CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Marshall University will oversee a new program to create school-based dental clinics that target underserved children across rural West Virginia.
The Appalachian Regional Commission and the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation are putting $500,000 in grants toward the oral health program.
A team from Marshall will develop and manage an application and proposal process that will eventually put the clinics in distressed and at-risk counties.
Gov. Joe Manchin announced the program Thursday.
It's intended to help school-age children in rural areas who lack access to dental care.
One priority is providing sealants that prevent cavities. The program should serve about 7,500 children.

I agree with smilling mother. I thought that the kids on medicaid already got free dental care. I have to pay for my kids who are on my husband's insurance. Sure the cleanings are covered but if there is anything else wrong I have to pay. So I want to know if I can get this free service for my children to. Please don't descriminate against them because my husband has a job! I would like to know how much a year my tax dollars pay for these people that won't work to get their free services, food pantry, free clothing vouchers, welfare, medical and dental services, free school supplies, toys for tots, yes I said toys for tots, etc... would amount to in a year. I think if you add it all up they are coming out pretty well. Maybe even better than my family.
their are over thousnads of children that get medicad that their parents are to lazy to take them to the dentist or a reagular ck up so why should these god fearing people go out of their way to help? it seems to methat the parents needs to be told by the dhhr to help ther own childern or else get cut off and go to work ! I worked all of my life and took care of my 2 children I spent over 5,000.0 dollars made payments until paid in full for my sons braces. I lost a son from a heartatache over 4 years ago and i am still paying for that , so tell who needs help???
THIS IS THE BEST NEWS I'VE HEARD IN A LONG LONG TIME I HAVE TRIED TO FIND A DENTAL HEALTH DOCTOR FOR MY GRANDDAUGHTER THATS ON CARE LINK BUT NO LUCK NOT MANY DOCTORS TAKE CARELINK
