CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Federal prosecutors have indicted four people in southern West Virginia as part of a crackdown on bankruptcy fraud.
U.S. Attorney Charles Miller is working with the U.S. Trustee's office to attack 23 counties where people may be hiding assets that could help pay debts.
Those indicted this week include a Huntington man who allegedly failed to report $100,000 in income from a 2003 land sale and a Bluefield woman accused of hiding a $60,000 workers' compensation settlement from 2006.
A Winfield woman is charged with collecting disability payments while concealing her income from a variety of jobs by using a stolen Social Security number.
Miller says bankruptcy helps people get back on their feet. But abuse undermines the process, hurting creditors and consumers.

Statue of limitation is either 7 or 10 years in the state of WV, so that person who had stuff going on back in 2003 only needs to hold it off another 2 years if it's 7 years. They need to start investigating WELFARE fraud not BANKRUPTCY FRAUD!! Let's keep helping the big companies that sends jobs overseas and uses overseas money as credit because that's all you care about WV!!!
If they can walk to the mailbox have their dealer take them to cash the check and then sit around all day and do drugs until the next check comes they can work GET EM DRUG TEST THEM AND MAKE THEM GIVE YOU RECIEPTS
It is funny how they pick and choose who they want to go after. I know someone who was hiding money and the department of justice got involved and he finally handed it over but they have pressed no charges at all. Since his discharge in November, he has went out and got a $100k loan and a new vehicle without permission from the court. The trustee has been made aware, but they all just sit on the butts and do NOTHING!!!!
