LEWISBURG, W.Va. (AP) - Three close elections in Greenbrier County have been cast into uncertainty as election officials now believe some 340 votes haven't been counted.

When combined with the 167 provisional ballots cast last week, that adds up to more than 500 votes - which could be the difference in the sheriff's race, $40 million school bond levy and a referendum on gambling at The Greenbrier resort.

County Clerk B.J. Livesay says the vote canvass was halted Monday after the ballots were discovered. It will resume Wednesday morning with an official from the secretary of state's office on hand.

Last week, officials said the bond levy and the gambling referendum narrowly passed, and that Republican Jim Childers won the sheriff's race by 288 votes.
