Just up the Ohio River in Gallipolis, anglers from several states stopped by for some friendly fishing. But there was plenty at stake at the American Bass Anglers One-Day Super Tournament, and one hometown angler made some waves.
The early-morning calm and cool waters of the Ohio River quickly heated up as the competition got underway. Seventy-five anglers from several states weighed in, and looked for the catch of the day, with cash and pride on the line. And a hometown fisherman walked away with the win.
Kevin Martin of Gallipolis said the money will be well spent.
“I’ll pay a boat payment I guess,” said Martin.
But no matter who takes top prize, the city of Gallipolis came out on top.
Barry Davis says out-of-town fishermen and their families stayed all night in the area, which meant big money for local motels.
It was a good day for fishing, with everyone walking away a winner.
AEP, the city of Gallipolis, the Convention and Visitors Bureau and French Art Colony all helped make the event possible.
