct 13, 2008 at 12:33 PM
It's hard for them to bring more jobs into this area when our Commissioners won't let any in unless it pads their pockets. Notice all the Secret Service we are paying for and she isn't even in there yet! What a spectacle.

Posted by: No McCain. No way. on Oct 13, 2008 at 12:12 PM
She's a moron.

Posted by: Rod on Oct 13, 2008 at 11:11 AM
Sara Palin is too shallow and too scary to even be considered by the American People to be just "one heartbeat away from the Presidency"!

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 13, 2008 at 10:53 AM
she is really pushing the average joe sixpack american crap way too much...most average joe's i know don't live in 450,000 dollar homes...

the fact that hollywood hates McCain/Palin is enough to show me that they are the best choice for our country. McCain/Palin has my vote

Posted by: ROY on Oct 13, 2008 at 08:29 AM
this is the worst coverage of any visit of any candidate yet why did you even bother. why doesn't palin deserve as much coverage as obama and biden and mccain got and get. you do a very poor job with the news anymore why.

Posted by: mike on Oct 13, 2008 at 08:28 AM
Why can't Palin say two sentences without slinging mud? Doesn't she understand voters are sick of it?

Posted by: some one who cares!!! on Oct 13, 2008 at 08:03 AM
i think obama would understand the poor man better then mcCain, Obamam was brought up onley by his mother, his father left them when he was 2.. and McCain. was brought up in milatairy schools. i don't think we shouldn't care what color or president is, as long as he will do something to help us all. and obama is half white? so if you are racist..... and i am not,,,, i onley want some one in there that is going to do a better job then Bush! Bush has killed us all.. look we have no jobs, people homes are being took.... while bush and his family lived like kings... we don't want another Bush in the white house, , clinton done so much for us, and there was work and everything. the united states was not in trouble, this is what you get for putting a republican in... clinton was democrat... and thats what we need again. some one who will fight for the poor. not some one that onley wants to fill his pockets up like Bush...

Posted by: april on Oct 13, 2008 at 07:33 AM
I think its great that gov Palin came to southern ohio I agree with her that obama doesnt understand this area we really need to think about who we are putting in the white house Palins values and views are awesome I think that she and sen.Mccain will be the best choice for our country at least they know what they stand for and that is our country and the people even the people in small town u.s.a

And I guess John and his wealth understands.

Posted by: Jen on Oct 12, 2008 at 11:55 PM
Go Palin.. what a real lady. This is another classy lady like Mrs. Bush, and we need her spunk in Wash. We need a real man and a real woman in the White house. We don't need Mr. and Mrs. Barrack Hussain Osama.. oh i mean Obama.. LOL. Neither do we need anymore bombings by Ayers, and more American hating sermons from Rev.. Wright.. he's all wrong and so is Obama. I remember paying the high taxes under Slick Willie to support his handouts.. I don't wish to do so again under these taxing, pork barrell spending demoncrats.

Posted by: jen on Oct 12, 2008 at 11:49 PM
I wanted to see Palin, but I had to work today. Some people work for a living, instead of looking for the demoncrats for a handout, and sell their souls for some scraps.. Obama-- Osama.. not much difference.. Osama admits to being a terrorists but Obama hids it..

  • Posted By: joeI have worked for companies all over this nation and have had to take drug tests. Why should teachers be exempt from this practice? It is now common to be randomly tested(and I have been) so what makes a teacher any different than a steel worker. I can say proudly that I passed but I have seen those who didn't. They chose to use drugs and lost their jobs I didn't.
  • Posted By: KatyAs a teacher, I have no problem being randomly drug tested...as long as you agree to drug test the parents who enter the doors of my school as well. Most teachers deal with students who are exposed to/use more drugs and alcohol than any of the teachers. If these students or parents who are using drugs (and are not drug tested) enter our schools, the safety of the teachers and students are at risk. Since children spend more time with them, let's randomly drug test PARENTS, too!!!
  • Posted By: stephenWhy the heavy emphasis ont he damage to property and life Israel is doing . Where was the media uproar for years that Hamas was rocketing Israel irespective of innocent israelis.. Hamas is actualykilling their own citizens by firing rockets from UN schools and residents. Why does UN allow Hamas to use facilities for attacking Israel, then complain when Israel responds to protect their territory and citizens. Israel targets military targets, respons to from whence rockets or gun fire comes. What would we fire at if Huntington was attacked? Why does the media not put bla,e where balame belongs, and give moral support to the aggreived. What would America do if attacked? to whom would we listen? Russia, Saudi Arabia,Iran?.Media get REAL! Who has given Hamas and the Palestinians millions with which they could buy weapons---American taxpayers money!
  • Posted By: RobertAlthough I feel for the employees that lost their positions at Cabell Huntington Hospital, at least more nurses were hired. I recently had a relative in the cardiac unit at Kings Daughters, in Ashland, and I was told that the nursing staff had been cut back and that no overtime was being given. This seems to be a drastic cut in patient care for a facility that spends thousands advertising that they are in the top 5% of cardiac hospitals in the country. I would be willing to wager that the Cleveland Clinic has not cut hours of those giving patient care.
  • Posted By: BoydIf the state's budget is doing so well, why don't we use some of this money to help towns and cities in the state who are in trouble with their budget, or will this just become another pay raise for politicians?
  • Posted By: RobWhy does everyone have to be so into using the term "racist" and have that kind of attitude. I know what my heritage is and who my ancestors were but you want to know what I consider myself? I AM AN AMERICAN! I was born and raised in this country and that's how I feel it should be. Born here, raised here.....then by God you are an American. Not an African American, not an Asian American etc. etc. You are an AMERICAN!
  • Posted By: ChrisTo Ex-Officer: I agree with you 100% about the pay of police dept and the drug testing. I was formerly involved with the BCPD and had multiple ride alongs with the BCSO. I am probably one of their biggest critics due to having watch some of the bad side of the department for a long time. I wish that I could tell everything that I have seen officers do,which would put most of them behind bars or they'll lose their sheild, But retalliation is bad in our area. To the cops that do their job and do it with the best intentions, I proud of you and don't mean any disrespect. To the ones who I personally watch being more currupt then the "badguys" here, your day will be coming.
  • Posted By: PabloTeachers aren't the only ones underpaid. Law enforcement officers are underpaid also. And I'd like to speak about them. For example, I'm sure any parent would sacrifice their live for thier children. And several may give thier live to save their spouse. A few individuals may even do it for a close friend. But, I only know of 3 types of beings who will sacrifice thier lives for complete strangers; indeed even for people who hate them. The first would be our men and women in our armed forces. The second would be our law enforcement officers. And of course, third would be our Savior, Jesus Christ. Others are killed in the line of their employment, but not in order to save a complete stranger. Everytime a cop puts on his/her uniform, they can be a target for anyone upset about something. Even though it doesn't involve the cop personally, that very cop will give his life to save yours when a problem arises. We need to give our cops not only a wage, but a living wage and a great big THANKS.
  • Posted By: CraigIf what I am hearing is correct that Kanawha County teachers accepted a pay raise in return for submitting to drug testing, and then sued successfully so they do not have to be subject to testing, then why shouldn't we the taxpayers demand they return the raise?
  • Posted By: teresaracist lmao i am one cherokee, german, irish, german, and who knows what else TIRED of hearing of racist comments u are either GOOD OR BAD k no skin color needed just evil or NOT
  • Posted By: Ex-OfficerI agree with Robert 100% I worked in law enforcement and loved the job but try to rise a family on less than 10.00 an hour (out of that pay for your own duty gear and gun). I believe that all public safety workers should be drug tested but i also believe that they should be paid for the job that they do. Not many people understand what a public safty worker goes through. Would you put your life on the line for this kind of pay? Remember the saying that you get what you pay for. I see this in several new officers in my area. Don't get me wrong there are still very good officers in law enforcement. Something really needs to be done about the low pay for these jobs.
  • Posted By: GarlandWhat's the difference between teachers and other workers(coal mineers, bus drivers, state employees, etc.)? Teachers aren't any better are they?
  • Posted By: This is not a comment, but I would like comments on it please. What do you think of Poca High School? Racist or not?
  • Posted By: RobertWe the people, through our own self centeredness and apathy, have allowed our teachers and police officials to be some of the most underpaid people in the United States. We are trusting our childrens education and our public safety to the very people that are some of the most underpaid profesions in the U.S.. If I could change this, I would. However, I do believe that these people should be randomly drug tested. I work in the construction industry and I have no problem being drug tested. I have nothing to hide. I also believe that any person who is intrusted with the safety of others should have nothing to hide. This includes plitical officials up to and including the president.
